I did a test with 40.30. installed by by dgadelha zenfoneassist, had the same error. Has a fastboot the image link you are using?

Maybe you could try merging the 3 sparsechunks into a sparse image (I haven't tested it) to flash just one file:

Windows:

copy /B system.img_sparsechunk1+system.img_sparsechunk2+system.img_sparsechunk3 system.img

UNIX/Linux:

cat system.img_sparsechunk1 system.img_sparsechunk2 system.img_sparsechunk3 > system.img

Then you could try making what I did in CyanoZenMod:

• Generate a RAW image from the system (via Terminal Emulator or TWRP):

su
dd if=/dev/block/by-name/system of=/sdcard/system.ddi

(For TWRP, you may need to replace /dev/block/by-name/system with /dev/block/mmcblk0p9);

• Copy the image to your computer, and use ext2simg (Debian/Ubuntu: android-tools-fsutils, Windows: prebuilt images of ANDROID_IMG_REPACK_TOOLS by @A.S._id)

ext2simg system.ddi system.img

• Enjoy your system.img
