hi everyone,
due to personal reasons i can no longer maintain this (or any other) device.
i'm not gonna bother everyone why this is but it's temporary only i don't know how long.
i hope we find someone to replace me while i'm absent.
In the meanwhile keep enjoying crDroid and we'll meet again :)

Hey, face unlock works great without any issues. Take a pic and use it.
I can't tell you anymore.

I have an 8.6 update notification from the Updater, but when I download the MD5 & SHA256 checksums don't match. I've downloaded twice to make sure and the result is the same.
@SeNseiii07
Saurabh, it's great that it looks as if you've taken over maintainership of the ROM from firebird11 - thank you for keeping us up to date. Much appreciated.
I see on the Telegram chat that you're aware of this problem, but I'm reluctant to upgrade until the checksums match. Will you be updating the download page? Thank you.

Since the maintainers take the trouble to provide MD5 & SHA256 checksums, I thought I'd mention the built-in Windows command to verify them (highlighted). This is the result of the verification of the new 8.6 version; you'll see that they don't match the checksums on the download page.

C:\Windows\System32>CertUtil -hashfile E://ADB/crDroidAndroid-12.1-20220704-kebab-v8.6.zip SHA256

Thanks. At the risk of going off-topic, my Properties page doesn't show the verification (Pruefsummen) tab. The "certutil" command may help those who also don't have it.

At the risk of being monotonous, I'm still not getting a matching MD5 checksum. I see this in the Telegram chat (I'm not yet a member):
New crDroid update for OnePlus 8T
🔖 Codename: kebab
📱 crDroid version: 8.6
📅 Build date: 20220704
✅ MD5: DCE586B11B956A908E0D1348EF10D505
🧑‍💻 Maintainer: Saurabh Parab

But my Windows MD5 (see above) is 4cefa3a276eab942ef91e4bb94454d33
This is the same as in zelect0r's image just above in post 189, and a third download has exactly the same byte count and MD5 as the last one, so I'm thinking that the MD5 from the crDroid team may be faulty...?

Agreed or the CrDroid zip has been altered by a third party with bad intent. I won't update for now.

I believe that the md5 is entered manually on the homepage.
There is no separate file to download. So I think the file is okay, it's just the wrong checksum.
But I wouldn't risk it either, precisely because the current update method is absolutely cumbersome and you have to connect the cable to the PC every time, totally annoying.

The entire point of the checksum is to verify not only the technical downloaded file but also the integrity of the untampered source. If the checksums don't match, then nobody should risk installing the file. I agree that the file is probably OK and the checksum has been entered wrongly, but it really does need to be investigated and corrected so that we can have confidence.
Saurabh, this in no way reflects on your work, which I and I'm sure all users greatly value and appreciate.

Hi all
Thanks a lot for this great rom!
However, the Wifi MAC Randomizer feature seems to be missing in the 8.6 release... It was present in 8.5, but now it's gone. How can I get it back?
Thanks a lot!

Please could one of the crDroid team validate the MD5 & SHA256 checksums so that we can flash this new ROM safely? As it stands, Saurabh's work is being delayed or wasted. Thank you.

I have checked the old build.
The checksums are not of this.

File: /Download/crDroidAndroid-12.1-20220521-kebab-v8.5.zip

MD5: 84:ba:10:82:76:6f:b2:8f:8d:29:1d:b0:83:14:1d:cb

SHA1: 64:fa:ad:89:c8:9f:a9:8f:a2:2b:aa:3d:e1:07:19:74:db:cb:c5:9c

SHA256: bb:14:e0:81:91:c9:34:11:14:a9:50:be:a6:49:c6:1e:96:49:2e:0d:2c:12:fd:71:f7:b4:c9:e7:4a:0c:72:9d

Or perhaps donating some money via paypal or whatever to the dev instead of just expecting the highest standards. They aren't getting paid to do this, so tearing them apart on xda isn't going to improve anything. If anything, it just leads to a bitter (and rightfully so) dev and sometimes leads to a dev dropping support for the device.

"The author of CrDroid should think about whether he really knows what he is doing""
There is a considerable difference between "robust criticism" and outright rudeness. This comment is quite clearly the latter. It is offensive nonsense.
    1
Nice comment. Perhaps you could try a bit of positivity rather than posting stuff like this. Don't like it? Move on. No need to be so destructively unpleasant.

I have two questions I hope someone can answer.
    1) There appear to be 4 cameras, but only the left middle one appears to do anything regardless of the function I choose - i.e. the 2x zoom, portrait, video, everything goes through the centre camera, and all the others are not used. Is this the ROM, or is it normal, or am I missing something? I don't see any FC, and the centre camera seems to work fine for everything.
Edit: I just tried GCam port and it's the same - only thr centre camera works.
Edit Open Camera the same. Max resolution is 12MP.
Also (I don't use the camera much) I discovered the 48MP option, which does immediately FC for me. So it looks as if I'm stuck with the standard 12MP camera.

    2) In discussions in the OrangeFox recovery thread (below) the dev reckons that crDroid 8.7 is based on OOS11. Is this correct, and if so are there any plans to switch to an OOS12 base?

I have tried this cam, open cam and some gcams with configs.
All use the same lens, no macro lens, no 48mp and other stuff.
That's the thing you must live with when you are using a custom ROM, that's my experience on all my old devices.
I never used a stock firmware in my life.
    1
I do not recommend this rom. Problems with screen flashing while unlocking. In addition, the camera works badly, has terrible autofocus problems. A much better choice is HavocOS on android 11, it works very stable. The author of CrDroid should think about whether he really knows what he is doing.
Use a black wallpaper for the lockscreen.
The ROM works very stable, it's my daily driver and 8.7 was a big update.
And we can be glad that we've found a new dev for our favorite ROM.
The cam on a custom ROM is secondary, look my answer to @dahawthorne . There are people they using some gcams on stock for some scenarios, because it's better as the stock cam.
You have to weigh what is more important to you. Personally, I prefer to be free on my device and can make compromises.
We wanna get freedom on our devices to get out of the bloat jungle of big tech.
And it's a bad idea to join a project and disrespect it, you don't like it? No problem, feel free and join another one.
And any day when you create your own project that's better than crdroid, so let it me know, maybe i will try it, but when not i join your thread and give some hate, it's probably useful :D
Maybe it's better you go back to stock ROM,
but I'll never leave crdroid for havokos.
    Cheers.
