OUYA isn't any more android than fire TV is, as far as I believe, at least.

OUYA has their own launcher. FireTV has their own launcher. Both will load (almost) any app. It's a bit easier (though not EASY) to side-load the play-store onto the OUYA (not even sure if it's possible on the Fire TV). But at the end of th eday, I have to say, even though I have an Ouya in both my Den, and my Living Room (the "big" screens in the house), my Fire TV in my bedroom runs Kodi way better........ and hoenstly, that's what I use both devices for more than anything else. Streaming my media to those TVs/rooms. And while I had (and i guess maybe still do, even though it's so old) high hopes for the Ouya, i'm much more impressed with the perforamance of the AFTV.

All that being said, i'd still LOVE to see vanilla Android TV on my Ouyas, if they were bug-free :)

Well I wouldn't hold my breathe. I was hoping for big things for the ouya as well but every developer working on it has abandoned it for one reason or another. Like I said shut down the sub forum and stop giving false hope to those still praying for something.

With Ouya signing with that Chinese company (can not remember the name) for 10 million dollars I think we can expect more developer participation because the market has increased tremendously.

While the OP may have abandoned the project, it looks like at least one person (Unjustified Dev) is still semi-working on things as he/she has time. I wouldn't say it's dead yet....
That's because you're too optimistic to see the truth. Sadly the ouya is a failure and no one wants to develop for a failed device

I would sadly agree, seems the company is even selling out as they're not making any money. the device works but is awfully boring in it's stock form. atleast running cm11/kitkat 4.4 does something but it's slower than stock rom.
lollipop/android TV would be it's saviour but it's not happening from the looks of it. mines just collecting dust. my gamestick does a better job of acting vpn/netflix machine so :/
