CyanogenMod 10
unofficial HTC Wildfire S builds

Important Edit

I no longer develop for this phone. If you wish to use this version of Cyanogenmod then by all means please do. However if you are looking for a more up-to-date version of this ROM then please search around in the Wildfire S forum for a modified and more up to date version by another developer.

These builds should still work and be stable but no support will be provided.

ABOUT CYANOGENMOD

CyanogenMod (pronounced /saɪ.'æn.oʊ.dʒɛn.mɒd/) is an open source replacement firmware for smart phones and tablet computers based on the Android mobile operating system. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware distributed by vendors of these devices.
Features supported by CyanogenMod include native theming support, FLAC audio codec support, a large Access Point Name list, an OpenVPN client, an enhanced reboot menu, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering, CPU overclocking and performance enhancements, soft buttons and other "tablet tweaks", toggles in the notification pull-down (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS), app permissions management, as well as other interface enhancements. According to its developers, CyanogenMod does not contain spyware or bloatware. CyanogenMod is also stated to increase performance and reliability compared with official firmware releases.
CyanogenMod is developed as free and open source software based on the official releases of Android by Google, with added original and third-party code.
(source: wikipedia.org)

CyanogenMod was first ported to the HTC Wildfire S by alquez via CM7, it was later ported by gladiac to CM9, this was a big leap as Google had changed multiple things in the 4.0 Android update. I personally took the challenge of porting gladiac's work to the jellybean version of Cyanogenmod, CM10. Once I had a booting ROM I posted it on XDA. Since then, many things have changed in CM's own code and I have merged many of WinSuk's and gladiac's fixes into my personal repos.

WHAT'S WORKING

  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth
  • LQ YouTube playback
  • Hardware acceleration
  • SD Card mounting
  • Mobile network
  • Phone calling/SMS
  • Streaming video
  • Sound
  • GPS
  • Overclock
  • EXT (Data2SD, Link2SD, A2SDX and similar) mods

KNOWN BUGS

  • Video camera doesn't record
  • Camera preview has graphic bugs, but can take a picture fine

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q) Home button doesn't work/the ROM is laggy/my apps force close!
A) You are a fool - wipe data.

Q) Is there a marvelc version of this?
A) Yes, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30468307

Q) Where is X that was in CM9?
A) It's not ported to jelly bean by the CM team yet, wait a few weeks and it'll probably be merged

Q) Gallery doesn't sync with picasa
A) There is currently no fix to this due to the way the gapp packages work.

Q) For your next build can you include X?
A) Not really, I want to keep this as stock cyanogenmod as possible.

Q) Why does this have the wrong boot animation?
A) It doesn't, there is no official CM10 boot animation for now so I'm using the CM9 one, but I will be using an unofficial CM10 one soon.

Q) Where's Google Play?
A) Flash gapps.

Q) Do I have to wipe data coming from CM9?
A) I had many bugs when I didn't, so I recommend you do.

Q) Do I have to wipe data going from nightly builds?
A) Defiantly not. But in the case that you do get an annoying bug, wipe data and that should fix it.

Q) What recovery should I use?
A) Any, as long as they work. Tested with my own TWRP 2.2 and with CWM-based 6.0.0.7 port by gladiac.

Q) Why is this not marked as beta or alpha
A) Because not even CM10 itself is in alpha, so this is pre-pre alpha

Q) When will X get fixed?
A) When I fix it :)

Q) Where can I see new changes to CM10?
A) http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#/cm10/undefined

Q) What do you recommend for Data2SD?
A) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309

Are modpunk and alquez assisting you in some way????? If not..... Team Up.... This will boost the development a lot....
I'll probably Jellybean Suit up some time :)

Me and modpunk do talk from time to time over IRC, he's been educating me on some linux stuff, so our relationship is a bit better than it was :p

As for alquez, afaik he's busy with work and stuff. He hasn't been around for a while so I have no idea what he's up to :p

All in all, a pretty useless ROM for most people at the moment, since like every single Android 4.x build for the HTC Wildfire S, only anything between 50% and 85% of the features actually work, and will probably ever work. I'm more excited by the Gingerbread-based ROM's. IMHO, if you want Android 4.x, go buy a device that supports it natively -- you'll feel the difference.

Shiieeet, sorry folks, my cousin was trolling on my account --"

Ben, will you be including a CM10 core in Robotomod in the future ?

No plans for it, although when Ivan (dudeman1996) comes back from holidays we'll probably discuss jellybean.

This is XDA fool. The entire idea is not to let your phone die and develop and port new brilliant stuff for it, not just to buy a new phone when the going gets tough.

I'm running jellybean right now actually, because it encourages me to fix the bugs that get on my nerves, speaking of bugs, storage problems are fixed and audio/telephony fixes need testing. There's also a new boot animation.

If you wish to update over the air then please either reboot your phone, go into goomanager -> check for updates or wait 48 hours.

The update will be today, within 10 hours.

The phone will never die, due to people like yourself making ROM's. I'm not disputing that. You're obviously a talented developer of sorts, but it mystifies me why you continue to keep (IMO) wasting so much time on ICS and JB when this device will never run anything above GB with enough stability and functionality to be worth keeping. I understand the attraction, but as I've said before, by the time (if ever!) ICS and JB are FULLY working on this device, Android will have long moved on beyond those versions.

Sometimes its best to keep within reasonable limits, and I fear that while amazing work has been done to get ICS and JB to boot and run, they will never ever be complete enough for anyone who doesn't want only a partially working device.

I just can't help feeling you would do well to focus on creating some absolutely amazing GB ROM's rather than flogging this dead horse.

I've started again and I took as much time as possible looking at every line of configuration and merging it in properly.

    Kernel: https://github.com/benjamingwynn/android_kernel_htc_msm7227

As you can see I nuked the JB and ICS branches, and just focused on remaking the jellybean one from ASN's and my own sources.

    I'll get compiling asap.

Building now, if it doesn't compile correctly then I will try and fix it at a later date.
