Reverted to stock ROM with Sony's own Flash Tool, stuck on TWRP, adjusted updater-script and attempted to install the latest nightly.
Now it works like a charm so thanks for your hard work.

The new build has been released for today.

-the adaptive brightness issue is still present
-stepping is still in effect for the brightness slider
-performance seems better, appears to be noticeably less lag when swiping between menus
-new boot animation
-new cm12 themed menus on first boot, although you cannot create a cyanogenmod account through the menus at the moment
-unsure if the speaker issue is still present when making calls as I did not have time to test

I noticed some depreciation in call quality in earlier builds. Hopefully this will be fixed in this or the next few builds.

I hope this small change log is helpful to other users waiting to flash.

I'm downloading the 23rd January nightly. I'll get back to you when I test it out. :) Looks like a substantial update.
Its strange, I didn't have to change anything! I flashed TWRP and then flashed CM12 nightlies!
Which version of TWRP are you using? My TWRP 2.8.1.0 still says that I am on leo and doesn't flash until I change the updater script. Please link me to the recovery you are using so that I can try the same. Thank you.

Hi,
Can someone in the know confirm that this works on a D6653, and if so, what to do to get the updater working? If it doesn't work on the D6653, this should be made clear in the OP.

Thanks
Matt

Hello,

I own a D6653. In order to flash this rom to my device, I first had to extract the boot.img from the rom's .zip and manually flash it using fastboot.

Using another recovery such as CWM will make you unable to flash this rom, and will probably result in your phone bootlooping.

To answer your other question, I was able to use the built-in Cyanogenmod updater to apply the 1-21, 1-22, and 1-23 updates, but had to manually download and flash the 1-24 update. I am not sure why it did not automatically pull the .zip for me, but honestly it is a trivial amount of extra work.

Thanks for clarifying. Very helpful.

Any chance you could give a step by step for flashing?

Thanks

You would do it the same way as any other recovery, such as CWM.

Download the latest nightly build and open the .zip. You will find the boot.img there. I renamed mine cm12.img to avoid mixing it up with my other boot.img files.

Extract the boot.img to the location of your adb files, usually the platform-tools folder located in your SDK.

Shift+right click and click "open a command window here", then type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" where boot.img is whatever you renamed your boot.img file from the nightly archive.

type "fastboot reboot" to reboot your phone. From there you can choose the "apply update" option to install the newest nightly build, along with gapps if you prefer. It is usually helpful to do a system wipe before you do this.

Keep in mind that for some reason the backlight is not functioning on the latest Cyanogenmod recovery builds, so you will need to hold your phone in a location with good, low lightning in order to see the menu options.

When/if you download new nightly builds via the updates menu found in settings -> about phone, you will install them the same way you install the nightly build through recovery. The only difference is that you will not need to wipe your phone to do this; simply reboot into recovery, go into "apply update" and flash it from there.

Hope this helps.
