It will brick. I have attempted it a long time ago, didn't work. Why? Many phones now have anti-rollback protection nowadays. So just back up everything then nuke the phone's SSD with MSMTool and factory OOS 11 (or 12) image, then update the phone as appropriate. Afterwards, install the Nameless ROM. I am currently staying on Nameless ROM that's using Android 11 bootloader until I get the external SSD to move my stuff over prior to updating.

> "MSMTool and factory OOS 11 (or 12) image ... "

I've only been able to find factory OOS 11 images with MSM tool. Is there something out there that will give me OOS 12 straight from MSM without having to do the updates after MSM? That would be fantastic...

This may seem stupid, but after hours of being unsuccessful, I realized that when you click the download link, the big green download button actually downloads the ROM from July 8th and not the most up to date one. You need to click the up to date ROM in the list. That solved all my issues.

On a side note, I see that wireguard is build into the kernel from the source code, but the wireguard app isn't seeing the kernel. Anyone have a solution for this?
Dude, you are my hero, this definitely helpful for anyone who follows every step precisely and can't boot.

Well i was searching for workaround. I came across Basic Call Recorder Link. Installed it using magisk.
It's great. Using it with google dialer. No overlay, no notification. If anyone look at your call screen, that person wont know that call recording is running.

I wish the developer, merge BCR with this ROM, then no need of root.

By the way, few banking apps are detecting root.
I have configured zygisk & denylist... Still... 😟

Any suggestion?

perhaps i will try
[GUIDE] Unbrick or restore to OOS using only fastboot
and post findings here

FYI
[GUIDE] Unbrick or restore to OOS using only fastboot
works just fine.
I did flash both slots OOS12 before going to Nameless though.

Guys, how to know the firmware version currently on my phone?

My phone was on oos11, then i flashed Nameless-AOSP_kebab-12.1-20220708-0926-Official.

Build number:
SQ3A.220705.003.A1
you are on oos11 firmware. you will have to go back to oos via the msmtool unlock boot loader and update to the latest oos12. i recommend looking in the telegram group thoroughly before doing anything

12.1 20220708-0926 is in kebab-11 folder so I guess it is for 11 firmware.
In general, if you never let OOS upgrade from 11 to 12, firmware still is 11 layout.

I had unlocked the bootloader, before flashing.
Then flashed using fastboot enhanced/payload.bin method.
I checked the telegram channel. I read about a/b slot /double flash. As of now i want to stay on this version, since this is my primary phone & it took long to setup everything after flashing.

I have installed an call recording app BCR by magisk, but few banking apps are detecting magisk.
Is it possible to bake an app as system app in the rom before flashing?

I went through this yesterday evening and hit many snags and confusions due to looking up different posts... So I thought I'd write down my process in the hope it helps others.

Before you begin
  • Backup of all Data, Fully charged battery, really backup all your data
  • Know how to use Windows command prompt, move files and folders about in explorer (or know how to set the PATH variable)
  • Follow this guide at your own risk!

Downloads

Set-up
  1. Install ADB + QualCom drivers. Reboot is required
  2. To check, connect phone to PC, reboot phone to fastboot, check device manager for anything with a yellow "!". Then repeat when in recovery. If you have issues here Fix this BEFORE continuing

On PC
  1. Extract Nameless ROM zip
  2. Extract payload extractor zip
  3. copy payload.bin from ROM to payload_input folder where you extracted payload dumper
  4. Command prompt -> run payload_dumper.exe (takes about 5 minutes)
  5. In the payload_output folder will be .img files. You'll need these later

Roll phone back to Android 11 with MSM tool
  1. Follow msm guide: https://www.getdroidtips.com/oneplus-msm-download-tool/. Took 900s to complete
  2. Complete first boot setup sequence, don't restore any data, skip as must as you can. Don't perform system udpate. Stop apps updating.
  3. Install Oxygen Updater -> Download KB2003_11_C.21 (Android 12) ~3.88Gb
  4. Whilst that's happening: Enable Developer Mode, Enable OEM Unlocking, Enable USB Debugging
  5. Once download complete, copy the update .zip file from root of phone to your PC
Unlock bootloader
  1. In command window: adb reboot fastboot
  2. In command window: fastboot reboot bootloader (as soon as you press enter to run the command type and run the next one so it's waiting)
    • fastboot oem unlock
  3. Accept the text menu and phone will reboot and wipes itself
Update phone to Android 12
  1. Clear setup asap, bypass / skip / ignore all you can
  2. Copy downloaded oxygen update from PC to root of phone
  3. Local install using Oxygen download file (ignore the system update) + reboot
  4. Enable USB Debugging
  5. In command window: adb devices -> ensure you're authorised
  6. In command windows: adb reboot fastboot
On PC
  1. In command window: open the payload_output folder (with the extracted .img files from earlier):
    • fastboot flash boot boot.img
    • fastboot flash --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta vbmeta.img
    • fastboot flash --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta_system vbmeta_system.img
    • fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  2. Use fastboot menus to reboot to recovery (new blue one)
  3. Press "Install update" -> "ADB Sideload"
  4. In command window: adb devices - ensure it says "sideload" and not "unauthorised"
  5. In command window: adb sideload copy-partitions-20210323_1922.zip
  6. Reboot recovery from menus on phone
  7. In command window: adb devices - ensure it says "sideload" and not unauthorised
  8. In command window: adb sideload Nameless-AOSP_kebab-12.1-20220723-1310-Official.zip
  9. Click back arrow in recovery, then click "Factory reset" -> "Format data/factory reset" -> "Format data"
  10. Click back arrow in recovery, then click "Reboot to system"
If you miss a step and boot the phone it's likely not going to be stuffed. In this case, force it back to EDL mode (adb reboot edl) or hold the up + down volume buttons for ~40s and start with the MSM tool again.

Well, I used a 4x4 grid as locking system in my previous Nameless ROM (based on 11). I installed 23rd July version (Android 12) today. And now when restoring backup I'm asked to use a 3x3 grid, and THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. Am I going to lose 8 years of cloud backup ? It's insane !!

<snip>
Unlock bootloader
  1. In command window: adb reboot fastboot (into fastbootd <- note the d!)

This part is confusing to me - you say "note the d!" but the correct command is "adb reboot fastboot" without a d. However that is different from "adb reboot bootloader" ...

adb reboot bootloader - gets you into the fastboot bootloader.
adb reboot fastboot - gets you into fastbootd, which is what we want in this step.

adb reboot fastbootd - device doesn't know what "fastbootd" is, so just reboots to your regular system.

Clear as mud, ha ha.

Thanks for the guide. :)

That was a note for me - I noticed it was fastbootd and looked different from the fastboot previously - removed it now.

The only oddity here is you (at least I) can't unlock the bootloader from the fastbootd screen. Instead you have to queue up the unlock command and tell the device to reboot fastboot, seems to do it then. What works, works I guess :cowboy:

For anyone wondering, this process works. It's basically what I was doing before, but the copy-partitions zip I think is the secret to it all. I'm now on the latest Nameless rom.

All I have been reading are issues during installation from OOS11 to OOS12.

How about the ROM itself? Stable? Bugs? Anyone reviewed this new version?

Gotta justify the hassle before I commit!

This rom is first custom rom for my 9r.
It's running great!
I have some feature requests:
1. Option to make 3 navigation button semi transparent to avoid pixel burning. Or option to vanish them while typing or scrolling.
2. BCR as system app. (No need of magisk then, banking apps will work smoothly)
3. Please keep battery charging limiter permanent.
4. Option to reduce processor speed to reduce heat. I'm noticing battery consumption & temparature more than stock oos11.

I've posted how I managed to do it on OOS12 firmware here:

Hi everyone, I wanted to inform you that the wide camera mode does not work in the stock camera
You have to disable something like 'ultra wide lens correction '.. then it starts working 👍

Can I also follow this if I am on the Nameless 12.1-20220708-0926-Official Build? :)
Yes I think so, you just need to check if that build is based on OOS11 or OOS12 Firmware.

Using 9R LE2100 (China version, but with OOS)

Switched from stock OOS 12, C33 version to this amazing ROM.

Everything works!!! Fast charge, refresh rate, winevine are all OK. Battery life is great. Thank you ROM DEVs :)

Just some notes here to help others who might encounter issues:

    - I made sure both slot have OOS 12 C33 firmware by forcing the local update for C33 twice.

    - I flashed recovery to both slots with:

    Code:
    fastboot flash recovery_a recovery.img
    fastboot flash recovery_b recovery.img

The whole process went smoothly, without any hiccup. Not even being stuck at 47% as mentioned in the original guide. The whole thing just passed cleanly.
