Nov 26 build is great

Hello everyone, first post here on XDA.

I recently bought a T713 and I am currently running the nightly from November 26. I don't use my device for calendar, email or any other sync, so I guess I could be a good candidate for good results on deep sleep. I just use it for web, series, movies, games, tuning my instruments, etc... Basically only "screen on" features (my phone already needs to connect on a permanent basis so I say let him do all the sync stuff). I have a simple tasker profile turning off wifi a few minutes after screen off in case I forget to turn it off manually, and a trivial home screen widget to disable this profile in case I'm downloading stuff or if I need "screen off" wifi for any other reason.

This being said, I can say I have perfect "screen off" battery life with this awesome ROM (minus 0% for more than 24h). So I don't understand why you guys need to get your hands on a previous build just because one guy said it was better then. My (short) experience tells me I could hardly get a better battery life than the one I currently have on the Nov 26 build. My feeling is, if you have battery issues, your post Nov 10 build might not be the root cause...

So big thanks for Luk1337 for providing this quality OS to us! I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Flashing this Nov 26 build alongside the pico gapps makes my T713 light, fast and stable.

Actually, I have only one minor issue that I don't understand. It is about gaming performance, and I don't know if it's a known issue, or if it's just something I have to tweak so it can behave properly.

I tested XCOM Enemy Unknown with my stock device fresh out of the box, and the intro cutscene played flawlessly. Now, everytime (100% reproducible even after fresh boot) it stutters a bit, and then halts completely for more than 30 seconds (although the audio keeps going). It doesn't keep me from playing since the interactive part is quite ok, but this is the only time I could clearly see something that is better with stock OS, so I was wondering why...

However, even with this minor issue, I can testify that the post Nov 10 builds have no battery issue. I was sad for Luk reading these posts and this is why, after years of silently using XDA knowledge, I felt I had to say it!

This is the best advice that I've seen and implemented straight away, can immediately see the improvement today. Thanks

comming from 5.02 ?

Hi, I did not flash any rom on my tab s2 for ages as I didnt want to loose one of my apps (every time new rom was flashed app devs would count it as new device and I only could use 3 :( )

...so I am coming from 5.0.2, is it safe / OK to just flash it as per first comment instructions?

Instructions :
Download the latest build and gapps
Reboot to recovery
Flash the latest build and gapps
Reboot

thanks!

You have to format data to get rid of Samsung encryption then flash per the first post.

Just installed the latest. Seems fine so far.

I guess we have just given up getting local videos to play correctly? It's really the only thing I've missed, but seems like it's never getting fixed.

I could post logs if there's actually a reason to.

What do you mean by "local videos"?
Video files stored on the tablet. YouTube/Netflix/etc. works fine, but if I have an app that DLs a video and then tries to play it the video freezes repeatedly while the audio still plays. This has always been an issue. It was mentioned a few times but never got fixed.

Not really sure what the specifics are, but I know it was both mp4 and mkv, which I know is not helpful info on its own. It was both high res and low res stuff. I'll grab some info and post it.

You mean newer stock FW and then back to LOS? I'd be willing to do that, but I never imagined that would help.

If you're smart enough to use heimdall you can just flash everything but system, boot, cache, userdata.

$ heimdall flash --SBL1 sbl1.mbn --ABOOT aboot.mbn --RPM rpm.mbn --TZ tz.mbn --HYP hyp.mbn --SEC sec.dat --KEYMASTER keymaster.mbn --CMNLIB cmnlib.mbn --DSP adspso.bin --MODEM modem.bin --APNHLOS NON-HLOS.bin --HIDDEN hidden.img.ext4

Soooo, I did that, successfully, but the issue persists. Happens regardless of which media player I use or what video I try to play. And I've attached a log.

This seems to be a super repeated thing. Maybe it shows what the issue is?

Code:
12-16 20:08:55.092 I/NuPlayerRenderer(469): possible video time jump of 4651ms (4732843 : 63958) or uninitialized media clock, retrying in 10ms

I had issues in the past with stuttering videos, either on locally on MX Player, or YouTube, or any other player. It has happened twice since purchasing my tablet and both times, the issue was resolved by doing a complete redo of the latest firmware and re-installing all apps from fresh.

Not sure if this will help your issue, but it worked for me....

Hmm. So you mean a clean install and no using Titanium Backup? I'm sure that could make sense, but this tablet was setup fresh, because I lost my last one, and I couldn't use TB to restore things. I've also never run stock FW on this tab. It was setup fresh with LOS 14.1, and the issue has been there since the beginning.

I guess it's worth a shot. I'll do a TWRP backup, move it off the tab, start fresh, and report back.

Just to make sure I understand though, you're saying install full stock, wipe, and setup fresh with a clean install of LOS and no app restore?

EDIT: So, a clean install of stock FW does not show the issue. Gonna flash LOS and see if videos still work correctly.

EDIT: OK. I'm totally baffled. Clean stock Samsung FW plays videos fine, but a clean LOS with 0 apps installed videos stutter every single time, and right now I'm going on flash #3 trying different combos of things. This is insane.

I'm done. Would be nice to play videos, but it's not gonna happen, apparently. I had a phone like this once. LG 4x HD. Refused to work properly on ANY custom ROM, but was perfect on stock, outdated FW. Seems like this tab has a similar issue, and I'm done trying random crap to make it work.

If anyone has any ideas, I'll still gladly try them, but I don't have anymore. Netflix/YouTube/etc still works.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Obviously not a lot has been ported to Lineage so please don't report issues like: "broken buttons backlight". That will be ported over soon (TM).
Also you need custom TWRP build to install these packages, you can find link in the OP.

BTW: You might have to force reboot after the gapps installation is complete as the unofficial installer is bit buggy ( you can do that by holding power, vol down ). Also it doesn't support addon.d so it doesn't persist when updating to next builds.

I seem to have solved my battery problem by automatically disabling WiFi when the screen turns off.
Need to run more tests to make sure, but last night the tablet lost 1-2% of battery.

I automated the process by using "Automate". The free version is enough if you don't want to run anything else w/ it.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate&hl=en_US

Create a flow that looks like this:
    WiFi_display_toggle.png

Make sure you give the app permissions by ticking the "access local network, internet and nearby devices" box, then installing the app it redirects you to.

Also, you probably want to enable "Run on system startup" in settings. Careful, this can cause havoc if you have other, malicious flows.

    Run the flow and enjoy!

I'll report back in a few days with more info about this.

Q2. Any chances of having L15 nightly for T713 anytime soon?

As soon as L15 source gets bit less ghetto and I finish up the SELinux.
