I loved the battery life with this,
Full screen brightness + Location (Battery Saving)+Sync + 1hr youtube + 20mins calls + chatting 3hrs = 5hrs of screen on time + 24hrs standby time (without any sony battery saving options)

I didn't used xposed, greenify etc.. COMPLETE STOCK :good:

Yeah this problem exists for everyone, developer said he is working on it, he even gave the changelog also. hope we get it soon.

The only issue I've found is that pressing the little preview of a photo or video you have taken in the Camera app doesn't open the full photo, has anybody found a workaround for this?

You need the Sony Album App for this. The Sony camera can't use a 3rd party gallery app.

No offence but this rom was intentionally "de-sonyfied". You're asking for help putting it back together, but it would make more sense to install complete stock or another alternative rom.
My suggestion is to install quickpic. I'm not a fan of Google photos either.

Because Sony's album works with brava engine and their other technologies and I'd like the gallery to open in the camera app instead of it crashing.

No offence, but QuickPic doesn't work with the Stock Sony Camera. Nor does Google photos.
