Base camera is part of the ROM, but low light settings, Nexus 4 always was really horrible with it. But a black image with flash ? That one never occurred to me. I just did a test, in a dark room, and it works just fine, with both base camera and Google Camera
it doesn't happen all the time to me either. I managed to find an older version of the google camera app V2.4.024 that doesn't have the problem. I am okay for now. Thanks.

Good to know, and thanks for sharing the version number.
Seems a few bugs slipped in the latest camera update, let's hope it'll receive some update soon.

The bug you found is Gapps related, you might want to contact Banks team to see with them, officially, OmniROM doesn't offer support for Gapps, we only tend to recommend Banks because it has been proven that it's working well without being bloated. But then, it's nothing official on that matter. Any device maintainer is actually free to do the recommendations he wants towards that device.

Maybe Ubermallow uses a different icon for Launcher3 (customization), and from what you're saying, they apparently ship velvet.apk with the ROM.
OmniROM is AOSP based, and we don't ship any proprietary/closed source app, Google Now Launcher is a proprietary Launcher made by Google.
I don't know why Banks don't shipp Google Now Launcher with velvet.apk, but OmniROM does not ship it.
Afaik, the only proprietary piece of software you can find in OmniROM for Nexus 4 are the drivers and libraries given by Google.
That's also one of the reason why Supersu isn't shipped with OmniROM, because the code is not open source.

I don't want to sound harsh here, but if you did read through the thread, and I think I said many times that Google Now launcher was not included with Banks gapps and needed to be installed separately.
I wish I could do more for all of you when flashing gapps, provide a bulletproof package, but I unfortunately can't do that, lack of free time, and user support would be way to important compared to what I can actually provide. Building OmniROM is still a hobby, time that I take on my free time, and no one at Omni is paid to do the job, we all do that out of passion for the OS and for the device we maintain.
I myself keep on providing at least a build per week until nightlies start, but I can only do this when I go home after work, and I still have a family I need to spend time with ;)
That's why sometimes, I might omit to repeat things I already said in the thread, hoping users will eventually find their way to the answer they're looking for :)

If you have any question regarding the ROM itself, feel free to ask.
Hope you have fun with OmniROM !
You're right, you did mention several times in the thread that Google Now Launcher isn't included in Banks... I don't know how I missed that I usually search for stuff before I ask questions. Sorry about that, I wasted your time. :(

No worries, and no harm either :)
I perfectly understand the situation, since I'm tied to the same problem.
I really like Google Now Launcher, Gapps banks are really clean, but they don't include the needed apk. Actually, since the problem with pa gapps, I haven't been able to truly find a long term solution. It seems Banks now let you generate your own gapps though. For my personal usage, i like a micro package with the most basics option, and then install only what I need through the play store.
Been a while I didn't wipe though, guess I'll have to find a solution for when nightlies start ( yet no word on those, as soon as I know more, be assured i'll keep all of you informed).

Thing is my last wipe was a while ago, and didn't test newest version of packages, I might need to remove Gapps recommendation on main thread until I have some time to try a wipe and gapps install. Consider that recommendation, not as invalid, but slightly outdated ;)

I seem to be experiencing some troubles with the latest Rom.
Clean flash, Banks gapps, no custom kernel, root.

Wifi seems to be permanently turned on, switching it off does nothing.
The battery stats show WiFi as the biggest battery drainer and the usage statistics show it being on (the timer is running all the time) even when explicitly turning it off.

Anyone experience something similar, or is it only me?
If the latter, any idea why?

Did you activate location through wifi ?
Sounds really odd, you could try wiping again, and test wifi. If that works, means it's an app or a widget you installed is messing things up.

Location was completely off on my phone and always is.
The only thing I installed is a regional news app, that's been working fine for ages, so my phone's pretty much vanilla.

I will do another wipe later though.
By the way, I really think it would be helpful to add a note to the OP concerning the requirement for systemless root.
My rom-flashing cycles have gotten longer, so I didn't even know there was a new method.
Took me about an hour of bootlooping-flash-repeat until I figured it out. :D

Also a picture for the sake of illustration.

Oh, what I see in your screen, is Wifi is actually not active, those stats are totally unreliable, it says wifi is active, but it's not, if it was, Wifi icon would be up in your status bar, and it's not. You're not the first one complaining about stats, but afaik, Nexus 4 SOC doesn't support those new Android 6 stats, hardware limitation, that's why you can't use these tools to monitor. What is relevant is whether Wifi icon in status bar is active or not, on your screenshot, it's actually not, and you're on 3G network as far as I can tell.
While there has been efforts on some kernel to implement software support for those stats, OmniROM's kernel remain AOSP, that's why none of those got included.

Just to be sure, disable keep wifi during sleep in wifi advanced options.

What's that orange color you have ? Since OmniROM doesn't support theming, is that Xposed framework ? That wouldn't help wifi stats, and OmniROM offers zero support on devices using Xposed, mostly because a very few of us are using it, and it's partly device dependent, impossible to track and debug.

Hey, thanks for the long answer!
While I understand your explanation about the stats, 50% battery drain because of WiFi is still something new to me on that device, and I'm guessing this basic battery stats implementation has remained at least somewhat reliable. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course!
Like I said I'm not even accusing you of anything, I was just wondering what might be wrong.
I myself hate people coming into threads with insane problems not related to the Roms at all, so I try not to be one of them.

The Orange is from the aosp battery saver - that's what battery drain get's you! :D

Long story short though:
Another clean flash and WiFi seems to be behaving normally now.
What gives!

Thanks again!

Well, you're partly right on the battery stats, except they need around 3 days to be reliable from my own experience.
Good to know that another clean flash seems to have done the job, a little odd it did behave wrongly, might be because of some remaining data on /sdcard
Thank you for your understanding, not that often you get to give support to people that can understand the behind the scene thing :)

As I stated in a previous post, nightlies are about to start, this means one thing:
All those who keep following this rom MUST do a BACKUP of EVERYTHING before flashing nightlies.
When I mean everything, it includes. phone calls logs, sms/text, contacts ( if you don't sync with google), apps, ringtones, images, all your media.
The reason why is very simple. When OmniROM is build by yourself or by me, it's not signed, and you can indeed check the HOMEBUILD status of the ROM. When it's a nightly, it gets the status nightly, and is signed. Thing is the signature is checked at boot time, if the rom is not signed, it will NOT BOOT at all.
Meaning a wipe:
-/data
-/system
-cache and dalvik
is NEEDED to be able to flash nightlies.

I will update the main thread in consequence when nightlies are ready to download, but since a lot of you are actually very busy (we all have a life right ;) ), I hope warning you ahead of it might give you enough time to do a proper backup, and avoid a disaster with your data.
An updated version of TWRP will be published in the meantime to support Omni 6 (not that it doesn't work right now, but updating it is a good idea, lots of changes in the incoming version, and a lot of them are very nice ;) )

Have fun with your backups !

Will we be able to root and use custom kernel?

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Yes you will and you actually already can, using the system less root supersu. Custom kernel, as long as it's intended to use on AOSP and not CM, but downside is we offer no support on those.

Quick update, due to a server update, Nexus 4 wasn't included in the first batch of nightlies. I did ask core team to add Nexus 4 to the nightlies, with a bit of luck, first Omni 6 for Nexus 4 should land tomorrow :)

With Nightlies starting, I will stop publishing my own builds, and this thread will switch to official status.
I really want to thank all of those who followed this thread from the beginning, giving really important feedback that helped me getting Nexus 4 nightlies ready.
I will need a bit of time to come together with a valid recommendation for gapps, as I don't have much free time this week to backup and switch to nightlies myself, but rest assured I'm doing my best to switch ASAP and be able to give you support :)

Have fun with OmniROM !

Hi folks, unfortunately, I have to ask you to wait a bit more, not that it please me, but the person in charge of nightlies server is overbooked, and only him can trigger the switch for mako. Basically needs to wait he get the message and find the time to do it. I sincerely apologize for that non needed delay. Believe it or not, I'm not really happy either about this delay, I'll provide you an up to date build by Wednesday.

Hey, u say it's not as bloated as CM. Do you think it'll provide a better screen-on-time than CM? I can try it out by myself but batt duration varies day to day, so I want ur opinion. Also I don't like using custom kernels or mods. And I'm barely getting 3h SoT with cm13 :(
Pls lemme know

I don't have any straight answer to this, it all depends what you do with your device. I don't really look at SOT on Nexus 4 myself, 3 hours seems about right on what Nexus 4 is able to do, wish it could do more, but would need a better battery for this. I would say, that playing a game (need for speed no limits), doing a bit of facebook, check mails, some messenger, i can last the whole day without recharging, I don't take my charger with me at work.
