I'm just installed cm14.1 dec 18 build this afternoon and it works fine

Maybe your zip is corrupted, try download it again

Zip problem or TWRP problem. Which TWRP you are using? If it's official then try @squid2 TWRP.
There is problem with official TWRP some mentioned.

But CM14.1 works much better on my phone.

CM14.1 does not automaticaly update with TWRP 3.0.2-0.
I need install manually from cmupdater directory.
I upgraded from CM13 without big problems, after install pico version of nougat opengapps.

AFAIK there is no CM-13.0-20161214 for Moto E (condor).
The last CM13 was 20161211, which shared by @oferreiro above you.

What error? Insufficient storage?
If it is storage, then you need to install opengapps pico, or delta gapps base + google search addon, because opengapps nano is too big for cm14.1

You can install smallest gapps zip and use Google play store for other gapps. Low storage is big problem for Moto E on cm 14.1.
