Thanks,

I've read that if I flash OOS12 firmware "abl.img" in fastboot it will remove the orange state warning but will it boot the system or adb so it can load LOS20?

I don't know. But I Always go all the way back to stock and start over, if I screw something up. Which is my suggestion.

Fixing a screwed up install is absolutely possible, but has usually resulted in bugs in my experience.

Thanks,

I reflashed LOS20 recovery and boot img, this worked to enable adb and recovery, after this I reflashed lineage-20.0-20230323-nightly

It rebooted and my install was successful.

Thanks for your help.

I haven't rooted in a while, what is the preferred method now a days?

Thanks

Happy to help. And magisk is the only one really. Luckily it's awesome! Lol

You can patch the boot img, which I think is the recommended method, but I've been able to just rename the APK to zip and adb sideload it. I would try that first.

Thanks,

I downloaded the magisk zip and sideloaded and received an error:

adb sideload Magisk-25.2.zip
Total xfer: 0.04x

First error signature and error 21,

The picture is attached.

So, I transferred some apk's from my old phone to this one and tapping on them and they will not install, nothing happens.

What needs to be done on this phone to be able to install apk"s?

Thanks

I have and the only apps to install unknown apps are the browser and magisk, the package installer is not there, how do you add apps to this?

The package installer permissions do not have a choice for that.

Thanks

It'll just prompt you for permission.

If you're still having issues, download solid explorer file browser (can probably use built in files app, but I know for sure solid works) navigate to "Downloads" and click on your APK file. It should ask for permission, and then when approved, install that app. And not need permissions in the future.

If you don't get the permission promt, then go back through settings and add that permission manually from setting app, for solid explorer, and try again.

I think your right.

The android file manager does not have the option to install apps.

I installed simple file manager from apkpure and now I can install apps.

Thanks

Just wanted to share my experience after a week as my daily driver.
I should mention that I'm running this with with microG.
Smooth rom and the most of the things is working fine.
What I noticed is this:

Screen brightness is no good, sucked the battery out of the phone in no time.
This is despite having the stk33502 proximity sensor that is reported to be working.
Velis auto brightness solves this though.
One little thing is that all the permissions is revoked after a reboot, which makes me do the set up all over again, any ideas?

Another source of battery drain is notifications, since I don't use google services.
I haven't enabled cloud messaging (push notifications) in microG settings but is this drain normal?
Seems a bit high I think.
This is the f-droid version of element.
I'm thinking of maybe flashing another kernel with battery optimisation or maybe that won't help?

Another thing is that file transfer via USB can be a bit finicky, there's a temporary solution somewhere in the thread.

Do you have root? I'm not having that issue with velies, but I'm rooted. Wondering if that's the difference.

Regardless, the first step of troubleshooting is to just uninstall velis, and reinstall. Sometimes that's all it takes to fix autoboot issues. And make sure it starts automatically, and with it's configuration. Otherwise something is wrong with the app.

For the notifications battery drain, you can check the offending app's settings, and see if you can set notification intervals manually. Set it to 15-30 min. Or enable "cloud messaging" in microg, and rule that out. Or, just use Nano Gapps. Not the answer you're looking for, I know, but it is an answer. Nano if you want Google assistant, Pico if you don't care about Google assistant, and want the minimal Google in your phone.

Also, make sure you've checked settings> battery and figure out if it's an app or the OS itself that's draining battery, and report back. Once we know what the offenders are, we can help troubleshoot further.

Anecdotally, I've had issues with microg every time I've tried to use it. And the trade offs were not worth it for me (I can't miss notifications, even occasionally, work wise). So unfortunately I don't have much feedback. I do know lots of people use it, so hypothetically it's possible to find a good balance. I've just never found it for me, personally.

And MTP (the USB file transfer protocol) is so buggy it's unusable. And neither Google, nor Apple, seem to be doing anything about it. This is not just an Android issue, it also effects iPhones. And it's been in this semi broken state for years. So I wouldn't expect that to get fixed any time soon.

I use Solid Explorer, and SFTP to transfer data, because all of my devices are Linux (and one Mac), and that's the protocol I use (SSH) everywhere else in my network for absolutely everything, not just file transfer. So it's nice to have Android fit right in to my existing configuration. macOS also supports SSH/SFTP, but if you're a Windows user, and don't have WSL2, Solid Explorer supports a TON of different protocols.

You can use SMB (CIFS), FTP, and even WEBDAV.

And if you want to connect to your Android from a computer, not the other way around, you can use solid explorer to set up an FTP server on your phone. I'm not affiliated with Solid Explorer, just a big fan of power user tools.

Hello, I flashed the latest LineageOS on my 8T, but there is no enough space left to flash Nikgapps, it skipped installing Google Search, is there any way to increase the partition size?

Ahh ok, so Velis do actually need root to function properly, didn't thought that was the case.
Have reinstalled it a couple of times but the problen persists.

I did set the notifications intervalls to 2min but didn't noticed any difference.
I can imagine that 15-30min would make a difference but that is not an option since I intend to use Element as my only "direct" messaging app.
Gapps is out of the question for me since I really want to avoid big tech from collecting my data, that's why I was hesitant to turn on "cloud messaging" in microG settings in the first place.

I have turned on "cloud messaging" by now I should say.
Think I can live with big G knowing that my phone exist as long as they don't access any data.
But is there really no other valid option if I wanted to go completely vanilla?
Searched a bit on websockets and json stream but didn't find any "easy to understand" info.
If someone has any experience in this, feel free to explain to me 😁

Really? That's sad to hear.
microG can be a bit finicky to set up, have experienced that as well.
By now I just use Lineage with built in microG, https://lineage.microg.org/, which haven't given me any problems.

Feels like my brain is melting now, SSH of cource!
I use that for all my other devices as well but the idea of using it for my phone has never occured to me 🫣
Linux and one Mac (exited for asahi to mature 😁) here as well btw.

Thanks for an extensive answer!

You're very welcome! Glad to hear SSH will work, it's really the perfect solution, in my opinion.

Non Android, Bonus penguin tip for Linux desktop users: did you know you can run GUI apps from a remote Linux machine, just like they're local? Just use the ssh -X flag when connecting. Great way to use higher resource machines on your network from light/weak laptops.

And unfortunately, much of the functionality in modern day Android, especially when proprietary apps are involved, is closed source, and only included in Google play services. Microg and other solutions are increasingly competent work arounds, but I've never gotten them to what I would consider fully functional.

If I could switch to all fdroid apps, it would probably be a much more complete solution. But I need apps from the play store, unfortunately.

I would love to be wrong.

Here's the fix that made *MOST* of my play store apps work last time I tried. It still didn't fix several apps I couldn't live without, so I gave up eventually and went back to gapps. But it's worth ruling out, you might get lucky.

Good luck!

No custom rom is secure without bootloader locked. With an unlocked bootloader, maybe root any smartphone is at risk from a user possible mistakes and from someone stealing your phone and get access to your data easily. Also I really believe you have to trust the developer of the rom.

Not even slightly to accurate. Every device has mandatory encryption which means nobody can access your user data. Even on custom ROMs, this one included.

Hey, guuyss can anyone help me i guess i have messed up. after sticking with the stock for almost 2 years now i have decided to switch to lineage 20 latest build. have installed it with gapps. perfectly fine but one of my banking app was not working. so thought let's install magisk and use the 'Hide' but the feature is not appearing there i don't know why tho. so i thought let install the magisk app again using the twrp (earlier i was doing everything using the fastboot and lineage recovery mode -- the Apply ADB one). but when i try to flash the twrp i guess i messed up and it is not showing the old lineage one neither the new twrp so anyone can help?? please and yes i still cant use one of my banking app. help me there too.
No need to use magisk nor root. Just flash the ih8sn for kebab and you're good to go.
    Clean flash is a must.
    LineageOS
    MindTheGApps
    ih8sn
    then reboot & enjoy.

there are 3 exes of MsmDownloadTool V4.0 in the msm pack, what should be used on win 10?
    MsmDownloadTool V4.0.exe
    MsmDownloadTool V4.0_factory.exe
MsmDownloadTool V4.0_Win7.exe -this one i guess is windows 7 obviously...

If you use the guide, and links here from XDA this question is answered actually in the OP post. They go to the same place in this case, but there are mirrors, and you have all the trouble shooting and such as well.

    This thread will be helpful.

To answer the question (taken from the post above:)

    Launch MsmDownloadTool V4.0.exe.

Windows 7 users may use MsmDownloadTool V4.0_Win7.exe instead, but it hasn't been tested.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Reporting Bugs
    • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed

    • If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log

Does this rom have full support for dual SIM AKA enabling and disabling SIMs on the go. The previous version did not have that.

Also, does auto brightness work as expected on KB2005?

    Thanks in advance.
Adaptive-brightness definitely does not work as you'd expect, unless the LOS 19.1 behavior is what you'd expect/want.

If I compare the current behavior to either the stock software or other devices entirely with other and/or stock OS's, the LOS 20 behavior is extremely aggressive when it detects any source of light. It typically jumps to around 80% in many circumstances and rarely adjusts itself lower unless there is a massive drop in what the sensor detects. For the sake of argument, I've been keeping adaptive turned on and then manually adjusting the slider to try and help it "learn" but I've not seen anything that even resembles learned behavior.

Anyone know where to download just the firmware for Android 13 for 8T KB2003? Don't feel like downloading the full ROM (over 4GB). Thanks in advance.
    Hi,
    Take a look here,
