Would someone be able to give me some pointers on how I can diagnose what has been causing the periodic restarts? At this point it is at least once a day that the phone will restart itself. It is becoming a serious problem for me as it is unpredictable.
I am not sure but I feel it has become worse within the last 2-3 updates.

Actually it was displaywakeup node in powerhint.json
I've Submitted a patch, so hopefully in the next build this will be resolved
Hey, I applied the patch but this issue has not been resolved. I noticed the screen going black again when playing music on VLC (which is when it most commonly happens).

Me too!

Do you mean streaming it or playing music thats on your phone? I was streaming a radio station when it happens. It could've also happened while I was playing music thats on my phone. I stream a radio station alot more often so it's hard to remember. I also play videos with VLC and I don't think it's ever happened while I was doing that. It seems to be happening less than it used to.

Is anyone else noticing icons in the status bar being replaced by a notification dot? There's plenty of room to display all the icons, but it doesn't for some reason. It's has to do with space, not the number of icons. I started a thread about it here with details about my investigation. Any idea why this is happening? Is it an Android issue or a LineageOS issue? I attached a screenshot so you can see my status bar.

@SyberHexen , would you have any ideas? The out-of-the-blue rebooting is at least daily now. It happened last time today while on a Skype call (very inconvenient).
No Google Apps/frameworks loaded on my device but I could still I am sure find a log capture utility on Aurora or F-Droid if necessary. Thanks!

You don't need a log capture app. Just install a command line app like Terminal Emulator, open it and go to the folder where you want to save the log to. Then type: logcat - f <filename> on the command line and everything logged will be saved to that file(including when the phone is sleeping) until you stop the logging. I have my phone rooted. I'm not sure if you need root to do this.

Edit: You could also use logcat through ADB. See here. But if you do that, you have to leave your phone connected to a PC all day until an incident you're waiting for occurs. If you happen know how to trigger an incident, that's not a problem.

Please provide the logs as neither I or erfan have random reboot issues.

Good call, thank you. I have not established root access on my Edge but I setup Logcat [No Root] from F-Droid.

Will do! I am not sure how to trigger it yet but the moment I get something I'll pull what I can, thank you

Well, the bloody thing crashed while it was plugged in some time overnight.
So, of course, no logs seem to have been captured through the ADB-enabled logcat application as it rebooted.
I have been searching unsuccessfully for any way I can find shutdown logs on Android on the internet, no luck.
Damn it.
Will I need to root the device and start digging around? ANy advice?

I think I located the kernel crash logs in /sys/fs/pstore
I pulled the two files i there via ADB. @SyberHexen , I could get those to you if they may hopefully help a it.

Great work, is there any way to increase the speed of wifi? I found that the WiFi signal is very strong, but the internet speed is three times slower than stock rom's WiFi. thanks

I think it's been 3 or 4 weeks since the screen went black. I think it's been a week or two since a random reboot. Apparently those issues have been fixed. 😀

It happened to me last night.

Curiously, the reboot was long and rough. Usually the reboot is is pretty fast, but for that one and one or two others, the LineageOS boot up graphic ran for a few minutes and eventually froze. The the phone rebooted and the boot up process finished that time. Shouldn't that be a clue about the cause of the random reboots?

Could we at least agree that the black screen issue has been fixed? Anybody still getting that?
😬

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Introduction:

This is the unofficial Lineage OS thread for the Motorola Edge, codename racer.

We support all the T-Mobile, International, and Project Fi variants, as their bootloaders are unlockable, while we can't support the Verizon and AT&T variants, as their bootloaders are permanently locked.

    How to install:
    • Boot the newest lineage recovery .img from the Link (or use TWRP).
    • IF YOU ARE COMING FROM STOCK AND WANT TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS FOR FIRST TIME, INSTALL "Copy Partitions Zip" FROM POST #2
    • In Recovery, click "Format Data".
    • ADB sideload the newest weekly
    • Click "Reboot, then choose "Recovery", this will boot you to either Lineage Recovery or TWRP depending on your choice to install TWRP or not. It is necessary to reboot between ROM flash and GApps/Addon flash due to verity/slot-swap logic.
    • (Optionally) Flash GApps - MindTheGApps arm64 are recommended, OpenGApps are compatible with A/B as of 09102018, but I still only recommend and support MindTheGApps.
    • Reboot

Happened twice to me yesterday. I have adaptive brightness on, in Livedisplay I have the automatic display mode, power consumption reduced, a 30 second screen timeout, in ambient display gestures I have pick-up and hand wave on. Nova 7 as my launcher, password/fingerprint in use.

Display was off - the phone moved so that quick display popped on - I pressed the power button and the lock screen appeared - I pressed the power button again and the screen went blank - all well so far. I then pressed the power button again and the screen remained off while the phone was running as normal. Screen would not turn back on.

On one occasion the above happened and I flipped the phone over and laid it down. I waited 20 or so seconds and picked the phone up and that quick notification display reappeared. I pressed the power button and the lock screen appeared - all was well. On the other occasion the screen remained off and I had to reboot.

It doesn't always happen, sometimes it fixes itself while most times it doesn't. For me, it's always power button related.
