@Steel01 Hey, so I might be getting a Shield Portable shortly. Could you give me a rundown of what the development is like for it right now? I saw you are working on LineageOS for it, which is awesome

Not much? Unfortunately it's getting harder to get tegra 4 running on the most recent Android releases. M is running pretty well. There's an issue with soft reboots during startup. Have something to try there, but haven't had the time to try it yet. But I'll be releasing lineage 13.0 whenever the official builds start rolling.

I can get 14.1 to mostly boot, but after the boot animation finishes and the main display is coming up, the graphics stack goes under trying to run egl make current, returning a egl_bad_alloc. Another dev got a tegra 4 device fully booting N, but I haven't found the magic bit to replicate to Roth yet. Maybe one of these days once the console N release settles down a bit.

If I wasn't in university and had barely any free time, I'd love to learn how to get into building android versions for devices like this. Oh well.

How would one get android marshmallow on their nvidia shield portable considering Cyanogenmod seems to have imploded? I know that support is being worked on for lineageos but I can't find any download links for any of them?

No, the 13.0 builds haven't been run yet. Once they are, Roth will be available.

I haven't looked at 14.1 much more lately. Been going back and forth with the new stuff on the shield android tv. Hopefully the shield tablet won't be too hard once that's done. Then I might have time to come back and see if I can get the portable up and running.

I'll be ready to flash and report ;)

@Steel01 would it be possible to have an ATV build for the portable?
The leanback launcher is pretty cool for this device :p
Wouldn't be hard at all. Just need opengapps tvstock finished up. Having issues on the console and 14.1 right now. But I can run a copy of it for roth and see what happens. Still going to be M based, though. Haven't got the graphics libs happy with N yet.

Edit: Firing off a build just because. Will see if that finishes before I go to bed tonight.

Alright, give the following a shot and see what you think. Couple things to note: Don't expect opengapps tvstock to work. Several things were crashing for me. I included leanback launcher and leanback keyboard, so the main functionality is there for use with sideloaded stuff. Also, the bootloop stuff still seems to plague this build. Not as obvious for me because it was looping on the boot ani, only reason I knew was because I was watching the logs. I've still got a couple things to try to fix that with, just haven't got around to it yet.

Works well, trying to figure out which apps to disable from gapps now :)
1. com.google.android.tungsten.setupwraith
2. com.google.android.atv.widget

Edit: Youtube works
Edit: scratch all that it's too crashy, I'll just sideload the stuff I want.

Sucks that I can't add a google account tho :p

Actually there is something weird, after a while it slows down (a lot), I think after sleep, not sure if there is a way to work around that.
But when it's working it's a lean mean RetroArch machine :p

I'm running a build with adjusted dalvik cache settings. Looks like stock 110 basically used the phone 1024mb options. So, I'm seeing if that stabilizes boot and possibly the slowdowns. I've been using phone 2048mb settings since it is a 2 GB device. *shrugs* There are some weird memory management things going on with the shield devices...

Once I get some more time to look into it, I'll poke at gapps some more. Fugu (nexus player) had cm-13.0 builds and apparently had a working gapps package. Might be able to grab that and see do some comparisons to see what's different.

I did a bit of testing and with the new dalvik settings, I wasn't getting bootloops or any slowdowns. Still gapps issues all over the place, though (starting to narrow that down). So, the dalvik part is promising. I'll have to run a standard build and put that change through the paces and get it pushed if it indeed does fix that problem. Doing too many things at once, though...

Hey guys,

I am late to the party, as I just got a Shield Portable.

What's the best custom ROM for this thing in 2017? I have heard of the Buckler ROM, and Cyanogen, but which is best? I don't care for the bloatware, and I don't need the Google Play store. I want it to feel like a real Android portable, and I want to have it boot to some sort of front end, and set up Hyperspin on it (I got a 256GB Lexar 1800X microSD card).
