No need to all of that I simply reflashed the stock firmware with the new bootloader from sammobile , reflash TWRP after , rebooted to recovery format system then install everything else :D all working now
That worked, thanks man! Midway through I thought I was screwed for a little while because I have an SD card being used as adoptable storage but all seems good!

Ok, so as you suggested I installed Ubuntu 16.04 on a VM and built Heimdall. My problem now is I'm not sure how to get the VM to see my tablet connected via USB to my Windows PC... I'm researching if there is a way to make this work but haven't come up with anything yet. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks!
yeah, i think it would be easier to make a bootable ubuntu usb stick.

What is going on? I cannot installed 3/28/2017 with TWRP. Finally found the new firmware. Not easy and in Taiwan. Crazy.

So I guess I install this new firmware with TWRP. Can I then reinstall TWRP and restore my BU or will that erase the firmware?

Or, do I reflash TWRP and install LOS latest and rebuild everything?

I have been out of the Samsung world for sometime with HTC and Nexus. Hard to follow what is going on here.

Tried to install the new stock recovery with ODIN, but it loops between Logo Screen and Language selection. Cannot even turn the tablet off or hard reset. What gives?

OK finnaly got it. Installed updated stock in Chinese with ODIN, then reinstalled TWRP with ODIN. Then restored old TTWRP BU, then updated LOS to 3/28/2017. Voila we have new LOS with old data.

Maybe won't go back to root. Hope never to have to go through all this again, but anything to avoid Touchwiz.

Anybody willing to share their downloaded firmware file? I can't wait through 7 hours of downloading on sammobile. I see it's not on updato yet either. A user on 813's LOS forum extracted the necessary files from their firmware update, made a Tar and flashed it through ODIN. Is this possible with the 713? Big Thanks!! To anyone that can do this.

So how does the firmware update thing work? I'm running the 20170321 build. Can I upgrade to one of the newer builds without having to flash the new firmware? If not, any resources someone can point me to regarding flashing firmware?
You need to update your firmware first or the new lineage build will not install because of a new assert bootloader check.

If you have a linux machine available, go and download the latest heimdall sources and build it to flash the new firmware on your device.

If you only have a windows machine available, then create a bootable ubuntu 16.04 live usb stick and boot off of that (it will not change anything on your system partition). Then go and build the latest heimdall sources and use that to flash the new firmware.

Download the latest firmware from sammobile and extract all the firmware files (remove recovery.img, boot.img and system.img.ext4 because you dont need those).

Use the following heimdall command to flash:

Code:
heimdall flash --SBL1 sbl1.mbn --ABOOT aboot.mbn --RPM rpm.mbn --TZ tz.mbn --HYP hyp.mbn --SEC sec.dat --KEYMASTER keymaster.mbn --CMNLIB cmnlib.mbn --DSP adspso.bin --MODEM modem.bin --APNHLOS NON-HLOS.bin --HIDDEN hidden.img.ext4

Thank you @Deltadroid.

After extracting everything and flashing with Heimdall, I booted and the tablet booted into a black screen pretty much. Then, I rebooted into recovery with ADB, installed the 20170404 update, rebooted and now I'm good. Is this normal that in addition to flashing updated firmware, you should also do the newer LOS update at the same time? I'm asking so that maybe we can document this somewhere.

Also, I seemed to have lost my wallpaper during the update as well. :/

Any effort to improve docs would be awesome. I assume the official wiki would be the place.

Firmware updated to T713ZSU2AQA1 (downloaded from updato)

Then flash with heimdall

Note : on Archlinux, i had to use the AUR package "heimdall-git" (flashing didn't work with the community "heimdall" package, even if both package have same release number).

Most seems to work fine, except some wifi issues (sometime the wifi is lost and i need to hard reboot the device to have wifi back).

EDIT : frequent unwanted wifi disconnections / autoreconnection (annoying with Chromecast).

EDIT2 : LineageOS statistics doesn't mention country i am from. Because no SIM or is it an issue?

PS : i'am happy to have an official LineageOS release for the SMT713 - thank you to maintainers - but was not happy to have no more clear information about the required firmware update, simply announced on a post on this thread. This kind of thing need a clear warning on first post / installation wiki / how to, it is not very common.

I'm considering purchasing this tablet. From what I'm reading the best thing to do would be to update it to latest official rom via ota, and then install TWRP and LineageOS. If I'm wrong, what would be the easiest way to install from brand new out of the box?

Beautiful! So, would users of this ROM say it's viable as a daily driver?

As an aside, suggest to OP (thanks for all your wonderful work!) fingerprint be added to the "Working" section of the original post, to minimize confusion for newcomers like me.

That would be easier than finding the new ROM, however the Chinese versions were all that were available when the LOS required them. There is supposed to be a Nougat version for the S2 rolling out OTA now, so I would wait on that. At that point the newer (3/28/2016 and later) versions will install. Only reason to do LOS is that it does not have Touchwiz and you can use TWRP. Also down the road, LOS should live on while Samsung drops the S2 updates.

I have had good luck with LOS so far, but I use Nexus and Pixel phones and want all my OS to look close to the same. LOS actually has a few things that are better than stock Android.

On updato.com you can download a Nougat image for UK (T713XXU2BQCO). After flashing this you have to update TWRP from here. But flashing lineage-14.1-20170411-nightly-gts28vewifi-signed.zip fails with error 7. It expects bootloader T713ZSU2AQA1, the nougat image comes with T713XXU2BQCO.

Sorry guys - really don't mean to be a pest, but am about to purchase this tablet because it's on sale. I realize I've asked before, but haven't received a reply - kindly request a quick one from a few users of this ROM.

The question : is this ROM viable as a daily driver? I will use the tablet to peruse the web, consume media (music mostly via Pocket Cast) and also, most importantly, to view PDF documents for work with XODO.

Thanks much!

I'll say battery isn't as good as stock but but not by much. WiFi is more consistent.

Definitely fine for a daily driver.
