I currently have the v9.1.1.0 global modem installed from here.

Oddly, 20180118 Rom asks for the modem dated 2017-12-22 and won't flash otherwise. The changelog indicates 8.1.4 is required. Do we need that exact version, or is it just a simple = vs >= type of mistake that should say that is the minimum version required but fails to recognize the newer modem?

As always, thanks for your hard work, Luk1337

Always use latest beta firmwares, not the stable ones. 8.1.18 is the current one. It must be at least 8.1.4 in order to flash latest LineageOS.

Thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify, I am talking about the modem, not the firmware. I'm sure you meant the same. So should I flash v8.1.11 from here to update to the latest nightly firmware? I mean I have had no issues with 9.1.1.0 flashed over the previous LineageOS 14.1 nightly. I even found my device to be snappier after doing so. I'll try and report back. Again, I am talking about the modem, not the firmware.

We are talking about the exact same thing.

Color glitches were fixed by Luca so that's no more and yes I think you're one of maybe 2 guys with crashing camera.

Apparently, you're the only one with a crashing camera. The glitches are fixed, like luk said.
And one other thing: luk does the development for free, in his own time. He owes you nothing. Get back to miui if you're not satisfied with lineage os!

I forgot to reply that I had to clear the cache, then the camera app started working :)

Hey guys,

Sorry for being a huge noon here. First time rooting actually. A lot of people have recommended installing Lineage OS and I've decided to take a chance at it.

I've been reading this thread a lot, but I still have some questions:

1. So in order to activate the fingerprint sensor, do I still need to flash the Dev ROM from the MiUI website? And if so, which version should I go with (international or Chinese)?

2. When I go to the Lineage builds for this phone, there's about 5 nightly builds. Should I just get the latest nightly build, or is there a specific build?

3. So far, I've been granted permission to unlock the bootloader. Do I use Mi Unlock or is there another software that will do this process better (I'm mostly asking this because I've seen people mention different unlocking tools that I've yet to try out)?

Right now those are the questions I have. I hope somebody that has time can kindly respond me kindly so that I could do a seamless transition to Lineage (and also root). And I thank the devs for creating this wonderful OS that everyone loves, and I hope I get there too.

1. you need the latest dev version but not just for the fingerprint, the latest lineageos versions will just not install at all if you have an old firmware/modem. i think if its your first install you should at least install the latest dev version once, just to be sure (you can install the latest miui.eu version, its the latest china dev and is easier to install once you have twrp). if you are lazy you can just install the latest modem/firmware from that link klick but as I said, I would recomend installing miui dev version (or miui.eu) at least once.

2. always take the newest build. (if theres a critical error in a build you will read about it here, but that shouldnt happen)

3. just follow the instructions on the official miui unlock site, dont use third party unlockers.

Awesome man, thanks for replying so fast too.

So from what I understand, it should go like this, right?

1. Unlock through Mi Unlock
2. Download TWRP (latest version I suppose?) and flash it.
3. Download and flash China Dev official ROM from xiaomi.
4. Download and flash Lineage OS
5. Done (and also Magisk I guess).

thats pretty much it, but if you flash official china dev, you will loose twrp again, so you have to reflash it afterwards. if you want to avoid this step, install xiaomi.eu (i said miui.eu in my previous post, that was wrong)
so to summarize:

1. Unlock through Mi Unlock
2. Download TWRP (latest version!) and flash it.
3. Download and flash latest xiaomi.eu rom (it's a debloated china dev version click
4. Download and flash Lineage OS, gapps (opengapps.org --> ARM64 --> 7.1 --> and choose a version, I always take pico because its the smallest) and magisk
