Pinned App Screen Stops Updating

Running 20190318-0846 build. Pin app screen, turn screen off/on a couple of times, screen stops updating. Have to exit out of pin to recover.

Affected: Urban Biker, GPS Locker, WhatsApp, Chrome, GMail
Unaffected: Strava, Google Maps, Instagram, Clock, Velographic

(Not exhaustive list, just examples)

Any ideas?

So finally, the official build is out....

Get it from here: https://get.carbonrom.org/device-mako.html

Changelog: https://carbonrom.org/carbonrom/changelog/

Note that the build size is 385 MBs and that is because of perf vendor and not using brotli compression. However I was able to install ROM and gapps in one go.

If you get error related to system partition size, then please increase the partition size (Refer XDA threads for how to do that)

Android Screen Pinning: Settings -> Security & Location -> Advanced -> Screen Pinning - On

Open app, press overview, press app icon, select pin from menu, this keeps app in view until you unpin.

Turn screen off/on a couple of times, screen stops updating for some apps (see examples in previous post)

Have you tested this on any other ROM? I never used this feature (on mako or my Pixel 2 XL).

Gotcha, no, tested on CR only.

Full story: I run Urban Biker app as my Android bike computer. App has a “keep above lock screen” setting that works like screen pinning. Works correctly on Nitrogen, not CR. Tried screen pinning as an alternative, same problem. Reported to devs, they could not find the bug. Checked a few other apps, and found the same behavior.

My gut feeling is that this is not handled by ROM. Had that been the case, it wouldn't have worked for any of the apps. It is worth trying that on Lineage 16.0 and reporting back here

For what it is worth, comments from Urban Biker devs:

"Okay, did the test on stock Xperia 9.0, tried with both screen pinning and screen locking, and display was updating normally all the time (at least 4-5 minutes). No issues. Tracking was active, and we simply observed clock in the topmost meter field. One thing that didn't work, though, is 'Keep screen on' feature. So had to increase display timeout in Android settings to 10 minutes. Not sure if this has anything to do with your issue. Maybe all of this indicates some Android behavior change, or obscure option/feature or something..."

Good to know that... Thanks for sharing, I hope that they solve it.

Everything is beautiful so far. I use android 9 on my nexus 4 for week now and it's amazing. It's just missing one thing. When screen is on and on wallpaper double tap on free screen sleeps the phone. It is so good to have that option. Please add double tap to anywhere on free space on android desktop to make device sleep. Very convenient and cool feature.

Hey @nitin.chobhe had some weird issue in latest opal build
Swipe up on home button is not available and digital wellbeing is not shown in setting menu and the recent tab doesn't look like that of pie instead it looks like that of oreo or some older version

Except these the rom is super fluid.
Thanks a lot man

Was that a clean flash?
What is your flashing process and what all things did you flash?

All those things work for me (and I expect for others too otherwise there would have been reports about them).

I'm not sure about those gapps as I've not used them. Can you just flash the ROM and check "Swipe up" and "Recents"?
