Is there a way to install stable Stock ROM to Zenfone 8 after installing LineageOS 19.1? I would like to compare functionality between LineageOS 19.1 and stable stock Android 12. I can only find Android 12 beta raw files but cannot find Android 12 stable raw files. I tried putting the stable zip file into root folder (while running stock Android 12 beta) but the update notification never appeared, even after rebooting.

Hi,

I'm a happy Zenfone 8 owner and LineageOs enthusiast since... A very long time.
I see devices moving to lineage 20, but it seems sake is not really actively maintained currently.
I know how open source development works, and I would like to thank people involved in LineageOs development for their great work.

I'm not really a developer but I have some knowledge in code and software build, and some spare time.
I wonder if I could bring any help in porting lineage 20 for sake, if ZVNexus or any other maintainer for this project is around, what are the main steps to achieve? What are the most important tasks required?

Thanks!

Thanks for taking initiative, @azertyty ! I'd really appreciate having LOS20 on my sake and would be willing to donate for developing it. Unfortunately I am no coder and can't really contribute...

Hi,

So despite the very quiet activity on this thread I noticed that things where moving on the
LineageOS github.

ZVNexus merged/fixed code and created lineage-20 branches for sake.
I managed to build Lineage 20 and I'm using it on my phone since yesterday evening, and so far everything looks good (except maybe contacts sync, but I'm not sure if it's related It was a permission issue).
I don't know if I can share my unofficial build here, but I'm pretty sure that we will have official builds of Lineage 20 for sake very soon!

Thanks again to all people involved in LineageOS and opensource developpment.

Follow instructions in the official LineageOS page:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sake/install

Remember that after you unlock bootloader your phone will be blacklisted forever on ASUS so you will lose official OTA updates. You can still manually update if you decide to use stock rom.
I do not mind manually updating.

So I do not have to worry about losing DRM keys like on some Sony phones or something else important?

I am only asking these questions because I do not want mess up my phone by not following instructions.

Anyone did notice improvement in terms of battery on this OS? Stock firmwares for me are lately just really crap, 30-50% battery usage in others, seems like sensors, but can't really find an issue what is causing it or confirm this for 100% that it's sensors. Wondering if anyone switched to this OS specfically for better battery and noticed difference?

I did some testing with idle only (at night) and got the following results:
Stock Android 12 31.1010.0411.160, only LTE data & AOD off, Naptime not yet installed, not rooted yet = 0.49 % / h
Same but with AOD on = 1.23 % / h
Same but with AOD off, Naptime installed and phone is rooted = 0.42 % / h
LineageOS 19.1 with only LTE data, AOD off, rooted, Naptime installed = 0.3 % / h
Cannot test AOD with LineageOS 19.1 ZenFone 8 because AOD is bugged, screen doesn't go dim and the Hz doesn't drop so the battery drain is huge, well I did one test and the battery was dead within 6 hours from 18% of battery life.

@ZVNexus could you please fix broken NFC on LOS 18.1 branch for sake? I've built last LOS 18.1 following the wiki's build instruction, everything works perfect except NFC payments. Secrity patch is march 5.
I think many people still prefer Android 11 (it was great with user friendly interface).

Sure.
LineageOS 18.1 Unoficial sake 03/28/2023

LineageOS 18.1 recovery (flash as boot.img))

You must be on latest official Android 11 ROM to flash LOS 18.1.
3 minor bugs:
- then you use fingerprint scaner, it always bright with all display, not inly fingerprint area
- NFC
- color gamma is always sRGB no matter how you set up your LiveDispay
And you can use NikGapps to add google services.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 12, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. A direct link to kernel sources can be found here. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Instructions:
    Download:
    Reporting Bugs:
    • DO NOT report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed.
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless.)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues.

Put up a new build with some things resolved, notably SELinux is now Enforcing.

I also switched from stock's prebuilt NXP NFC stack to the open source stack. Anyone who is able to make payments with Google Pay or something like that, let me know if it works.

Added a vendor_dlkm partition to hold vendor kernel modules so you can flash a different vendor regardless of the kernel situation as the modules are no longer held there.

    Enabled automatic brightness by default.

Fixed night light by correct PIxelworks device detection.

Switched from QTI BT to AOSP BT until it gets merged.

    Hi guys,
I am a Zenfone 8 user. I always follow the updates here in xda thread. Unfortunately there was no updates related to lineageos 20 (Android 13) for our device Zenfone 8.

I saw today in lineage os logs that the next build, which will come on 26th of May will be lineageos 20. That means we will get an official support from lineageos. 🎉

Thank you for the developers. Lets see, if the update really happens.
Yeah, the update will really happen. I'll make a thread as soon as the build is up.
Sorry if I had you all waiting for long :p

Put out a new build, forgot list of changes. Try it out. Put up both GMS and non GMS this time.
