This is based on the newest build (3.4.2-164) official French release.
If you come from v5.x or below you have to wipe your phone first and flash the new sbf. Please see the step by step guide below!
Also don't try to use the Blur accounts if you did not flash the MotoApps addon package!
If you want to use the default apps flash the Blur addon package.

README - Step by step flashing guide:
You can go to step 5 if you already flashed 3.4.2-164 SBF, rooted and installed clockwork recovery or have ROM v6.0 or higher.
Don't wipe after you flashed the SPF or the ROM. Also no wipe is needed before or after a ROM update. But wipe
before flashing a new SBF!
1.) Wipe your phone in recovery mode
2.) Flash
3.4.2-164 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite in bootloader mode
(The sbf is packed in a archive just extract it and then you get the sbf.)
3.) Enable ADB in the settings and root your device with
SuperOneClickRoot for Froyo. Then do a reboot.
4.) Disable ADB and install
2ndInit Recovery Installer
5.) Put the ROM.zip to your SD Root and boot into clockwork recovery using 2ndInit boot menu
6.) Flash the ZIP + reboot and enjoy
Important:
Don't be afraid, first boot after flashing the ROM will take some time, because the ROM is full deodexed. Next boot ups will be much faster!
Also never wipe again after flashing the sbf. Only if you want to reflash the sbf, wipe before doing so.
Afterwards just flash the ROM and don't wipe before or after! Also don't wipe if you want to update!
When everything fails:
-If something went wrong and you stuck in a bootloop etc, shutdown the system (if possible) or pull out the battery.
-Go into the system recovery with "vol down + power".
-Then when you see the android update guy press vol down + vol up at the same time.
-Wipe your phone + factory reset.
-Reboot and hold "vol up + power"
-You are now into bootloader mode, reflash the system with RSD Lite and a sbf you like
-Your Defy is back in biz
