Credits
- Special huge thanks to @vache and @erfanoabdi who bringup the device tree :)

Changelog
- Check the AOKP gerrit for the ROM changes: http://gerrit.aokp.co/

This ROM now implements OMS.

What is OMS ?
OMS: (Overlay Manager Service) was designed by google. It's a layer/theme service which is used by Substratum: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=projekt.substratum&hl=fr
So basically, if you install Substratum, you will be able to apply any theme on the ROM UI because OMS has been implemented.

I'm about ready to ditch stock 7.0 because of the horrible battery life I'm getting. But I definitely need Moto mods as I have most of them.

I will be watching this progress with anticipation!

We finally have some choices starting for this phone!

I'm going to give you the next compilation with the new security patch, which you should not ask, was not it better to modify a rom that has been abandoned? Type a Purenexus?
Aokp is updating every 2/3 days :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Everything I do is mostly thoroughly planned, I built AOKP for a reason.
Just like LineageOS, it features Burn-in Protection. Other roms (AICP, Omni, Slim, etc.) don't.
And AOKP is the only one that I found which hasn't abandoned Nougat(next to LOS), which implemented Burn-in protection and which isn't in Legacy Mode for Substratum themes.
I also am considering AOSPA but that one requires far too much work than the profit one would get by actually porting it.

Not to mention that all official roms for the Moto Z use the "old" trees.
The ones I used ( by @erfanoabdi ) utilize the 7.1.1 kernel source and blobs( the result is a newer Moto Mods Manager that adds support for the 2nd generation of JBL and Battery mods, which official rom builds don't have).

Only the Camera and Projector mods won't work( I guess) but I didn't want to bother patching things for them to work.
Those who actually wasted money on them(instead of buying dedicated and far better devices like those for that price) and have a problem with this can freely sync the AOKP or any other rom source, patch their build directory every time they re-sync the repositories and make the builds.

I personally wanted to make builds of all the official roms but with newer trees. But since they are either dumping Nougat for Oreo and/or they don't have Burn-in Protection, here I am.
Personally, AOKP is what LineageOS should have been(not the current Legacy Substratum creation that doesn't even have the option to disable the navigation bar without making the user manually edit the build.prop) .

    As for your PureNexus:
-the Nexus devices themselves are "obsolete"( they have been replaced by Pixel devices)
*this argument is just meant to humor perfectionists*
    - they dropped Nougat( there simply isn't a Nougat manifest in their repo anymore: HERE)
    - there are much better roms out there( like AEX Nougat which was also sadly dropped - this rom is my favorite but I guess life isn't fair)
If you have an idea what people "should" build, try building that rom yourself. It isn't rocket science, there are tons of guides( which I also started with).

It isn't my goal to hijack this thread and I don't want to cover it with a feces-throwing competition either.
If the build I made works well with the newer gen of Moto Mods and if AOKP keeps working on Nougat, I will maybe make a separate unofficial build thread. Otherwise those who are interested can always access my AndroidFilehost folder and get the builds when I build and upload them.

    Hi there,
for your information guys, the latest AOKP build is ok and very stable, including many fixes and improvements : aokp_griffin_nougat_nightly_2017-03-12_ota.zip
And it can be dirty flashed over previous version without data loss (just a wipe cache is required)

Also, some new AOKP mirrors are now available (I will update the FP): http://xfer.aokp.co/?developer=AOKP&folder=griffin

    Hey guys!

I made an AOKP build with the 7.1.1-based kernel and blobs(along with the device tree) by @erfanoabdi which should support Moto Mods.
I personally don't have Moto Mods, but I wanna ask anyone who does to test the build out.
The build boots and works fine but I myself can't test if Moto Mods work.

Here is the link to the build:
