May I ask what is the best practice when updating to a new nightly? I backup my data (Titanium or TWRP?), factory reset in TWRP, install the new nightly and then restore the backup? Is that the correct procedure please?
I'm a bit of a noob if you hadn't already guessed!
There are two options. Clean Flash and Dirty Flash. The first one eliminates the possibility of having problems when Dirty Flashing if the new build /nightly has major code changes. Usually people dirty flash one nightly over the previous one without having any issues at all because Clean Flash is time consuming. But when encountering a problem that others do not have with a specific nightly build, then a Clean Flash is required.
Before any kind of TWRP flashing, backup apps with TitaniumBackup.
Clean Flash : advance wipe all partitions except internal storage (!!!!!! do not select this one as it contains all the photos, music, videos and other files u have on the device !!!!!) , then flash the nightly and gapps, reboot and restore apps with TB.
Dirty Flash : flash nightly and gapps, wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot (all apps and settings are still there) but in some occasions there might be problems with the system.
