On MDL we had to go back to MDC and do the OTA to get the modem. After checking Noobnl's post I see that it doesn't look like it includes the kernel. So you here is what I would do. Make a backup. Odin noobnl's tar. Install custom recovery. Flash the stock MF9 kernel. Install the MF9 rom of your choice. Restore Data only.
Last question. Where can we get the mf9 stock kernel?

Thanks for all of do. .:D

Cross posting from another site, hoping for a response. On stock rooted MDL at the moment.

Curious, since this is the first phone I've stayed stock + root on. Usually, I flash a ROM With a kernel day one. so. just asking.

I want all the features of the new update. should flashing the deodexed + NO data wipe be enough in TWRP, or would I have to flash the new kernel as well? Will the original flash wipe my recovery and root or just a new kernel if I have to flash it?

If I have to flash the kernel for all the new features and it wipes recovery + root, flashing Chainfire's root in Odin and using GooManager to flash TWRP again should work fine, yes?

Just double checking. First phone I stayed stock on, so some of this is a bit different it seems

I was stock rooted, and after installing the Odex no wipe, the device will not recognize the sd (Sandisk 64) card (auto unmounts on bootup). Is this a kernel issue, or should I use the wipe option maybe?

Probably the kernel. But I would update all of the firmware to be safe.

Not sure what you mean, excuse my stupidity. If I am on stock rom w/ root, wouldn't this be the only way to update the firmware? I haven't installed any roms on this device yet, so I should have the stock kernel.

You only said you installed the Odexed no data wipe. That only installs the system partition and does not include any of the firmware. To get the firmware you will want to follow the steps posted several posts back. Odin the Firmware file from noobnl. Install the stock kernel, located in the OP, from custom recovery. You should be fixed after that.

My wifi does not work ..software and baseband version still say MDL.. but I have move to sd and everything else
I ran into this problem when I went from mdc to MDL.. And this is going to let me to this question for everyone which link is the mf9 modem and firmware? Back to the question I quoted I had to unroot after I flashed back to a stock MDC ROM and then do a update to get a MDL modem and then flash a stock prerooted MDL ROM and my WiFi wouldn't work still so I then flashed a custom kernal made for that modem and my WiFi worked..

Going to ask one more time, real quick.

I am on stock everything + root with a TWRP recovery. How should I go about installing this?

Can I just flash the odexed + data wipe and restore data, or would the odexed + no wipe work fine? Do I need to do the thing noobnl uploaded or flash the stock MF9 kernel?

Would like to do this tonight.

It depends on your use of your phone.. Deodexed if you are like me and plan on fully customizing your phone/ROM as deodoxed is made for the mods and its a Lil slower than odexed.. And so odexed is pretty much the complete opposite that sums it up.. And yes which ever you decide you would just make a backup of your current ROM and then do a factory reset a few times and then flash even if you are flashing a ROM that does the wiping for you.. Anyone correct me if
I'm wrong on any of this..

Excellent, restored, installed the firmware, then installed the odexed rom from the OP and it worked perfectly. Didn't need to install the kernel...thanks!

Yes I did ..
Interesting. I just finished downloading the rom, kernel, and firmware, and I'm about to flash it all now, so I'll see shortly if wifi is working correctly for me. Since your baseband still says MDL, I'd assume that when you flashed the firmware it didn't take for some reason. I'd try flashing the firmware and kernel again and verify that it says MF9 after flashing.

Does some version of 3Minit Framework MOD work on MF9? It looks like you have the deodexed rooted ROM plus the 4-in-1 reboot menu and hotspot MODs ready. That's most of what I need/want. The last piece is 3Minit, which I've recently been enjoying on MDL. If 3Minit works, please let me know which version I need to install. Thanks!
