missing: data roaming

Hi again! I have been in Austria for a few days and was left with no data roaming. this has been mentioned earlier in this thread, I just wanted to inform you that it is still not working - at least for me with the following predispositions:

Asus Zenfone 8, 256 GB, 8 GB
LineageOS 18.1, build 20220218-recovery-sake
vodafone callya
APN: web.vodafone.de

I called vodafone to check settings. They told me, they had no attempts from my SIM-Card to log into the Vodafone Mobile Data Net. Calls and SMS no prob, only data roaming does not work.
Obviously, the phone does not even attempt to login to the net.
Same for the second SIM Card, a prepaid data card (ALDImobile).

Do you experience the same issues? What have you tried so far? Has anyone gotten data roaming to work?

Since I am on the road quite a few times and I live near the border, getting data roaming to work would be a huge relief.
thanks all!
My phone works with Vodafone data, although I haven't crossed the Dutch border just yet (will do so in 3 weeks, though). To get my phone working, I had to manually configure the APN, using the settings Vodafone provided on their Dutch website. On their German website, I find https://www.vodafone.de/hilfe/google/pixel-6.html which says APN should have:
Name: <well you can choose any name, obviously>
APN: web.vodafone.de
Proxy: Nicht definiert
Port: Nicht definiert
Nutzername: Nicht definiert
Passwort: Nicht definiert
Server: Nicht definiert
MMSC: Nicht definiert
MMS-Proxy: Nicht definiert
MMS-Port: Nicht definiert
MCC: 262
MNC: 02
Authentifizierungstyp: Nicht definiert
APN-Typ: default
APN-Protokoll: IPv4/IPv6
APN-Roaming-Protokoll: IPv4/IPv6
Träger: Keine Angaben
MVNO-Typ: Keiner
MVMO-Wert: Nicht festgelegt
Is this what you have for APN settings? Does Internet work for you in Germany?

Hi @Sarum4n and thank you for your fast response. I used the APN settings provided by Vodafone, so yes, it works for me in Germany but not in other countries.
The APN settings are identically as you listed above with one exception:
For APN-TYP I had "default, supl" in my settings. I changed this now to "default" and at least in Germany where I am now, it is working. I am not sure, if this makes a difference, but I will test next time I am roaming.

Thank you once more, I'll comment on this as soon as I had the opportunity to test it.

Did you check that your APN settings match with those that your service provider gave you? If you are not sure, go, google "<your provider> APN settings".

Edit: seems my webpage was out if sync with the debate. I assume you already got the answer. Godspeed!

I am using microg for lineageos, latest build at this date: 20211222 (I don't know on which lineage build it is based).
i face the very same problem as users with "no vibration": whenever a call comes, i feel a very subtle move (as if the vibrator motor received an impulse, but it has no time to ramp up and is immediately stopped).
haptic feedback seems to trigger a normal response.

i tried to change ring_vibration_intensity setting from 2 to 3 (settings put system ring_vibration_intensity 3), but the feeling was the exact same.

Is there anything I could test to help diagnose this issue?

By the way, it seems that the menu allowing to change vibration intensity is gone (in French, it is Force des vibrations et du retour haptique): I see an entry Force des vibrations et du retour haptique under Accessibilite, but this item has only 3 sub-items to enable or disable vibration for ringing, notifications, and haptic feedback, but nothing to change intensity.
So there is at least a bug in the label of the menu, or in its sub-items.
After updating to latest lineageos4microg, I can confirm vibration work as expected.
There us still no way to change its intensity, but this is not a big deal.

Other than this, no issue on my side, everything works flawlessly😊

Thanks for the hard work you put in this rom!

So far with Los4Microg, everything is fine.
But
Is there a way to improve the intensity of the vibration?
To improve battery? cause I have to charge it twice a day
To bypass security to use NFC payment like googlepay?

Hi, I have the same issue like @Winnie_LD

I am with a German SIM in Italy for a few days. But I have my laptop with me and could provide some logs.

I'm still on the 2022-01-21 build.

Edit: not sure if this has anithing to do with that issue, but Its not possible to manually select an other network provider:

Why you install LineageOS if then you go and install everything Google has ?
Just stuck with the stock Asus OS.
Just get rid of all the Google sh*t, turn battery saver always on and you will have a full day of use.

Thank you for the development, coming from Xperia models and the modpunk-Los, I'm really happy with a working Lineage on Z8 now.
I have one issue with gestures, swiping up and hold the finger to see recent/open apps does not work for me. Any workaround?

And one wish, don't know if it's possible because it seems to be an AOSP-thing: can the screen unlock straight after entering the last number of the pin without the confirmation button?

Would be great to get the Asus stock camera, Motion Camera crashes after taking a picture, Photon Camera has a completely wrong white balance/color temperature and it takes too long to take a picture. Opencamera is far away from the quality of Asus stock.
GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.5 with xml is working for me with Gcam Services Provider (basic) from F-Droid, but with a few bugs and crashes.

Can anyone confirm if the bootloader unlock method is as steep as written in the wiki?

Is it a case of the Lineage developers outlining the worst case unlocking procedure or is a google account actually needed just to unlock the phone?

Don't remember the Zenfone 6 unlock being this complicated.

Okay, then give me a bit more information. Whats your starting point? What TWRP Version, LOS and Stock (if) you have/had?
I started with an untouched WW_30.12.112.82 Stock ROM, tried with the 2 newest TWRP versions and Lineage 20220318.

We could provide a bounty via bountysource.com, for somebody making OrangeFox working with LOS.

I am about a week into running LOS with microG, rooted with Magisk. Really happy so far! Huge thanks to all working on this!

However, losing FM Radio borders on deal-breaker for me. It was a key feature of the Z8 for me and I was using it daily on Stock Rom. I pulled the two ASUS FM Radio apks from stock, but they won't install on LOS. I've also tried a couple of older LOS FM radio apps, same result.

I know it's disabled on the Z8 for Europe already, but has anyone else in North America had any luck getting FM Radio back on LOS?

I'm delving into building a degoogled phone. After much research settled on an ASUS Zenfone 8. However, it looks like I didn't research well enough; the bootloader unlock tool provided by ASUS insists on calling Google to sign-into an account. Further, their own disclaimer in the Unlock Device Tool states:

Unlock Device Tool needs to use the IMEI of the device. You must consent to share the IMEI with ASUS, or it cannot be unlocked

If this is true, it is very, very unfortunate. Has anyone found a way around this?

I'd wager a good many people turn to lineageOS to be able to walk away from Google. If there is no alternative then perhaps this caveat should be spelt out in big red caps here.

Truly hope I'm in status wrong and people can set me right.

Sincerely

I am pretty sure Asus already knows your IMEI, they just send it over there to blacklist your phone from official OTA updates from the settings app. With the phone unlocked, you would need to download the update file manually. But yeah I don't think there is a way to unlock it without this tool.

It just doesn't matter. There's absolutely no point in hiding your IMEI from the company that created your phone lol.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. A direct link to kernel sources can be found here. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Instructions:
    Download:

    Reporting Bugs:
    • DO NOT report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed.
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless.)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues.

Can't tell as I can't make the LED work, even after several factory resets :(
I've fixed the LED for notifications, see https://review.lineageos.org/q/topic:sake-led

hey ZVNexus, thanks for your work. I use your first no gms build. Wehre can i find the new one? Only GMS now?
A lot of people use LOS without google apps....

    Thanks and best wishes
I don't have the bandwidth to upload both so I just upload what I personally use. Officials come out starting around Friday, so those will be without GMS and have a regular upload schedule.

I'm using it daily for 2 weeks:
    ++
    no Ramdump (05-2021 batch)
    better fluidity compared to stock
    very stable
battery improvement compared to stock (not huge)
    no Google :)

can't use BT earbuds with aptx codec during calls from phone or app (Signal, Whatsapp, Wechat), but all listening functions works well (spotify, new pipe, vocal messages, etc...). works fine with AAC/SBC earbuds.
can't use the LED notification (works for ZVNexus tho)
The LED works for battery stuff, not notifications. When the next weekly build rolls out this will resolve the issue: https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_device_asus_sake/+/318068
