I want a oreo custom rom and that shouldn't be a rooted rom because airwatch agent apps don't work in root mode. I tried magisk and app started opening ignoring root but still failed while registering EKYC machine. But on unlocked bootloader but stock unrooted MIUI rom no problems

Make sure you did all the steps right
Under wipe option mark dalvik cache, System, data and cache and wipe then flash the rom zip and 7.1 gaaps. Then clear cache and dalvik cache. Reboot.

Is the device awake all the time? Disabled pocket detection?

NO!
I have used this ROM for a long time (90+ days) and didn't faced random reboots except 2-3. Maybe you should try clean flash again.
OR try unofficial RR builds. If you want to try out then you can flash RR-Modify by @jar2105 or Unofficial RR by @bekcicandrej

So I just wanted to know that will it get ota update for RR ROM Oreo
or do we have to download it separately and wipe the old ROM and flash the new Oreo ROM
Because I want install my usual apps and if Oreo ROM is to be flashed then all the apps of nougat ROM will be gone
And when is RR Oreo ROM to be expected

You ll need to full wipe rom.. Then u can flash oreo rom.. I recommend to Format data (by typing yes in twrp wipe section) once before u flash any oreo rom first time.. Coz because of device encryption.. You may face bootloop issue after flashing the rom.. So format data can decrypt ur device.. After that you will not face such issue.. And thats one time wipe only (including internal storage erase)

Can't be sure. Even if RR 5.8.5(nougat 7.1.2) gets an OTA update to RR 6.0(oreo 8.x), you will have to wipe everything to successfully flash and boot the ROM. RR 6.0 is out now and a build can be expected (no ETAs though).
