@bonuzzz
since you asked what I'd really love to see is option 2 with the ability to dual boot Ubuntu.

http://www.usoftsmart.com/t214020.html

This guy at the above address has appeared to have put Ubuntu on his note pro 12.2. Just from reading what he has done I'm a little sketchy on wanting to do this to my machine.

Again thanks for all your hardwork!
This will work with with CM11.0 without needing to use a custom kernel. You will need to toggle permissive mode. You can do it manually or there is an app for this in the play store. Rather than using Complete Linux Installer I recommend Linux Deploy. Much better implementation.

Omnirom and SlimKat now? Cool!

I may play around with them - I use SlimKat on F2FS on my Nexus 7 2012, because without it there's not really much point owning one anymore!

What I'm looking for in a ROM is something which has the pure android experience, completely stripped down of all bloat (minimal applications), decent battery, decent S-PEN support.

Once I get the Play store installed, I can install all my own apps - no need for bloat!

This is for SM-P901 only!!!
Just build new version for SM-P901: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-6nm7Jks0W5OGNNT3pIdjZBNm8/view?usp=sharing
Hope network will appear.
Valera1978, thanks for all your great work! Will you open a thread for the P901 or just keep both P900 and P901 here together? If so, you should update the thread title including both devices and keep the downloads and info on both devices on the first post neat and organized. If not, some folks might miss some of the info all together. Thanks again for making this Tab finally work as Samsung tried and failed:D

Will dicsuss it with bonuzzz. Where are 3 ways:
1: Continue in current thread both devices (or create another)
2: Create (but not sure about it) one firmware for both devices
3: May be tomorrow I'lI put code for P901 on github and somebody will continue builds version for P901 - because I cann't test it.

I'm looking for something more than a VNC run on top of android solution. I would like to have native Ubuntu installed, but also have the choice to boot into CM as well.
If you care about GUI performance then VNC is a no go. You either have to go with running an X Server app which will do all the rendering or (ideally) a virtual terminal which through the use of android framebuffer will paint Linux GUI on top of android. That would give performance very similar to native linux. Just do not expect any sound or gpu acceleration (for those two you may indeed need a native installation after all).

VT is great though. Once you have your input devices setup you're good to go after that (you) can use your linux distribution as per usual. I recommend gnome desktop if you wish to scale the dpi (it has options for that) but I think linux deploy let's you do that natively, experiment a bit.

I think we have reached the phase when we have to decide we will move further. Everyone of us has certain type of using tab. For example, I use this tab at work. I choose stabilty and long battery than performance and bleeding edge features.
At this moment I decide to move from stock to aosp-based firmware. Last two days I tried many custom roms on other tab and found two paths of futher working:
1. port firmware with many mods out-of-box like dirty unicorns
2. choose stable base like cm and omnirom and use xposed and gravitybox for features.
3. return to stock and remove everything there (pessimistic variant:) )
I think we need more rare but more stable builds. For now It some risky to use nightly builds of cm because we have to find to solve new bugs every time, with camera for example.
I have some more ideas about this, but I dont want to publish now. I want to hear your thoughts about strategy of futher development.
Just note, We (Valera and me) can't maintain several roms at the same time.
Please, write your thoughts.
I would love to see a stable base released ... maybe in a kitchen form... that could be used by anyone with the interest and ambition to take the base and cook up something new. We'd get a lot of similar roms but we'd also get the occasional flash of brilliance. I like to open doors for creativity when possible. If this is not feasible a solid, feature rich and stable release , even if its infrequent, would be my suggestion.

Agreed. I wonder why Samsung makes these things so complicated as far as the variants of hardware within the same model family. I live in Hong Kong and it's literally impossible to find any unit that is not the 4G LTE/ Snapdragon 800. Some shady random stores may sell the wi-fi variant, but basically the only model to buy around here is the LTE. I guess because 4G data plans here become so available and affordable, just makes no sense for WiFi only hardware anymore. But it's a shame, because I see most of the development goes into the Exynos hardware, not the Snapdragon, which in fact is so common to so many other units these days. And the 3G variant p 901, that's completely non-existence here. No one cares about 3G here anymore. Its either wifi if one can find a seller that carries it, or just everywhere the LTE model.. and for that, unfortunately, still not an alternative ROM. Samsung ROMs and software have become absolutely unbearable. No wonder their sales are down.. they are totally out of their minds with what they put inside their machines.. and the bloat and add ons keep going up with every new hardware an update.. Its gigs and gigs of absolutely useless crap. XDA rules!

Thank you for your feedback and support!
Last week Valera and me tested many various roms, some of them were published here as preview. As cm build is quite stable now and we dont have full satisfaction with it, we decided to switch our resources to Omnirom. We found more stable and promising. Today we have publish first beta, so I advice you take a look in omnirom thread periodically. I hope we will solve all issues by tne ed of month, but for now it is already quite stable and usable. We dont forget about similar tabs and will publish roms for p901 and t900 soon. Thanks all of you. Your support helps us to forget real life, our works, families. cats... just joking:)

ps: several people have asked in pm about new android for our tab. I dont have any plans to deal with lollipop this year or at least this month.
