I miss a few files in the source compilation process, they are also missing in the images uploaded to the G5:

system/lib/libqti-perfd-client_system.so
system/lib/libqti-util_system.so
system/lib/libqti_performance.so
system/lib64/libqti-perfd-client_system.so
system/lib64/libqti-util_system.so
system/lib64/libqti_performance.so

Where can I download them?
You can download the full complete vendor blobs from "TheMuppets" on GitHub

You are correct in assuming that restoration is available only after wiping the device. For regular backups Seedvault is enough IMO, but you could also look at something like Migrate.
I have rooted my phone running 17.1 and installed Migrate-NG and also updated TWRP to 3.5.2-9-0. However, I don't quite see how Migrate is supposed to work. As a test I have created a backup of an app. As I understand it, I don't need the Helper app and so would then delete the app, boot to recovery and just use TWRP to flash the backup which Migrate created. Is that correct?

Once you have created a backup of an app you can use the Migrate Flasher app to "flash" it. Then you can use Migrate Helper to restore the app. I do not recommend using TWRP, and any issues that arise while using it will not be looked into.

OK, understood - I'll use LineageOS recovery. Do I need a 17.1 recovery image or will 18.1 also work? If I need a 17.1 recovery, where can I find it?

Ideally you should use a 17.1 image - as for where you can find one, I don't know, since it's been some time since they've been deleted from LineageOS' website.
OK, thanks for the info. It sounds like I should just bite the bullet, forget about backup/restore and just do a clean install of 18.1, recovery and all. Everything else seems like a disproportionately large amount of work. Probably just exporting settings from a couple of apps and then importing them after the install will be enough. Contacts and photos are already synced to a local Nextcloud instance.

This has worked perfectly well! Thank you so much!
Hello, I had the same problem as you : tried to install LineageOS but all I got was a bootloop.
After successfully re-installing the stock ROM with TheFixItMan instructions, I tried again several thing to install LineageOS. What worked for me was to disable dm-verity as indicated in this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...5-2_9-0-moto-g5-cedric-32-64bit-roms.3699737/
The thing was that the dm-verity archive wasn't working with my cedric phone. It said that "XZ ramdisk compression is currently unsupported". To fix it :
download https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.zip
unzip it
in the boot-patcher.sh replace
Code:
        xz) compress="$bin/xz --check=crc32 --lzma2=dict=16MiB -9";
            abort "XZ ramdisk compression is currently unsupported" ;;
with
Code:
        xz) compress="/sbin/xz --check=crc32 --lzma2=dict=16MiB -9";;
            #abort "XZ ramdisk compression is currently unsupported" ;;
re-zip the files and use that archive to install alongside the lineageos rom.

Worked like a charm for me

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

Instructions:
  • Download the latest build, recovery image and GApps (if you need them)
  • Flash the downloaded recovery image via fastboot
  • Boot to recovery
  • Format system and perform a factory reset
  • Reboot to recovery
  • Flash the latest build
  • Flash GApps and any other necessary add-ons

What's working:
  • WiFi
  • Camera and Camcorder
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Fingerprint - Oreo firmware required
  • GPS
  • OTG
  • Video Playback
  • Audio
  • RIL
  • VoLTE/VoWiFi
  • USB tethering/audio
  • SELinux: Enforcing

Reporting Bugs
  • All bugs should be reported here: Issue Tracker
  • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
  • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
  • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
  • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

Folks, migrated [1] my mother in law's G5 to this version. It's usually running very smoothly, but now and then we are not able to wake it up again (screen stays black). We have to take out the battery and boot it up again. Also long press on power button with no reaction.
SB else having the same issue?

[1] Bootloader unlocked, TWRP, LOS, OGapps, Magisk

Once phone has booted and confirmed working Flash the latest twrp by following the instructions on the thread

Select the following
rom zip
Gapps (optional)
Magisk (optional)
Reboot

Note to get ota (over the air) updates for this rom you need to flash the lineageos recovery instead of twrp

For what it's worth: Yesterday I did a dirty flash of this version 18.1-20211230 over the last official 17.1. So far everything works great without problems. The dirty flash saved me from having to reinstall everything.

What I did:
-Backup of boot, vendor, system and data using TWRP
-Copy of media files to PC (just in case)
-Wipe of cache and dalvik
-Using TWRP installation of lineage 18.1, magisk and gapps
-Reboot

It's been deleted as they only keep images for 5 years

    They are now here

Hi, i've been using this rom for several months without issues, but with the last updates the camcorder with front camera is crashing. This only happens when trying to use video recording with frontal camera. In photo mode it works just fine. Back camera works fine on both modes. My model is xt1670

Is this still happening on the latest build?

Okaaay ... this seems to be more compliacted than expected. How did you guys upgrade to Oreo FW? Where did you get it from?

    Thanks
update firmware from pc in fastboot mode volume down (-) connect to pc

    Firmware LATAM XT1670 (amxla) Mini
    Firmware RETAIL XT167x (retail) Mini

No, that didn't help. I tried that already. Tried again now, flashed newest recovery image and tried again - didn't work. Updated to latest version with adb sideload.

Thanks for your efforts by the way :)
It should be fixed in the next build - you'll still have to sideload that one, but future builds should update OTA fine

It is not necessary to flash the OS partition (system.img), much less OEM (oem.img) it is for that reason that I left the firmware trimmed to skip that step tell me why you are going to flash the full firmware if when installing a custom rom it will format system & oem I have done it like this and zero errors
