I am running this latest ROM with Magisk 22.0. It is running well in general, but I have the following issue:

From my desktop: "adb shell"
Then ...
Code:
OnePlus7Pro:/ $ su -
Permission denied
13|OnePlus7Pro:/ $
The only executable "su" is "/sbin/su", and it is a symlink to a file with 755 permissions (that file is /sbin/magisk64).

When running apps, root works fine.

Has anyone been able to get root when running "adb shell" in this ROM?

PS: I have "Apps and ADB" set under "Superuser Access" in Magisk.

PPS: If I do "adb root", I get this error:
ADB Root access is disabled by system setting - enable in Settings -> System -> Developer options

However, there is no Developer setting in this ROM for enabling ADB Root access.

Sorry mate, I can't help you on this.

I can't find where is located the clock style for always on display. I changed the clock style during the initial RR setup but the clock didn't changed, and now I can't even find the menu in RR settings. Any idea ?

EDIT: I think I figured this out. It's because I needed to reboot after flashing to switch slots and I cannot follow directions properly.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I am still trying to make this work. So far, the best I've gotten is RR stuck at boot animation. I am trying the 'clean flash' approach. I could not find OOS 10.3.6. I have OOS 10.3.8, so hope that is okay, but sometimes it won't flash. I am confused about whether I need to reboot to recovery after I switch slots? I'm sure I am doing something wrong, but don't know what yet. I can open the unlocked bootloader, and boot to recovery, but I just haven't been able to successfully flash a ROM or get on to boot. I also van't restore the backup I made. I get an error restoring.

On the PC, I keep seeing multiple 'Internal storage' directories. This goes away when I go to TWRP ->wipe->fix/change file system. change to ext2, then change back to ext4. Perhaps this is a clue to (one of the many?) what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Attached screent shot #1 is what I get when I try to flash OOS to slot A. I'm not sure the correct procedure to switch slots. I am going to the TWRP 'reboot' menu and selecting the other slot. Do I need to then reboot recovery? I see it's not possible to gleen from my poor picture that I am using TWRP 3.5.1_9-0.

Big time WOOT! Thank you for Resurrection Remix. It's rocking, and it's WAY better than OxygenOS. Oh my goodness, does this ROCK. I hope there is a navbar equalizer animation like I remember from way back. Love this ROM!
Haven't gotten to go through it all yet. I *really* am hoping for some sort of 'notification LED'. Really need to be able to tell from across the shop if I need to bother picking the mobile device up off the table when I come back in. Oxygen sucked at this with a one time 'edge light' thing. Had to wait a week to get a bootloader unlock token, but we're cooking with gas now!

EDIT: Totally missed your edit at the top. Glad you got it working

This is what I do without issues:

Be sure to backup anything off the internal storage
Boot into TWRP (I am assuming it is flashed, and not booting from the .img for the instructions below)
Wipe, Format Data, Type Yes. After reboot to recovery.
Copy over 10.3.8 OOS Stock ROM & latest TWRP zip
Install OOS 10.3.8 & TWRP
Reboot to recovery (switches slots)
Install OOS 10.3.8 & TWRP again
Reboot to recovery again.
Wipe, Format Data, Type Yes. After reboot to recovery again,
Copy over latest RR .zip, and TWRP
Install RR & TWRP
Reboot to System
After setup, reboot to recovery to install Magisk if you want root.
Copy back your files

Hope it helps :)

EDIT: Solved It was just the APNs. Added the right settings, and mobile data + MMS are working.

-------------------------------------------------

I just found out I have no mobile data. Is this an easy fix? With Sprint(CDMA) on my old HTC devices, making mobile data and MMS work on custom ROMs was always a matter of getting APN settings correct.

I use Ting MVNO so my new (to me) One Plus 7 Pro is on T-Mobile(GSM). Does GSM care about APN settings? Is there something else I need to do to make mobile data and MMS work now?

Thank you!

Thanks a lot !! Was able to boot up the OS , but I was not able to install magisk.. When i went back to recovery after initial boot -> flashed magisk , then i ended in Qualcom crashdump mode.. Had to go back to fastboot ->recovery to recover.
I am new to a/b system, but one thing i couldn't understand was the rom was flashed to the inactive slot whereas the magisk is flashed to the current partition.
Can you kindly suggest if am missing something ..

Oh, my! I used the Updater App to install 8.6.8. All seemed well, rebooted, and it came up fine but I lost:
root (Magisk), all my custom themes, boot animation, and (perhaps most importantly) TWRP. All of these gone. I tried to restore the TWRP backup, and that was a disaster. Got stuck in a bootloop, tried RE-restoring the TWRP backup and it failed on /data with 255. At this point, I have nothing and am starting over from scratch.

Next time around, what do I need to do differently when an update comes?
Thanks as usual!

I've never been a fan of built-in updater apps. I tried RR one a couple of times back when I was using the ROM and I also had some minor issues like losing root. I used to manually dirty flash ROM/TWRP/GApps/Magisk from TWRP and never had any issue with this method.

I'm curious: does 8.6.8 come with recent security patch like April or even May?

I can't tell you. I only had it running overnight. I ran the updater before I went to bed, noticed my theming was gone and that SeLINUX switcher and Boldbeat call recorder were complaining about no root, and when I got up in the morning, I started trying to fix that by first just restoring my TWRP backup. I rebooted into recovery and saw TWRP was gone, went to fastboot, installed TWRP and tried to restore my TWRP backup to no avail. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. That TWRP backup is still what I would like to restore. Days upon days of settings and configurations. I had the device running perfectly with everything exactly the way I want it. It was truly a delight. I'm still trying to get something to run on it again (besides the bootloader and TWRP). It really seems like this device with the A/B boot partition and other peculiarities is 'delicate' compared to what I have been used to (HTC m8 devices) in the past. I really think I need to learn the process of restoring a TWRP backup on the OnePlus 7 Pro. I think it worked for me only once when I was trying to resize my boot animation and killed the boot process. I really do not know why I cannot restore my TWRP backup at this point. With TWRP running, I should just be able to copy the backup directory to internal storage and restore.. but that just won't complete successfully - always error 255 restoring /data. I've tried without the data partition, but I just get various flavors of "won't boot".

Now, I am trying clean install. Trying to follow the directions at the beginning of this thread, but still struggling. Not sure what is meant by 'sideload' for TWRP. I am installing it by going to install, and selecting the .zip file for TWRP, but the best I've managed is a RR bootloop - runs the red RR bootanimation and hangs there continually running the animation. When I get it, it will be part luck. I'd really like it to be all understood, but not there yet.

is there a changelog for the most recent update?

8.6.8 changelog can be found here but it's not device specific. I'm using 0505 Vanilla build, last time I flashed an RR build was in 2020 so I can't really tell what has been added/improved/changed since then.

Still the best ROM ever if you ask me!

RROS-Q-8.6.9-20210519-guacamole-Official.zip with May security patch is out

Dirty flashed via TWRP from previous Vanilla build, all good (y)

I only make apps backup with SwiftBackup.
Wow. How did I not know this app exists. I've been running custom ROMs since 2012 and have used Titanium Backup and Migrate, but always felt lackluster on restores. Just tried SwiftBackup and it is amazing. The labels for different sets of apps to restore is let alone the best reason I instantly purchased this app. Thanks so much for mentioning it!

    So..this means:
    1) download RR 8.6.9 (.zip file saved to internal storage)
    2) reboot to recovery
    3) Choose INSTALL in TWRP, and install the .zip file from step #1
    4) Reboot system and enjoy rooted bliss with themes and TWRP still in place??
    ???

    1. Reboot TWRP
    2. Flash ROM, TWRP
    3. Reboot TWRP
    4. Flash GApps (only if using Vanilla variant) and Magisk
    5. Reboot system

I also have trouble after OTA update, never been so tricky, I loose root & twrp everytime even atfer following instructions.

With my previous phones I was in a hurry to get updates, now I am scared to update since I don't know how the phone will turn on after that o_O

    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
