Hey guys, so I've finally bought myself a 2nd hand Pixel5 and want to flash a custom rom. Seems, Lineage and Proton are the 2 most popular. I looked at the details of the roms, but just cannot decide. Can you maybe give me a hint, what the main differences are?

If I understood correctly, Proton comes with Android11 and hast lots of additional features, e.g. better ram and battery mgmt, which is nice. Lineage comes with Android12 and may be a bit more stable, which is also very important to me. Hmm..

Proton is also on Android12. This XDA posting is not maintained much by kdrag0n anymore, but his website is great and where you actually install it from anyway

Proton has been great for me since its release two years ago, no regrets. I had only bad experiences installing other kernels over it, so don't do that in my view. Lineage is a long term classic, but I cannot comment on recent Android 12 releases.

Kernel work is basically dead as said by Kdragon himself...I wouldn't expect any new kernel releases unfortunately

The kernel does work with A12 though, I'm using it on my Lineage ROM along with his performance improvements from ProtonAOSP
Ah, I missed that note, makes sense though, thanks. It does install on ProtonAOSP12, but crashed a bunch for me. I just kept with stock ProtonAOSP.

Lineage has some built in features that I like, so I built it myself with Kdrag0ns protonAOSP performance improvements and sandboxed play services.

I'm living the best of both worlds 😁 I also implemented a blurred UI that I'm quite fond of now
Which features of Lineage did you like, that Proton doesn't have?

EDIT: Answering myself after I directly messaged Sewdohe: mainly UI reasons: black/white reading mode, extra dim mode, nav pill hideable.

I installed Proton 12.4.0 via the web installer. Some questions:

1. Why is TWRP not included? In my last custom roms, TWRP was always included in the installer. I always liked it. And I'm having a hard time trying to install TWRP myself under A12.
2. Is the Proton kernel included in this rom version?
3. How to check, if the Proton kernel is installed?

EDIT: Answering myself.
1. I've read that TWRP got quite buggy meanwhile and maybe that's why it's not included in the installer. Just a guess.
2. No.
3. See my post https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-pixel-5-proton-kernel.4194683/post-87084209.

Can anyone explain why my HSBC banking app has completely stopped working with this rom? I'm not running latest version due to issues with magisk but my HSBC app just won't even open anymore it just force closes everytime.

Definitely a rom issue as I have it installed on another phone and it works fine🤷🏼‍♂️

    ProtonAOSP
    Android 11 ROM

ProtonAOSP is a minimal Android fork (custom ROM) focused on UI/UX and performance, with a touch of privacy.

Usage with my Proton Kernel is recommended to get the most out of your phone. The ROM does not include Proton Kernel, so you will need to flash it yourself. The ROM will still work with other kernels, but you will not get the benefits of Proton Kernel.

    Screenshots of the latest version

    Installation
This ROM is currently distributed as factory images, similar to stock. Flash it the same way you would flash stock factory images. Don't forget to wipe all data using "fastboot -w" before booting the ROM.

Firmware is included, so there is no specific requirement for which version of the stock ROM you are coming from.

You can also use the quick & easy web installer, which allows you to install and update the ROM from any computer or phone without using the command line. The installer works entirely within your web browser and completes in as little as 4 minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection. Consider using the web installer instead of installing manually.

Builds with and without minimal Google services (gapps) included are provided for convenience.

Using the quick and easy web installer is recommended unless you have a specific reason to download and install the ROM manually.

A new ROM with the January security update and SafetyNet passing out-of-the-box will be released within a few days. The SafetyNet failures are caused by new updates released by Google yesterday. My new Universal SafetyNet Fix Magisk module solves the problem for now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/magisk-module-universal-safetynet-fix-1-1-0.4217823/
