The hotspot now works without crashing. Screen recorder is still broken but it is also broken on other roms. Screen recorders from the play store work fine.
Great job! Your work and contribution to the community is always appreciated.

Just tried to flash, used twrp to boot to fastbootd mode and followed the instructions, bootloader is unlocked, but the device (sofia) just boots back to fastboot mode, adb sideload also fails. Anyone can give advice?

Thanks for doing this! I was considering switching over to another rom because asineth's hasn't been updated but I'm really glad to see I can stick with LOS for my wife's phone! Hopefully this will lead to it becoming an officially supported phone!

First, I'm not questioning your abilities in any way. You asked for advice.
1.) TWRP is currently not the most stable platform on the g8 family. That is why I'm still on the stock recovery. It just works better. Seriously consider going back to stock.
2.) Is your adb up to date? From other threads, this can be an issue and can cause problems. If in doubt, uninstall and download the latest version you can find.
3.) Try booting into your bootloader without going through TWRP. From your bootloader, try using adb to boot into fastbootd and then follow the guide.
4) Are you coming from stock or another ROM? Your best result will be coming from stock. Consider flashing back to stock if coming from another ROM.

That's the basic things I know that could hang you up. Post back and let us know if this worked.

What about camera? Is it stock app? All lenses working?

Another one, I like gestures. E.g., chopping for flash light and rotating for camera. Will it just work with Moto or some other app?

Does screen cast work ?

booting to stock recovery just shows android logo with "no command" and after some time boots back to fastboot mode. I have succeeded to get into fastbootD only using:
$ fastboot boot twrp.img
$ adb reboot fastboot
When in bootloader mode adb doesnt work, and the device is not shown by:
$ adb devices
"fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target" is the output of:
$ fastboot reboot fastboot
{adb,fastboot} version 9.0.0_p3-r1
I am coming from stock rom...however i tried to flash crdroid first and it also failed, so perhaps that is an issue.
Once in fastbootD mode i have followed the instructions several times:
$ fastboot set_active a
$ fastboot flash boot boot.img
$ fastboot flash system system.img
$ fastboot flash product product.img
$ fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
$ fastboot -w
$ fastboot reboot
However I am returned to regular fastboot mode after seeing the motorola logo and a warning about the bootloader being unlocked...the system doesnt even begin to boot.

When in twrp recovery after command:
$ fastboot boot twrp.img
It asks for password to decrypt data, bypassing with "cancel", and attempt to sideload:
$ adb sideload lineage-17.1-20210329-UNOFFICIAL-sofiar.zip
returns:
adb: sideload connection failed: closed
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method...
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: closed
AND twrp is stuck in sideload mode with error:
E: Unable to get child ID

Hi Vetal_ca,
camera is LineageOS stock. If you install install gcam (from Telegram group) 3/4 lenses works for me. You have to install gcam service provider.

Chopping for flashlight works for me, but I don't use other gestures.

Screen cast I didn'd tested.

I unlocked the bootloader and was able to "fastboot flash boot boot.img", but then when I try to "fastboot flash system system.img" I get:

target reported max download size of 805261312 bytes
sending sparse 'system_a' 1/2 (786384 KB)...
OKAY [ 17.950s]
writing 'system_a' 1/2...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 17.957s

Any thoughts? Mine is the sofia XT2041-4. Thanks in advance.

I flashed TWRP to recovry from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/sofia-p-r-recovery-wip-twrp-3-4-0-0.4128353/
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp_xyz.img

And then flashed images as suggested. It worked for @asineth's ROM, it worked for this one also in my case

Make sure you are in fastbootd and not just fastboot. Also, you may also want to try flashing the product.img prior to system.img.

I'm using the XT2041-4 also and this ROM absolutely installs on it.

This really sounds like an adb issue.
Update your adb/platform tools.

When I use the official tools (instead of the minimal ones) I get the following error on "fastboot flash system system.img":

Resizing 'system_a' FAILED (remote: '')
fastboot: error: Command failed
???????? I am running out of ideas!!
Try to install the product.img before the system.img. I have read where others have had to switch the install sequence around with other roms in order for it to work.

Edit: Before you started, was USB debug enabled in Developer Options?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
error: cannot load 'boot.img': No such file or directory"
What do I do? I already unlocked the bootloader and used "fastboot set_active a"
I am using 3-29-2021-images for the img files

Make sure you unzip all the files in the same folder you're running adb/fastboot from...

    This ROM includes:
    • FDroid
    • FDroidPrivilegedExtension

    Flashing:

    I recommend GNU/Linux for this.

    1. Flash TWRP
    2. Extract the zip and open a shell with ADB and fastboot.
    3. Reboot your device into fastbootd mode.
    Code:
    fastboot reboot fastboot
    4. Flash boot, system, product, and vbmeta.
    Code:
    fastboot set_active a
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system system.img
    fastboot flash product product.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    4. Wipe userdata.
    5CODE]fastboot -w[/CODE]

    If you are on the Moto G8/G Fast and your display cutout is misbehaving, enable your overlay like so:

    Code:
    adb shell cmd overlay enable org.omnirom.overlay.moto.rav

    Update:

    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system system.img
    fastboot flash product product.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    fastboot reboot

    No idea how these files differ, which one do I use or how.

    No idea what this means or why is it important and listed as second most important paragraph.

    Don't know what that means.

    Don't know what `fastbootd` mode is.

    Doesn't work, after reboot the command line says "waiting for any devices". Can't continue.

    Every year I try some Android device and venture to XDA to try some custom ROMs. It never works.
    This is a very stable and well presented ROM. It is also very easy to install.
    I'm not trying to be a ****, but with all the questions you have, you obviously have no idea what you are doing! If other people are successfully installing and using a ROM and you can't, the problem is not the ROM.
    For starters, is your bootloader unlocked? If not, you need to do that before trying anything. If you don't know how, use search.
