I have the strangest issue, and I've googled lots of related terms but am finding nothing on it.
Every other time I unlock the phone, the button bar at the bottom of the screen is gone and the screen is unresponsive EXCEPT that I can pull down the statusbar and interact with notifications. Hit the power button, hit it again, boom phone is fine. Hit the power button, hit it again, no button bar and no touch except status bar, rinse, repeat.
It may be related to the fingerprint sensor? The fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to unlock the phone. I know the sensor works because I use it to get into Mint, BoA, etc. It also allows the fingerprint when configuring a new bluetooth device with smartlock. I can't tell if it is just an unlock issue, or a fingerprint issue.
Quick pulldown is off. Network traffic monitor is on, but the same thing happened with it off. All system icons are shown. Brightness slider is on but the same thing happened when I turned it off. This persists after a reboot. The fingerprint swipe gesture is on, but turning it off didn't matter.
I have no idea what to even search for to find related bugs, but I've found nothing so far. I can try to take a video later when I'm home and have my wife's phone.
