Tried moving the 3-29-2021-images folder into minimal adb's program files. Didn't work.

Deleted the images folder from the program files and tried using 7zip to zip the images folder into the minimal adb's program files. Access denied.

Edit: tried moving 3-29-2021-images folder to program files x86, which is where my minimal adb's files are located. Still didn't work.

Now that I think about it, am I not in fastbootD? I used the stock method of powering off my system and using volume-down + power. I do not have TWRP.

My phone currently says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)"

You need to have the 4 .img files sitting in the same folder as adb/fastboot. The easiest way I found to get into fastbootd was to enable USB debugging and connect the phone, then "adb reboot fastboot" from a command line instead of using the keys on the phone.

It worked. Thanks. Should I boot system or product next? I think some user were having problems because of the order.

Edit: tried flashing system as the 2nd flash. It failed.

Update: Both system and product failed the preflash validation.

Update 2: Going to bed and keeping my laptop and phone plugged in.

I flashed TWRP to recovry from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/sofia-p-r-recovery-wip-twrp-3-4-0-0.4128353/
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp_xyz.img

And then flashed images as suggested. It worked for @asineth's ROM, it worked for this one also in my case
that is the twrp image i used to boot to fastbootD with command:
$ fastboot boot twrp.img
$ adb reboot fastboot
the twrp image asks for decryption and the sideload feature doesnt work and also gets stuck in sideload mode.
I am updating adb (android-tools) on gentoo linux to verify that is NOT the issue, and have downloaded stock rom from:
so as to re-flash to stock. Any advice about where to get OFFICIAL stock firmware and flashing process using adb/fastboot ONLY without any .exe or .bat files (as i am running linux) will be appreciated.
I will update you guys once i have updated my full system and will post the version of adb i am using, however i suspect it is quite recent as i run gentoo linux (~amd64 unstable)
I am reluctant to flash TWRP to recovery partition as suggested as I currently have a working fastbootD and DO NOT wish to hard-brick the device.
If it *may* be relevant, i can post output for various commands, returned E:rrors, device|firmware|baseband version, partition info, and anything else which may be relevant.
If there is an IRC channel or *tox group for real-time chat i would be happy to join!

I have been looking at the older replies here and I think I'm not in fastbootd.

I tried using "fastboot reboot fastboot" but it says "fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target fastboot"

How do I get into fastbootd from here?

I'd like to add this:

I tried "adb reboot fastboot" but it says "
adb server version (32) doesn't match this client (39); killing...
* daemon started successfully
error: no devices/emulators found"
I downloaded these things yesterday when I first tried to get Lineage on my phone

Edit: looked through the devices section at twrp.me and I can't find anything for moto g8 power.

You need to update adb|fastboot to latest versions, AND use the twrp.img from the thread

I'm using something called "minimal adb and fastboot"

I already have someting that computer calls "platform-tools-r31.0.1-windows" and it has an adb and fastboot on it, but I don't know how to use it. The minimal one has a desktop icon I can use to acess it but platform tools does not.

Edit: just downloaded the twrp image file onto my computer

You need to update adb|fastboot to latest versions, AND use the twrp.img from the thread
SO, to be clear, *ASSUMING YOU HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER* what you need to do ( so far ) is:
1) download the lineageos*.zip and twrp*.img as shown above in the thread.
2) move them to the directory that you plan to use adb|fastboot from
3) install latest verson of adb and fastboot *in the same directory* you have placed the above
4) unzip the lineageos zip ( take note that the *.img files are in a sub-directory )
5) use the hardware keys to enter fastboot (NOT fastbootD)
6) once in fastboot:
> fastboot boot twrp.img
7) once in twrp:
> adb reboot fastboot
8) once in fastbootD *AND* in the directory containing {boot, product, system, vbmeta}.img:
""" The syntax is 'fastboot flash <partition> [ <filename> ]' where '<partition>' is a partname and '<filename>' is an arbitrary name that in this case is the *matching* one of the *.img files. """
> fastboot set_active a
> fastboot flash boot boot.img
> fastboot flash system system.img
> fastboot flash product product.img
> fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
> fastboot -w
> fastboot reboot

you will want to use adb and fastboot from the CMD....you can EITHER "cd" to the directory where adb is installed OR add the directory to the PATH variable

It is best to use the most recent android*SDK in the case of windows

that android "platform-tools-r31.0.1-windows" is the latest...you need to make sure it is in your PATH variable and use it from the CMD.

here is a video on adding to PATH ( or search in your lang ):

Where do I download the latest adb and fastboot? I tried using adb reboot fastboot in twrp and replaced the adb and fastboot files of "minimal adb and fastboot" with the ones from platform tools I have on my PC beforehand and it's still outdated.
Edit: took a long time to reply nd did not see yours
Edit 2: I'm taking a break, see you and the video in an hour maybe.

My phone currently says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)"
fastbootD says "fastbootd" in BIG RED TEXT at the top of the screen...so if you are not sure if you are in fastbootD mode, then you are NOT

I added the "platform-tools-r31.0.1-windows" to my path. What do I do next to use it in cmd?

Note: The folder itself is just called "platform-tools"

    This ROM includes:
    • FDroid
    • FDroidPrivilegedExtension

    Flashing:

    I recommend GNU/Linux for this.

    1. Flash TWRP
    2. Extract the zip and open a shell with ADB and fastboot.
    3. Reboot your device into fastbootd mode.
    Code:
    fastboot reboot fastboot
    4. Flash boot, system, product, and vbmeta.
    Code:
    fastboot set_active a
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system system.img
    fastboot flash product product.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    4. Wipe userdata.
    5CODE]fastboot -w[/CODE]

If you are on the Moto G8/G Fast and your display cutout is misbehaving, enable your overlay like so:

    Code:
adb shell cmd overlay enable org.omnirom.overlay.moto.rav

    Update:

    Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system system.img
    fastboot flash product product.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    fastboot reboot

    Working:
    • Display
    • Touchscreen
    • Wi-Fi
    • Bluetooth (including audio)
    • Headphones via 3.5mm
    • Internal Speaker
    • Moto Actions
    • Calls/SMS/LTE/VoLTE on Verizon
    • GPS
    • Notification LED
    • Hotspot

    Bugs:
    • After turning hotspot off, phone reboots
    • Inbuild screen recording app broken, phone reboots

No idea how these files differ, which one do I use or how.

No idea what this means or why is it important and listed as second most important paragraph.

    Don't know what that means.

Don't know what `fastbootd` mode is.

Doesn't work, after reboot the command line says "waiting for any devices". Can't continue.

Every year I try some Android device and venture to XDA to try some custom ROMs. It never works.
This is a very stable and well presented ROM. It is also very easy to install.
I'm not trying to be a ****, but with all the questions you have, you obviously have no idea what you are doing! If other people are successfully installing and using a ROM and you can't, the problem is not the ROM.
For starters, is your bootloader unlocked? If not, you need to do that before trying anything. If you don't know how, use search.
