I'm hoping SOMEONE can help me with this.
Something went awry with my everyday 700 and it's as slow as ... well ... a snail - if it even loads the app I want.
Short of restoring a nano backup from December;
1. Could I format system, and reflash 039? Would that not give a clean install, but the data on the internal "sdcard" would still be there - maybe just needing re-installing some apps?
2. GApps would be gone?
3. MicroG flashable?
Workable?

TIA!

Okay, sorry to all in advance.
Feel like a total noob again!
Dug out the old tf700t, still looking brand new 😂
Wanted to use it for navigating on the boat because of the bright screen.
Super slow of course and can't get the GPS to work...
Then I found this thread and thought "well wonderful".
I rooted, unlocked and flashed all kinds of phones and tablets in the past, also this one, I have it unlocked and running omni 5.1.2
So I didn't think twice about trying to flash this nougatella...
However I feel Super dumb 😄

Trying to stick to the op list here:
Format (I guess factory reset is meant here)? Done

Downloaded
KK7.1-39 700
Opengapps
Supersu

But then install f2fs compatible recovery (eg kang), but no files to be found there)

Change to f2fs (how? )

Flash, wipe, reboot

Okay, I'm sure I'll manage, but how? From connected pc or direct on the tablet?

Could anyone write an easy quick step by step for this old (and apparently re-noob-ed) tf700t fan ?

Ps. I have read all 74 pages and am aware OP is not very responsive anymore (and probably with good reason 😌)

TIA!

Your downloaded files are on a external sd? Try also internal memory

To change filesystem, look in the advanced wipe/format option in custom recovery

Try another recovery if you still cannot see your downloaded files

If you follow the link to kang twrp, the place to download the f2fs recovery can be seen in post #2. The instructions for flashing this on the TF700 are there.

Very good instructions for flashing TWRP in this forum - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-flashing-a-custom-rom-on-the-tf700t.2688891/

Once you have the TWRP recovery installed on the tablet, you can change the file system for /data to f2fs from one of the menu options while still in the recovery.

You can install the ROM, Gapps and SuperSU from an external SD card inserted into the TF700. You select them from within the TWRP recovery.

I found that installing Gapps slowed down the tablet. So I skipped that entirely but downloaded and installed the F-Droid apk instead (google search for it) and then downloaded the AndroidAPKsfree app to get other apps. That way I get a much more responsive tablet.

Go to Twrp, it's in format section, Google twrp change data file system to find detailed instructions.

Tried installing MicroG with Magisk module:
1. Download latest Magisk Manager
2. Clean install of Nougatella #39
3. Install Magisk manager from sdcard
4. Select install Magisk from Magisk Manager. (This fails)
5. Select download Magisk zip only in Magisk Manager and then installed with TWRP OK.
6. Install Magisk module "microG installer Revived" by Nift4 - this works but no Playstore installed MicroG check said to install Phonesky (whatever that is).
7. Couldn't understand what Playstore download I should choose so just installed Aurora Store from Fdroid. This worked with anonoymous credentials! (Never has before). However, Youtube complained it wouldn't work without Google Services. :(
8. Tried installing patched Playstore and also unpatched from https://shadow53.com/android/downloads/microg/ .
TWRP exited with Error 4. (don't know what that means)
9. Downloaded Fakestore.apk from: https://github.com/microg/FakeStore/releases.
10. Repeat MicroG Self Check and all boxes now ticked.
11. Reopen Youtube and it works. Haven't tried with other Google apps.

Update: I have 2 TF700's and both keyboards have become faulty since updating [keys failing to operate]. Dock hardware issues I think as a TF300 Dock works fine when connected. Opened one Dock up and checked cables - nothing obvious though.
Are you still interested/doing anything with this?
I tried and had troubles.
I'll post if you are interested.

is there a means to force default sound output to the usb like neutron player does, or to choose that as an option?

i'd be really keen to push spotify and video / movie / streaming media to a usb dac/amp to maximise quality of the sound i get

my eyesight is old enough to tolerate the screen resolution as is, but my hearing is good enough to like the best quality sound i can make happen

Yes. Still interested. 🙂
Sorry, been busy and trying to find all my notes - having misplaced them.
I did a dirty install, wanted to get a feel for what was going to happen. I did it on the wifes' 700 and didn't want to screw it up, she'd never leave it alone.
So ...
I formatted the system partition and re-installed #39.
Booted and had nothing doing with Google, but the wife could still use it - her stuff was still there, just had to
re-asses permissions etc.
I added the Magisk apk's installed them but nothing, no root - even though all the boxes were ticked in the settings as you mentioned.
Found the flashable file, can't remember where I found it, but it's name is: com.topjohnwu.magisk_23.0-23000_minAPI21(x86_64,arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a,x86)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com, part of the site's in the name.
Still no root. Deleted all Magisk files in DATA and flashed superSU and had root.
Now for MicroG, again found a flashable file: System-MinMicroG-Standard-2.10-20210428084846-signed.zip, which when installed ticked all the boxes and SO FAR, 2 of 3 apps that need/needed access to PlayStore don't complain, Titaniam Backup and Lastpass 2 of them.
I am planning on formatting data and doing it over soon.
I do not know what the deal is with Magisk, but I did read somewhere that some ROM's do not have the hook it needs to run (don't know if that's true) - doesn't bother me, SuperSU's fine.
I realize - again - that this was dirty, but it gives me an idea of what's-what before blowing off everything.
What can I add?

    Nougat 7.1 Release
    Asus TF700T - TF201

This rom is an aosp based rom with my own additions on top of it.

The main motto of the rom being Kiss. Even though the Meerkat could give you a kiss, it stands for Keeps it Sweet and Simple too
Which means that the rom's main goal is efficiency, speed/responsiveness,
while not adding bloated features that will slow things down :)

    DOWNLOADS :

    Install Instructions:

Install a F2FS compatible TWRP Recovery (KANG TWRP recommended)

    • Backup everything !
    • Boot into the recovery

The first time or everytime you have an issue when dirty flashing (Especially when changing android versions):
[*] do a full wipe , if you have issues make sure that you format /data (format is different than wipe)
Warning: formatting will remove what is stored in your internal storage, so store the rom /gapps/supersu zips onto an external storage (microSD, SD card..) or make sure you know how to push them back through adb.
    • Change /data filesystem to f2fs

Then everytime (even when "dirty flashing") do the following steps:
    • Flash the rom
    • Flash the SuperSU zip
      [*]Flash gapps
    • Wipe cache/dalvik
    • Reboot

Note that current gapps setup wizard will crash as it is not fully compatible with android 7.1.2 (KatKiss >= 022)
unless you turn on wifi manually after the language selection in the initial setup.
(if you don't have a dock, use the extra wifi button in the navbar)

    Tips

    First Install
Make sure you do a format /data the first time you install the rom
(backup your internal storage first if you want to keep something)

Also keep in mind that after a fresh install, it might take a bit of time to get up to full speed as media scanner & google are checking/scanning and restoring stuff.

    Bluetooth audio devices
For bluetooth audio devices that have "phone audio" capability you need to uncheck the box in the device's bluetooth settings.

    System UI Tuner
A few things including the navbar buttons can be tweaked in Settings => System UI Tuner

    Hardware keyboard layouts
More languages have been added in the default asusec keyboard
Set the keyboard layout through Settings => Language & Input => Physical Keyboard (asusdec)
(to use multiple layouts , you first need to add another Language in Settings => Language & input)
You can switch between layouts using the keyboard icon that appears in the navbar.

    Global Key Override/Shorcut Mecanism
Available in Settings => Dock => Add Key Override Actions

This will allow you not only to redefine function keys assignment, and other special keys actions,
but you'll also be able to assign global macro actions / app launch to any key + Meta key combination (shift Left or Right , ctrl..)

You can also add multiple actions to one key combination, simply click again on the "+" button for the same key combination.
For example if you want to assign to one key combination a list of action to run before going to bed for example, like: turn wifi off, Bluetooth off, mute sound, and turn screen off, you can do that :)
Note that starting multiple applications with one key is kinda a miss and hit for the moment due to some mecanism in android that seems to prevent applications to start too close to each others.

    Storage Encryption
Encryption is not supported on our devices

    Camera
Video recording is limited to 720p max

    Storage (fstrim) and Database optimization:
Fstrim is native since 4.3 and will happen in the background if your tablet is idle / sleeping and that your battery is > 70%
There is also a script to run it manually in the rom: /etc/kat/optimizestorage

    To optimize the Database: /etc/kat/optimizedb

To run both, open a terminal and run:
    su
    /etc/kat/optimize
