I also have insane bootloops with latest nightly and nano. Was about to flash back to stock and say screw it, but I might try the Pico gapps and see if it can boot up. Let it sit all day, and it appeared to stop boot looping when I got home. Went to launch an app, then it kept boot looping again. Maybe wait for a new gapps or nightly that stops boot looping?

Okay, so some news finally. Got N booting, and actually stable. Like no bootloops so far. I could probably backport that to M, but I think I'm going to continue focusing on getting N to run better. A ways to go still, like no touch and other issues, but I can fix those. Thanks to the guys working on the adt-1 who finally pointed me in the right direction to get things working.

About to try an atv build and see how well it runs. Considering switching the official builds to atv. What do y'all think? Do you use the normal android stuff on this handheld gaming device or mainly the controller based stuff that works on atv?

I honestly don't know right now. I don't think so, due to needing additional keys. The ATV builds I ran for shieldtablet wasn't working as a cast receiver. I'll try once I get OMX and such working.

Sorry bro but when you think the next update will be ready I mean the nougat update  or maybe some experimental build?

I couldn't say right now. What I have atm isn't usable for normal use cases yet. Like the hardware video acceleration isn't working among other things. And I've got a lot of cleanup to do to bring Roth in line with my other shield devices, so future updates are easier. This weekend is pretty busy for me unfortunately, so I'd say I won't be able to get a test build out until later next week at best. Can't guarantee even that.

So, I got a tad further than I expected tonight before the weekend goes crazy. These still aren't what I'd consider really usable, but they're at least testable. The main issue I know of is that hardware video decoding still doesn't work. The interface is also rather skippy still, though the atv build seems better than the tablet build. Also, on the atv build, there's no way to turn the volume back up after turning it down with the one volume button we have without using adb or an external controller. But if anyone is interested, here's a couple builds to play with.

Thanks for that, tried both but at the moment they aren't booting for me, don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this should happen from time to time? :silly:

I haven't had a failure to boot lately. Hmmm... Which stock rom did you come from. Is it perchance one of the older K ones? I need to add a bootloader check to make sure that part at least isn't an issue.

my last stock rom was the lollipop one but I was coming from your lineage 13, maybe tomorrow I'll download again and try but at the moment it stays in the bootanimation :silly:

Would love if you could give me a recommendation for what to do when trying to install again and what not to  I'm in process of learning hahah

Give me a couple days. Getting a lot more stuff working better. Like fixing the powerhal so it isn't so horribly laggy. Not completely smooth yet, but definitely progress. Like I said above, the builds I posted then aren't really usable. If I can fix gps and omx, it should be pretty close to good to go. But I'll post something Thursday or Friday.

Seconded. I'll be me tinkering with it in my spare time as well, so no strong promises on getting tests back quickly and reliably, but I'll be happy to try out things when I can. Should I logcat everything when I'm messing with them? I don't have a TON of experience posting logcats to the forum, but I'm savvy enough to capture them, if it'd help.

Afaik, it doesn't throttle. The fan keeps up fairly well.

So, I didn't make the deadline I wanted to. The issue being I can't make the speaker work consistently. Headphones and bluetooth work, but nothing from the speaker most times. Boot up 13.0 and speaker works fine. I'm confused... But I'll keep working on it as I can. Just had a breakthrough with the other shield device on O, so I'll be splitting time. Not giving up on Roth yet, though. I'll make something work.

Steel was wondering how were things going with the Portable and the Tablet, being using them recently and can't wait to try something new hahaha :silly: would be willing to test if there's something in which I can help, bugs reporting or something like that. And thanks again for everything you have done. :victory:

After a year of being in the drawer getting dusty, I finally was able to fix my Shield! :) The micro USB port disconnected from the board....

My intention is to use it, mainly, as a Media Player (Kodi) connected via HDMI and Ethernet.

Would love to have LineageOS installed :D

Independently from wether that happens or not, thanks a lot @Steel01! Without you the Shield hacking scene would be plane boring :p

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
anthonws.

The official build do still have that issue. The last 13.0 build will be soon as well.

So, current status. Still haven't got the speakers to play right on 14.1. And everything is about to shift to 15.1 now. So, I'm going to basically scrap working on 14.1 and go to 15.1. I don't even have it booting yet, but it shouldn't be to hard once I finish up everything for foster and shieldtablet. Now, I can't guarantee it'll be usable, unfortunately. I was pretty confident on 14.1 until the blasted amp bit me in the face. So, I honestly don't know what I'll be able to achieve on O. But I'm going to give it a shot.

Does Gamestream (Not Moonlight) work in the current official build? And what else is known to work or not work? Thanks for any reply!
