It seems it's only getting update releases every 6 months? Is this correct? If so, that's not great from a patch/security perspective.
First, it is another kernel, so I don't know if it has the same vulnerabilities. Second, the big vulnerabilities do not pertain to kernel. Third, it works for me. I have Bitdefender, Panda and Kaspersky just in case. Also, my router is heavily protected: DNS is Cleanbrowsing and I have Diversion and Skynet installed.

1. Both are based on 3.10. The problem is that stable-3.10.y branch is no longer maintained. Checking it seems this may be true for AOSP version also,

2. There are plenty of kernel vulnerabilities, what you said above is a very odd thing to say.

3. Not sure how "working" is at all relevant.

So this forced me to spend time pulling all the relevant kernel trees and looking through them. I'm not seeing any updates to the Lineage 14.1 flounder kernel either. I assumed that since 14.1 was merging monthly AOSP updates that this extended to the kernel but it appears there are no kernel updates any more. So lots of unpatched vulnerabilities.

So quit worrying about updates and all the other crap you rave about (day job) and just use a build that works.
I'm using the last build of nougat aicp with no lags or complaints. For media consumption. You said that's your goal as well but get hung up on security updates, and tech lag. Pick one and settle, or move on dude.
We all know the shortcomings of n9, either manage it and deal, or move on to a better device. Period

It's been about a month since the last official build, so here's a new build I just made with the latest lineage source.

The only differences with this build compared to official builds are, it's not signed with lineage private key and the su addon is included.
I'll probably share new builds here monthly-ish.

lineage-14.1-20190301-UNOFFICIAL-flounder.zip

lineage-14.1-20190301-UNOFFICIAL-flounder_lte.zip

You normally would have to wipe data when flashing a rom with different key, but if you don't want to wipe data you can use the migration zip.
To use the migration zip, follow the steps here using the lineage-migration-unsigned.zip to go from official build to my unofficial. Basically you just boot into twrp and flash that zip then flash my rom zip. Pretty easy.
Should make a backup in twrp, just in case.

WOW! i don't post much, but.....i took my N9 off the scrap heap, where its been for years because i hated the performance...and i put this rom, EX kernel and did the decrypt mode thingy. with the opera browser, this thing finally works like i hoped it would after paying the crazy cost of the N9 years ago! thanks to everyone involved.
