Hello every one,

i need your help here, because it gets a bit confusing for me.
I unlocked the bootloader and now i am not sure what is the next step.
How do i install a custom recovery on this device? Is it enough to just flash the boot.img included in this rom (inbuild recovery) or are there other steps to do?
I searched the forum, but i couldn´t find enough evidence to be sure enough to do it.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Solved the Problem:
1. I installed twrp_3.1.1-0 through fastboot (fastboot flash boot xxx.img)
2. booted in twrp (Power + Vol_Up)
3. followed the steps in OP

I was on 10.7.A.0.228 before and just unlocked bootloader and flashed twrp afterwards.

Hi, what is the firmware version in which you unlocked the bootloader?

This ROM is working so far, good
Although I do not make full use, but stuff like Earphones(Does not work in Resurrection Remix which is from previous Linage build), Mic, earpiece and speaker works with calling whatsapp and messenger calls too, gps, sound mods(Arise, dolby with permissive SEL), SU, app2sd,

I flashed Aroma and replaced default apps like dialer, launcher, calander, calc, phone, files, keyboard, and removed those live wallpapers, everything went smooth, Rom is Good,

This rom also has few noticeable extra features in security, functions, and buttons

But I miss the quick unlock when pin is right, and also I do wish that this rom has functional features like RR has, like Network traffic indicator, speed, Prevent Accidental Wakeup,

also, it's been long time battery saver feature is same old since CM 12, data saver orange border, and min brightness, can you add battery saving profiles such that we do not need to use kernel audit, also TCP congestion :3 few feature request

Everything works fine (did a clean install, was on unofficial previously)!

Noticed some improvements since the unofficial build:
- Blur background setting works (in settings - security - device security).
- Vibrate on tap was really weird, kinda double vibrating, now it's OK.

Thanks!

bricked

Hi,

I was using 4.4.4 official (C6503_10.5.1.A.0.292_Customized_NCB), rooted with the bootloader unlocked (dual recovery) and decided to upgrade, after backing up.

In TWRP, I cleaned the dalvik cache, the cache and data partitions but did not install the rom's kernel. Then I flashed the rom zip, and gapps pico (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20171002.zip). After rebooting, I don't even see the boot animation, only a blinking red light.

I've only been able to see the device in flash mode under flashtool, but I'm not sure what should I do now. Help will be much appreciated.

Unbricked. Used flashtool to install a stock 4.4.4 firmware. Went through the process of rooting, installing the recovery and also unlocked the bootloader, which I think it was my fault (the bootloader was unlockable, not unlocked). I ended up flashing the official nightly build and seems to be working ok.

I have switched to the official 011017 LineageOS from unofficial recently and it appears I might have some trouble in regards to my TWRP 3.0.2 recovery not being able to see the internal memory or complete OTA updates.
It goes so far as to me not even knowing which recovery I am currently using, whether I flashed a FOTA recovery or its the inbuilt one.

What would happen if I flashed the boot.img when using a FOTA recovery? Can I detect what kind of recovery I am using?
What recovery is the ROM using when you don't have a FOTA recovery?
Trying to get to a known-safe state here so I can take further action.

It's the latest TWRP 3.1.1.0 IIRC.
Guess I have a FOTA-Setup then since my device with ROM (14.1-20171001-nightly-odin) gives me a TWRP 3.0.2 and seems to have some trouble accessing storage.
I guess I should flash the boot.img from the zip then or do I have to do something else to remove the FOTA Recovery setup?

I think flashing the boot.img (and then booting into the built-in recovery with volume up during boot) should be sufficient but I can't tell for sure as I only have the built-in recovery.

How does the IR Blaster function with these builds? Has any work gone in to use the IR with another app like Anymote?

Sorry, I just realized I had already posted this question.

According to the official LineageOS Install guide for odin, when you push volume down during boot you get the inbuilt recovery and volume up boots a FOTA recovery, if you have one.
Volume up boots the aforementioned TWRP 3.0.2, therefore FOTA. Curiously, volume down (most likely the inbuilt one) gives me a weird "Android Recovery" with a simple non-touch UI.
What does your not-messed-with Xperia ZL give you?

Side tangent:
The install guide itself seems to be at odds with how Sony phones work. It tells you to flash the TWRP with fastboot and target "recovery" like a regular one. But that should not work with Sony's recovery-in-boot setup.
If you follow the guide top to bottom, the device still has the stock ROM running, therefore no FOTA-Recovery setup for fastboot to maybe detect and use.
I think the guide does not work on a stock-ROM Xperia ZL.

Volume up boots the latest TWRP, volume down boots the same "Android Recovery" you mentioned. I'm kinda confused which one is FOTA now...
