Alright, after way too long, I've finally gotten oreo working well enough to test. Please note:

These are beta quality, not suitable for daily usage yet.

Known issues will be listed. Anything not listed should work (but not everything has been tested).

Tested with opengapps micro arm64 8.1.

If you would like to test nougat upgrades, please let me know how that goes. I have only done a clean install so far. Keep in mind that you will need to flash oreo gapps, as gapps persistence does not work across versions.

Sources
Device
Kernel
Vendor

Prerequisites
All oreo builds require an updated TWRP to flash:
jasmine-twrp-7.1-3.2.3-r1.img

do you plan on updating this rom anytime soon? there seems to be issues with the Wi-Fi connection in the latest build.

can make the first build with the available sources and send you a more updated logcat

if there are more volunteers you can go further and maybe make it official on LineageOS.

but you must report the bugs well detailed with a complete logcat

I cant turn on wifi on both roms ..
I had the same problem. I was putting on oreo image, gapps, and magisk su. If you put the magisk on later, another reboot, the wifi config error goes away

Ive been having issues with screen dimming very quickly, regardless of the setting in the rom. 30 seconds or less. Ive played with all the settings i can find, no luck. Anyone else having this problem? I went back to stock briefly to try and set it there. Under stock it didnt happen. On the custom roms it does. Thanks for the nice work on these roms though

Edit: I timed it, the screen fades to black in time varying from 2-3 seconds to 12 seconds. Anyone else?

Edit 2: Ok got it all figured out, its working great. Having google recover the apps also recovered some settings that were causing it to blank out quickly and randomly. Do a clean install, no recovery, I think it says for a fresh look

Here's what I did:
Advanced Wipe everything but MicroSD and USB OTG
Flash Oreo
Flash Gapps
Wipe Cache/Dalvik
Boot system (wifi works)
Go through startup panels.
Do not restore any google backups
Reboot recovery
Flash Magisk
Reboot (btw I never installed the TWRP app from the last page since its an orphaned TWRP, doesnt really do anything)
Presto! An awesome working Oreo build for a great tablet. Nice and fast.

Thanks tdm and all! Trek 2 lives on and without the weird OEM lockscreen. I hated that thing

Installed the Lineage OS variant today over the Lineage OS 14.1 that I had on there. One of my kid's games wouldn't work without Oreo or above, and I tried the dotOS 2.5 ROM with Oreo, but the game would install, but get stuck on loading screens with that one, and all of the Endless kids games would crash when starting them.

Set up with Nano GApps 8.1.

One thing I noticed that's different from the 14.1 build is this build seems to have fixed the starting asking you for Wifi AFTER asking about transferring from another device, this one did it up front, which is good, I had to say "fresh install", set up Wifi, then go back to transfer data on the other one during startup.

It still seems I'm not allowed to say "No Thanks" to Google Assistant, if I do it just tries again until I agree.

I'm a bit weirded out why the notification sound is using an Alarm by default..

Got everything installed, confirmed the Endless games don't crash, and confirmed that the other game that required 8.1+ was able to download and start games!

Thank you so much, this breathed additional life into this tablet, and I'm sure my 3yo will be very happy to have it working on his device!

Maybe no one is using these tablets any more but
I successfully installed TWRP
I got magisk installed and i flashed to the official 7.1

Ok all of that worked fine

Using files form here by the way

Anyways that worked fine except for all the AT&T bloated junk etc.

So i did a full wipe and then loaded
aokp_jasmine_oreo_UNOFFICIAL_2018-10-17.zip

and open_gapps-arm64-8.1-micro-20211112

Reboot, it starts to go through the setup, and then the google apps keep
stopping

Wiped all 3 times, and reinstalled, same result

lineage_jasmine_oreo_UNOFFICIAL_2018-10-17.zip
this one works, sort of, i can at least get set up and to the home screen
then google services keeps stopping
Can run other apps, but nothing google related, they just crash loop

Can reflash back to factory 7.1 and all is good.

Others seem to run the orea versions fine though, so i am wondering, what am i missing?

Can anyone check if their FM radio works on this ROM? Just flashed and it didn't work, also didn't work on my Nougat ROM. It will open and even detect for headphones but won't play anything or seek to stations.

Good day to everyone in here, sorry in advance if I may sound offensive to the developers in here about my question. May I ask about latest progress in regard to Oreo stable build. @tdm, @juniorgerman.

    Thank you

Sent from my ZTE K88 using XDA Labs
I'll get it done soon. Just too busy with other things at the moment.

Oh and by the way, pie is a very easy jump from oreo. So that should come very quickly after oreo is done.

    @tdm @juniorgerman

At last I finally have a working build! I have no idea what was causing me so many problems as I never could get an error that pointed at anything being wrong. Thank you for your help and all the info you have shared with me, but after the last make clean && make clobber everything seems smooth. Yall have a good weekend.

    Hey tdm,
Thanks for giving your sources it has helped me out as I have been setting up my own build environment. Have you had any luck compiling 16.1? I'm in the process of compiling now just for fun and was wondering what chances it might have at completing.
    currently at
    [ 64% 1433/2206] //external/boringssl:libssl clang++ src/ssl/tls13_server.cc [linux_glibc]
but i have no clue if it will finish. Also if it does would it be safe to flash?
    Thanks,
    Shane

P.S. your oreo build is working great dirty flashed over 14.1, no problems to speak of.

my question is the phone call is not available right?

and I'm seeing in TWRP that decrypted works faster

I have not yet put in my SIM card, so radio (data, sms, voice) is not tested yet. I will put in my SIM card and test tomorrow.
