Experiencing a weird issue, after temp booting into twrp, and wiping system, sideloading seems like it's hanging. The phone is detected, and the OS is being sent to it, but I waited a good 20 minutes, and got no kind of confirmation on the phone. It just hangs at "installing zip file", but after giving up after a 20 minute wait, I attempted to boot into Lineage, and it did. Anyone else experience this?

Hi,
(1) should the LED for app notifications (SMS, WhatsApp, missed calls) work out of the box, like charging LED is doing? Or do I have to make any setting to activate/customize this?
In 'settings --> apps & notification --> notificatins --> notif. LED --> notif. = enabled'.
Do I need to customize this for each app I want to trigger LED with the setting 'App-Customisation --> + '? Or should it work also without this? Thanks for a short explanation.

(2) is it possible to let the feature allways-on-display (AOD) only activate, if there is an recent app-notification (wahtsapp etc.)? Until now I just find the option to ALLWAYS show time and date as AOD (and then of course all notifications). But that it only switches on, if there is something of interest (to save battery it the silent time)?

I resolved the same issue using a USB Hub. Don't forget to enable USB debbuging in settings/develpver. In my case, Bios is a crap.

Yes, otherwise you can install an app to customize the led.

Indeed, LED works out of the box. But for my tested Apps (Conversations, SMS, Telephony) all have been green and VERY slow blinking. So I moved on with activating "advanced app settings" and made configuration for each desired app - now it is like I want. Thanks.

And Allways-On-Display beeing only active, if there is a recent/active notification, otherwise display is off - no chance to make it with stock LOS18.1?

the wiki guide has a mistake https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/taimen/install

it says

Temporarily flash a recovery on your device by typing (replace <recovery_filename> with the actual filename!):
fastboot flash boot <recovery_filename>.img

when it should be

fastboot boot

not

fastboot flash boot

For what is worth...

On my Pixel 2 (walleye) with stock ROM and fresh unlocked bootloader, aiming to flash LOS 18.1 for the first time:

Code:
fastboot boot <recovery_filename>.img

where <recovery_filename>.img is the official LOS recovery, it hangs on boot showing Google splash screen with an unlocked lockpad.

However, if <recovery_filename>.img is latest available TWRP (currently 3.3.0.0), it successfully boots into twrp recovery.

Whereas following exactly the instructions in the official guide: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/walleye/install

Code:
fastboot flash boot <recovery_filename>.img

Succeeds in flashing the official recovery allowing further booting into it, and flashing LOS 18.1 ROM.

Just my experience.

I just successfully upgraded my Pixel 2 XL from Lineage 18.1 to 19.1 as per the instructions for installing a Lineage OS upgrade. Prior to booting up the phone I also installed an updated version of Mind The Gapps for Android 12 as per the instructions. I plan to use this phone with Google Fi, but I could not find an Android 12 updated version of the Google Fi Addon. My question is, does such a file exist anywhere, and do I need to install it over the Android 11 version I have installed on my phone before it will work on Google Fi’s networks?

My question is, are the builds for 18.1 completely discontinued? I seem to remember google (& lineageOS) supporting legacy versions of android with security patches for at least a year in the past.

AFAIK LineageOS only builds the newest available official release for a device and since LOS19 is official now no more 18.1 releases will be build.

I see that the last nightly build for this was in April 2022. Does that mean that there will be no more nightly builds? I was hoping to avoid the ugly Android 12 interface for a little bit longer.

If anyone is willing to patch android 11 with the last few months of security patches before this project was abandoned I am willing to donate. PM me if you're interested.

I'm not arguing against the effort towards the inevitable Android 12... It's just that most people including me on XDA use the plethora of custom kernels that just haven't (and won't) be updated to A12.

Being that A11 will receive continued support from google for the foreseeable future, I see this as an opportunity to make quite a few people happy.

Best regards

In not sure I understand how to use internet archive. Searched for "lineageos taimen" and the only thing it finds is a safetynet fix.
You are right, I find the taimen build in a different website
I hope this works for you

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11.0, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    What's not working

    • Feel free to report any issues you may encounter with relevant logs

    Installation

    1. Download the latest supported Lineage OS build, TWRP image and optionally the TWRP installer zip.
    2. Reboot to bootloader
    3. Wipe userdata for initial install (fastboot format userdata)
    4. Fastboot into TWRP recovery (fastboot boot twrp.img)
    5. Flash the latest build of Lineage OS
    6. Reboot to bootloader and fastboot TWRP again
    7. (Optional) Flash gapps of choice (MindTheGapps are recommended)
    8. Reboot to system and don't install the TWRP app
    9. (Optional) Flash custom kernel / TWRP / Magisk

A more detailed installation guide can be found on the wiki.

    Updates

Simply repeat steps 4 - 7. You shouldn't need to flash factory images as all partitions (firmware, vendor etc.) are updated with the lineage zip.

Official builds are now available for downloading. The migration process from my unofficial builds is as follows:

    1. Download the latest version of Lineage OS and the lineage recovery image for your device from here.
    2. Reboot to bootloader
    3. Flash the recovery image to your boot partition (fastboot flash --slot all boot /path/to/recovery.img)
    4. Reboot into recovery
    5. Flash the official build of Lineage OS (adb sideload lineage.zip)
    6. If you have gapps installed, reboot to recovery again and ensure you flash gapps again before booting into Lineage OS
    7. Reboot your phone and enjoy!
Or if you use TWRP you can just follow the normal updating steps and skip flashing the new recovery image.

If you are coming from a previous version of Lineage OS, please refer to the wiki.

I've uploaded a slightly updated build to amend the missing live captions button when adjusting volume. Apologies for the inconvenience.
