No Sim Card

Hi, I flashed this rom to my Virgin Mobile SPH-L710 with no problems except I am getting an error that I have no SIM card, even though this model of phone doesn't have a SIM Card slot. And am therefor unable to connect to the Virgin Mobile network. I've tried to add the APN for Virgin Mobile but it says settings are not available for this user.

I was under the assumption that my model is a d2spr, but do I have the wrong assumption? Is this not the rom that I need? Is there anything I can do to bypass the no sim card? Everything else seems to run fine except for that.
Thanks

It is the right rom. You need the virgin mobile apn fix zip. I think I have it. I'll post it in a minute.

I'll upload it in my next post.
The s3 does have a sim card. It's just not removable. The no sim error was something that was fixed when lineage was actively being developed for D2Spr. So it may have returned, and will not be fixed. It's usually just a lockscreen notification and can be disabled.
The apn fix should work, just flash the zip. But if you don't get lte within a minute or two, you may have to wipe /system and flash rom, gapps, and apn fix at once. No need to wipe data so all your apps and data will remain. Just a heads up.

Hey, thanks a lot. I actually remember having to flash the same fix to my Moto e years ago, totally forgot about it though.
It didn't work initially, even after wiping and reflashing the rom, gapps and fix all at once. So I ended up flashing the first release of the unofficial rom instead of the latest one and it's working now.

Will probably flash the updates if I feel the need to eventually.

Thanks again though!

Sprint d2spr no APN

I have a sprint galaxy s3 d2spr; I don't have any cellular network and my phone says no sim card after flashing to the 5/31/18 nightly in the thread.

I upgraded my recovery to the latest TWRP, did hard reset, deleted system, cache, dalvik. I then flashed the rom followed by gapps. Everything went smoothly however I don't have any cellular service. I don't have any APNs listed when I look in the settings. I tried to add manually but the settings won't save.

I saw there was an apn fix for boost mobile. Will this work for sprint's network or is there another fix out there I could use? I tried reading through the whole thread but couldn't find any solution, apologize if I missed it.

Appreciate your help and taking the time to read my post.

Hey, I was the one who had the no sim problem on boost mobile. I can't comment much about if the boost mobile apn fix will work with sprint, but I can say that my own no sim card issue wasn't resolved until I wiped and flashed the original 4-10-18 rom. Although I was originally flashing the 5-20-18 rom.

If you haven't setup your phone much yet might not be a bad idea to see if that fixes your no sim error as well. You could always try dirty flashing updates after that as you see necessary though I haven't had much issues with the first release other than the occasional reboot. Though that's just from my own personal usage experiences.

Either way I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I am will reply given time. Just something to consider until then

Right on! That did the trick. This is great. Tons of respect all around for helping bring this phone back to life!

So finally got this working properly on a Virgin Mobile S3. Im sure it was all just user-related issues lol..

I initially flashed this to the phone and used wifi to get a bunch of apps and such setup. Then the next day I went on the VM website and swapped my service to it, but could not get cell service to actually work. After fighting with it for hours I ended up flashing a stock rom, swapped my service to it again, and had no service till I ran the profile update. Then after many struggling hours I was finally able to get this on the phone with working service at about 4am lol (using the 4-18-18 rooted one, though I could not get root working and no matter what I tried I couldnt get SuperSU to work etc, ended up getting root working by flashing phh's superuser and running that app instead of supersu)

Now my question is, what do you people use for voicemail with this? I was pretty accustomed to the virgin mobile voicemail app after using it on my old phone for probably like 6-7 years lol. I tried to put the virgin mobile vm app on this (tried both a downloaded APK as well as an apk backup from my old phone) and I get pretty bad graphical glitches that make the interface pretty much unusable, not to mention when I get a voice mail it would just tell me it couldnt download it and I have to call my number and access it that way.

Another wierd thing (at least going by my limited experience) is that whenever i get a voice mail I get 2 text messages from '9016' that contain text along the lines of //ANDROID:MWI Notif turnOn mdn: MYNUMBERHERE followed by a series of letters and numbers etc and another one that is very similar but starts with //ANDROID:Message from CALLINGNUMBERHERE etc etc..

Is there anything I can do to make voice mail similar to what I was getting with my previous phone? (status bar notification, then in the app the voice mails were downloaded and could be played back with ease etc).. Or am I stuck with having to deal with these jibberish text messages as a form of 'notification' and then having to manually call myself to check my voicemail the old fashioned way?

*edit*

ok i think i found a version of it that appears to be working (T.6.0.0.48) ...no graphical glitches and it downloaded some voice mails I left myself earlier in the day. Im still getting those text messages though.. but I guess I *could* just deal with them and ignore them since I don't really get all that many voice mails. I'm going to mess around with a few more things but its a real pain because I have to go over my parents house and use their landline while theyre at work so I can call myself lol

*edit 2*

it seems after a few reboots those text messages are no longer coming through, just the notifications from the virgin mobile voicemail app :D

****

but overall Im quite pleased with this... then again at this point anything is a huge upgrade over my Virgin Mobile HTC Evo V running android 4.0.3 flashed with Harmonia 3.17 lol (dont get me wrong, Ive loved my htc and harmonia).. Its nice to actually be able to install apps and not get errors about the outdated android version! And who can complain about having more then 200mb of free space haha thanks for this!

You can block texts from that number. Easy peasy. NO more text notifications. Calling your number is actually the official way of checking voicemail, lol. Visual voicemail is a perk. That's how it's been done since before smartphones. But I see you found the one that works.
You could have saved yourself some time by activating the phone on stock first, since you can't update prl and profile on LineageOS.

For visual voicemail you can also copy the APK from stock (the actual system app version) and the updated one in data/app. Then place the system one in system/app and set permissions, then install the update like normal. Well that worked for me. But it doesn't matter since you found one that works. You actually have to use Sprint vvm, as I'm sure you found.

Yeah I figured worst case scenario I could just block those texts if they had continued. And im much too lazy to deal with the regular way of checking voice mail now days lol.

And I realized that about activating on stock first, didnt even think of it when I started though. Plus I wanted to start messing with the phone and getting some apps and settings configured while at the same time I couldnt risk having an issue swapping the service over till I was done with work for the week. But once I actually got it all fixed and working a simple flash of my already configured backup put everything back to how I had it setup prior to the issues I ran into when swapping the service. Im sure I could have done more reading & research on things first lol, all my previous phone-related experience with this stuff is with my htc evo and I could still do profile and prl updates in harmonia so it didnt even cross my mind that it wouldnt be possible after flashing lineage.

I think the initial issue I was having with the voice mail app was most likely that they were just old versions that were from much older versions of android. I had tried several VM and sprint versions initially before I managed to find that T.6.0.0.48 version. But really, outside of issues caused by my own actions, this was super simple to get up and running. If my memory is anywhere near accurate (unlikely though) I feel like things were much more tedious on my htc then on this samsung. This just seemed so much more simple (again, aside from user mistakes)

Then again it seems like things have come a long way even from when I did my htc evo, i mean just the way TWRP is now versus when I did the evo (I have twrp 1.1.1 on that phone) was comparable to the first time i built a pc that had a UEFI bios lol.. mind blown haha

...and thanks for the input though, Ive got another virgin mobile S3 making its way into my possession so if for some reason I do anything with that, I'll know what *not* to do the next time around haha

That phone was very simple to work with. I had one, and I got my wife one too. I know what you mean about modding it before activating it so as not to bork your main device. Used to be able to activate on a custom rom. Not sure when it changed (likely rom changes).
We used our vm s3's for a long time and loved them. That aging dual core processor started to show it's "aging". I really wanted a quad core.
Life proof cases for that phone are pretty cheap on Amazon. You can also get a wireless charging adapter (just a little pad that goes in with the battery) and a charging pad. The S3 is capable of wireless charging. I still have a Mophie juice pack I never got to use.
Sorry for the OT, just remembering a little. Feeling nostalgic. Lol

Actually, madbat99, I can't recall how many times you've helped me prolong the life of my VM S3! Talking about nostalgic, you've must've guided me through so many snafus!

I would've held on longer if LineageOS was still churning out d2spr nightlies.

But yeah, it definitely shows its age. Especially, nowadays.
As of now, the S3 is still chugging along as my offline workout media player, paired with the gym's shaky Wi-Fi and Bluetooth headphones.

Thanks for the help and memories, dude!

I'm downloading now so that I can play with it on my FreedomPop on Sprint network SIII one of the next few nights...does anyone know of a way I can backup my APN settings now so I can restore them after flashing? Is there a known APN fix for FreedomPop? I'm also going to hunt for the latter personally, of course, as well as backing up the FreedomPop exclusive APKs

I am trying to update these ROMs today I've started on the d2att variant already this morning. I have to pull a few hours at work but after that the d2att should be done the d2spr d2tmo d2refreshspr will follow later on today and tonight. I have been busy, still am. but I will try to update these roms today. Thanks for being patient.
