Went to perform 15.1 update this morning and was excited to see 16.0 official. Absolutely made my day and working brilliantly (also dirty flashed)

To update from a recent 15.1 build, I just need to flash the 16.0 ROM and Gapps, wipe cache and Dalvik, and reboot? No need to wipe/format data, right? Thanks.

In 9 hours, the 2/17 build of 15.1 lost 8% with WiFi off and no apps open. The 1/10 build would only lose 2%. I don't know why one build would be so much worse than another. I won't go back to stock but it's disappointing. I guess at least some 15.1 builds are no better than 16.0.
Thanks for this, lmacmil. It validates the issue I was having with LoS 15.1 (newer builds) and 16.0 as well. My experience is similar. I could never get idle usage below 0.6% to 0.7% per hour. On stock, I can get down to 0.2% per hour. My tablet sits 95% of the time, so idle usage is super important to me. Hopefully, the situation improves.

FWIW, there is a stock build for the UK dated 2/20/19 with the January 1, 2019 security update (which is really the thing I care about). Again, hoping that idle usage drops back down, as my preference is to run Lineage.

I am running the 2/20 build with the Feb 5, 2019 security patch and it loses 2% or less overnight. I see that 15.1 updates have stopped so I may take the 16.0 plunge soon, probably after the March security update is out.

16.0 Terrible Battery Life

The battery life was great on 15.1. It's awful on 16.0. I lost 25% battery capacity from a full charge in a few hours with very minimal use (a few minutes' worth). Something is wrong with this build.

Well, I never found battery life on 15.1 great. At best it was ok and at worst awful. There were often large differences between builds (which I found quite hard to understand) and, even on the same build, sometime a reboot could change battery life dramatically in both ways: it could go from bad to good or viceversa. You never knew what to expect. This has been always the case and it was mentioned many times in the 15.1 forum. I am not sure if the developers can't pinpoint the problem or if it affects, for some reason, only a few devices and not others. Even a basic installation only with LOS and GApps (and no other application) showed the same behavior.

Unfortunately I see the same pattern with LOS 16. A few minutes ago I flashed the Mar 5 build and I noticed that with the previous one I lost 17% in 4 hours of standby! And in the past days I also saw that a restart would massively change battery usage. Exactly the same as with 15.1. :(

This is just a preliminary observation, but if you go to "Wi-Fi preferences" and disable "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" and "Open network notification," the battery drainage appears to be much, much better.

rom is amazing. when i first got this tablet, i didn't think it'd EVER get updates. I'm so glad there's still a community that loves the best small-factor android tablet out.

Same feedback as everyone else. The rom works great, there's even fewer bugs than in version 15.1. But battery is awful, a lot more awful than with version 15.1.
I guess this is very complicated to fix it, or even not possible, since this is the #1 bug in lineageos on this device, but since there's no feedback from maintainer, it's hard to tell...
Great work though, We can still handle the battery the way we did in 2010, by manually disabling network when not used... No option when it's used though... Just have a power supply next to you :)

I tried this but I did not observe a significant difference. In my experience, when I notice an excessive battery usage, a restart might help at least temporarily. On the other hand it can also make things worse.

I am tempted to go back to 15.1. This ROM is otherwise excellent, battery drain is its only issue, but it's a huge one. Yesterday I lost 17% of battery (100% to 83%) in about 20 minutes of light browsing (no videos or animations, I was reading an on-line newspaper) with the display luminosity set at somewhere between 50% and 60%. The tablet was getting warm as if I were gaming.

This morning - I just checked - I see 2% idle drain and the CPU never goes into deep sleep.

If I flash 16 and decide I don't like it, can I go back to 15.1 by just wiping the system partition and flashing 15.1 ROM and Gapps? Or will I need to do a full factory reset?

Factory reset would be needed.

I can't get USB file transfer to work with a desktop. I start to transfer a file, it looks like it's transferring, then just stops. Original file left on desktop. I'm using the original cable. Have toggled USB debugging back and forth, revoked prior USB debugging authorizations, changed USB default to File Transfer. Desktop is Win10 and I am using samsung drivers.

I'm on the March 3rd Build if it matters.

Any one have any suggestions or advice on why it isn't working? TIA!

No need to shout! ;)

Here you go. Today I saw 2.1% idle battery drain over more than 7 hours. This is, in my experience with this ROM, more or less the minimum I can expect. Wakelock Detector does not show anything unusual, so I doubt that I have a runaway app that keeps the tablet awake.

Hope it helps!

Now we are at a 2.6‰ per hour idle drain over 12.5 hours. See attached log. Still nothing unusual detected by Wakelock Detector. Basically in half a day with no use the battery went from 100% to 66%.

Incidentally, in my previous post I meant 2.1‰ *per hour*! It makes all the difference.

Thanks for submitting this! Hopefully it's an easy fix.
