Haven't had that happen yet, but I noticed that the phone crashes & restarts when I frequently loose signal like when I'm on the train to work (I live in Belgium, very very poor cel coverage in this place).

Substratum theme engine, next step – N-Navbar .
Provides all permissions.
Choose N-Navbar, select the desired layer, be sure to scroll down below and click on the red icon (roller). Restart the device and enjoy

I am not sure to understand this, but if you want to remove root you have to flash again your rom previes all wipe, if you want to delete some system app you can just deactivate them from settings->app or you need some app such as titanium backup or similar for delete the apk from system partition, sure you need root to let titanium backup work
