I have installed Lineage os 18.1 and it's much faster then miui. This is my first custom rom. I used it for 3 days now and didn't feel any bugs (or i just close eyes on it after miui😅). I am pleasantly surprised that everything works for me and there were no errors. So i recommend this rom! 👍

Anyone know how to fix that apps dont use wifi/mobile network to find location in LOS 18.1 on Redmi Note 8T (willow)? Location service is enabled and showing as active of course.

I have one app, called "Fahrinfo" from the company BVG (german railway company) that does NOT use GPS for finding location.. i checked the location log and even tho I gave permission to use location Fahrinfo is not using GPS to find location... so Im pretty sure it only uses wifi/mobile locations to determine my location (it worked fine in MIUI 13 and was always very fast and reliable) and I see from other apps that all apps dont find location or have trouble to find location (need a lot of time) or dont find location at all which makes me hardly believe that apps dont use wifi/mobile network at all to find location through google location service

I enabled almost everything I can in the settings, including emergency notification service (because I read that this helped) and of course all services related to google location

Maybe it has something to do with Gapps? Which Gapps by current date do You recommend to install? And do You recommend to (manually) update Play Store and Google Play Services App??

GPS is working fine.. I tried with apps like GPStest and I also reset gps data with those apps.. but as I said: The problem is not GPS, the problem is that wifi/mobile location is not used inside apps

I also read through this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gps-does-not-work-on-lineageos-18-1.4261353) and except resetting data I have tried all what was possible

Any ideas?

I downloaded this app (downloaded from APKpure as BVG Fahrinfo_ Route planner_6.14.1 (137)_Apkpure.apk) and installed it on my willow running DarkJoker's official LOS18.1 (18.1-20230501-NIGHTLY-ginkgo) without (!) any gapps. The app asks for GPS-permission. If I grant the GPS-permission, the app can correctly identify my position. To my best knowledge, coarse location (wifi based) is only a feature of roms with gapps. Since I do not have gapps installed (and also have no option to enable/disable coarse location) but since the app asks location via gps, I assume your diagnosis (app uses only coarse location services) is wrong.
I would recommend that you try to use LOS w/o gapps (but I fear that this is not an option for you). Therefore another option is that you re-flash the rom but skip the step to flash gapps and then test if the app now works. Then you know if gapps is the problem and you can re-flash the rom again but this time again with flashing gapps. Third option is to choose a different gapps package. If I remember well from dev's TG channel he recommends "mind the gapps".

Good luck!
🤠

@Uluru25 Many many thanks for Your help.. but I found the real answer and again its Lineage (in combination with Google Apps this time) that messes things up.. I have/had problems with push notifications and from all my research I know for a fact that Lineage is also the cause for that problem... google for "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle whitelist +com.android.messaging".. actually its the command to run in adb shell to fix push notifications.. but You will find details to this if You google it...

However.. to fix Lineage problems with location service You have to fix permissions.. run these two adb commands:

adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION

Details: https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/3436

During my research I found many other threads on XDA and Reddit with these problems.. go and spread that link

Its a shame. Maybe this one has to be fixed on Gapps package side?! I dont know, I dont care.

... plenty ones are available. Have a look here or here. You will find thousend different recommendations, which you can try. The gcam I am using is shown in the attachment.
Keep three things in mind:
1. If you haven't installed any gapps package, you must install as a first step a little app, making gcam believe that gapps are present. Download it from here or here.
2. Then install the chosen gcam, but BEFORE (!) opening the app for the first time, go to the android settings and manually grant the gcam app the required rights. See screenshot.
3. Usually not all lenses of your phone will work with the gcam. But nevertheless, the quality of the pics with the available lenses is stunning!

Some gcam apps let you "tune" the pictures with a configuration stored in a .xml file. For this you need to prepare manually a folder beforehand. But if you want to do so, read a little in the internet.

Good luck and enjoy fantastic pictures with your gcam!
🤠

The ROM overridden TWRP recovery to its own, now seems like I can't even fash TWRP back -
Code:
fastboot flash recovery *img
fastboot boot *img
puts phone in bootloop with the lineage image on a screen.
Upd: was able to flash recovery after factory reset, and
Code:
fastboot reboot
command with power + sound up

I have 3 or 4 times now flashed TWRP. I always start with reboot to fastboot.

After flashing TWRP I can always boot system. After installing or what ever i always switched back to lineage recovary by fashing it in TWRP.

Never have any Problem with that!

The Wi-Fi service is not activated and when starting after the installation a message appears saying system ui not responding

I did a clean installation following each of the steps, I did a second installation in case I missed any step and the exact same thing happens

lineage-18.1-20230601-nightly-ginkgo-signed.zip --> not work ! for me.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    What's not working :

    Instructions :
    • Download the latest build and gapps
    • Reboot to recovery
    • Format data (if it is first time installation)
    • Flash the latest build and gapps

    Reporting Bugs
    • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

Dear ginkgo/willow users LineageOS is back !
We are working to promote our devices to 18.1, few things to do are left such as pushing all and opening ticket.
    Changes are open at: https://review.lineageos.org/q/status:open+-is:wip
Source will be the same as Official lineage 17.1 ones so clean flash will be needed.
