After reading yesterday half of this thread and the other half today, I have some more comments to make and some more replies to give.
Please, be prepared to read a huge post !
I have to say that I use latest BL (XXSFQE2) from latest Sri Lanka's firmware and latest CP (XXUFNG1) from latest Greece's firmware with stock (crDroid v3.8.8) kernel.
1) The shock of no unread messages notification for ROM's launcher is huge.
1. Use nova launcher with Tesla unread(Google it if you want more details)
As I wrote here:
1) Lawn chair launcher didn't work for me regarding notifications.
Maybe I have to put Nova launcher.
But I really think that developers could try a workaround regarding that functionality, as it is very useful I think.
I used Nova launcher with Tesla Unread, but with one little detail.
It was a built-in ROM's feature.
I tried downloading the Google Play version of Nova launcher and it didn't give me the option to use Tesla Unread for the unread messages.
I will provide the mentioned ROM, if the developer is so kind to put it inside his ROM.
2) Bluetooth v3.0 headset Plantronics with A2DP and both headset and handsfree profiles, is invisible for this ROM.
@transi1
I can send you the link to download the custom stock based ROM with the Bluetooth stack inside which is capable of recognizing my Bluetooth headset/ hands-free.
3) No built-in phone call recording (commonly present in stock based custom ROMs)
3. It's not available for most AOSP/lineage based ROMs because you can always use third party recorders.
OK, thanks.
4) The multi-app or split-screen feature of Nougat and this ROM is vastly inferior to even 4.1.1 Samsung proprietary multi-app feature.
4. That's how AOSP/lineage etc based ROMs are.
OK, thanks.
5) Smart gestures like flip phone = mute during phone call or easy screenshot are obviously missing.
BTW, which is the easiest way to take a screenshot with this ROM ?
5. Vol down+power button. There's a notification bar shortcut as well.
Thank you, it works.
6) The ROM is missing a loudspeaker patch for louder speakerphone.
6. First of all use ainur sauron soundmod to improve sound quality. Secondly, use a root explorer and go to system/etc/sound/to3g and edit the volumes(this can be done without the sound mod as well. Sound mod is only for improving sound quality)
After reading the thread I found these instructions:
Open the root folder.
Then \system\etc\sound
In this folder there is only one file.
At me it is called "t03g", but it can have a different name.
Open it as text file with a TextEditor.
Find the line <device name="speaker">
Find the lines below this and make 2 changes.
Change in the line "AIF1 Boost Volume" val= "1" or "2" (by default = "0")
Change in the line "Speaker Volume" val = "63" (by default = "57" or "59")
Don't try a greater value than this.
Save changes.
Reboot the device.
Same for headset, but with lower value like "60" or "61"
Regarding sound quality I read about Sauron+JamesDSP mod and viper4android from here
http://downloadmirror.co/2zYA/ViPER4Android_2.5.0.5_guitardedhero.zip which is probably the best.
I'll try them.
7) The WiFi speed is a little strange.
7. Not sure, it can occur probably because Crdroid's default TCP congestion algorithm is cubic. Stock probably uses Westwood as default. You can use Westwood and check out.
Yes, I read that here and downloaded Kernel Adiutor in order to change it to Westwood.
I think it's slightly faster.
But I see on every boot a Kernel Adiutor notification regarding that applied change in kernel.
Is there a way to avoid that notification or make the change permanent ? (save it to kernel ? )
8) The functionality of this ROM changes in a lot of aspects depending on the gapps package installed.
8. Can you please describe bit more like what type of functionality changes ? It's not clear enough.
For example, the keyboards are different and I can't choose the simplified keyboard version of mini package using aroma package.
The keyboard of aroma package is too complicated.
Also the spelling is different, but this time aroma package is better.
9) After charging battery at 100% I have a rapid consumption of around 10% in just 10 minutes with black screen and no open app!
9. Do you have latest modem and BL ? Latest modem is bit more battery friendly than previous ones. You should wait a few charge cycles to take decision about battery life. And most importantly, this ROM or any nougat rom based on AOSP/lineage doesn't have battery life like stock or kk roms
Yes, both BL and CP are latest as I wrote in the beginning of this post.
I noticed today that after leaving the battery to 44% to go to sleep, when I woke up the battery left was 44% (!) without closing any background task, only running apps.
I could call that the 8th wonder of the world, I have never seen anything like that before in any previous ROM - not even stock.
But again, after full charging the battery to 100%, it lost the first 10% in a very rapid way without doing anything.
After that loss, the battery behaves very well.
I have no explanation.
10) Does the battery indicator say the truth that is fully charged when it shows 100% or do I have to leave it charging for more time ?
10. It should. If you are not sure you cab try clearing battery stats and reboot
You can try deleting the batterystats.bin file to calibrate battery related assumption.
What is the path of batterystats.bin file ?
When is the best time to delete this file, when battery is 0% or 100% or a different value ?
Some replies to various questions asked here:
When phone receives incoming call in sleep mode, it starts ringing and vibrating but dialer interface is displayed after 10 seconds or even more which makes accepting calls very uncomfortable. Does anybody have such issue also?
Hello friends,
When ever call comes in it will show only blank screen & took more than 10 seconds to show the caller id.
Is this rom has the same problem?
No, this is in my opinion the best Note 2 ROM.
I have to disagree with MartinX3 and say to jekhor and rushikeshdd28 that the dialer interface is very slow due to the built-in Caller ID functionality.
For me, it was a very pleasant surprise using a built-in Caller ID because I don't remember any of my previous ROMs having that feature.
And it actually works here in Greece.
But unfortunately it has that side-effect of a very slow dialer screen.
Also, I always use a free Caller ID app from Google Play for my country.
If you disable the built-in Caller ID, your dialer will be a lot faster when receiving calls.
