On the phone that has problems with the SIM card: I did a fresh reinstall or RR, and the problem persists. I did a fresh install of Arrow, and the problem persists.

Most likely a factory defect, but it seems like this "phone" is really a small "tablet" with no warranty after unlocking the bootloader :/

Anyway, Arrow is properly checking ADB keys, so I'll be checking that out. As it is, that's a BIG flaw in this build of RR, and it's pushing me away.

Anyone know how to decrypt my phone? I tried to reflash it and the phone still will not boot into the rom because I guest the /data partition is still encrypted:

[email protected]:~/Backup/Android_Roms/sophia/HavocOS_4.6-VANILLAFastbootD$ fastboot -w
wiping userdata...
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported.
erasing 'userdata'...
OKAY [ 0.595s]
finished. total time: 0.595s

I installed twrp but I cannot do anything because data is encrypted. I tried everything I could find online including formating the data partition but I am still getting errors.

Was on 11. Flashed to stock 10 and it started to work but now I get:

Another problem I'm having here - Trying to get the SIM card working for mobile data, and seeing "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".

Short version: I can't get the SIM card working for data or SMS.

This seems to be a weird Android problem affecting different phones going back to at least 2015, without any consistent fix.

I tried one other good/working SIM, and a handful of older SIMs, and they all had the same problem.

Between this and not checking the ADB key, I'm looking for other ROMs now. Otherwise, I was enjoying how this was up and running well with micro-G.

So what exactly is the problem? You have to add your mobile providers APN's there, one for data and one for mms usually. They should be provided somewhere on your telecoms website, or call em up, its pretty simple.

Hey, this is a nice ROM been using a while, but I think you should update your main post with the google links and add the latest version there because the last one available is from February and rarely do people browse through the entire thread hoping to find sporadic links to updated versions uploaded elsewhere, it just doesn't make much sense.

Don't mean to disrespect your work or anything, I really do like it but it's just a weird thing I've noticed, I could of had the newer security fixes sooner.

Anyway I'm about to flash version 8.7.9 with May patch over my 8.6.7, wish me luck.

P.S. - I'm pretty tech savvy, would you be able to teach me how I can add security patches and things like that to the build files and compile them so I can do things like this myself on my favorite roms?
Hey!
Where can I find version 8.7.9 please show me
Thanks

The problem is, it's not possible to add any APNs. But after testing with a few ROMs, it seems like a hardware problem.

Question: Are you guys able to format external sd cards as internal storage? I'm not able to get this option in storage settings the way you usually would. All I am able to do is press format as portable storage, no option for internal.

Answer: I was able to get the option working by using a adb su shell command "sm set-force-adoptable true". Seems its just disabled by default.

Weird. 🤔 You did the correct steps and still don't see the rom booting? Were you on Android 10 before you flashed RR? From what I'm seeing you didn't do fastboot -w after flashing so maybe that's the issue.

I did do a fastboot -w, but I think I missed that in my post.

I was on the latest Android 11 patch from Motorola before trying to flash the phone. Not sure if that might have something to do with it.

Code:
>fastboot -w
Erasing 'userdata' OKAY [ 0.759s]
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported.
Erasing 'metadata' OKAY [ 0.011s]
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported.
Finished. Total time: 0.801s

Hah, I knew it. You need to be on the A10 firmware to use twrp and custom roms and thus you need to downgrade using the Moto flash tool by vache. There's another thread in the question and answer section I think about this and the link to the tools/info you need. You can also join the Telegram group Moto G8 Family| Official for more info and help with this and many other things.

I installed twrp but I cannot do anything because data is encrypted. I tried everything I could find online including formating the data partition but I am still getting errors.
Temporarily convert the filesystem to something else, then convert back again. If it's currently ext4, temporarily convert to f2fs then back again. The encryption will be gone.

Install the stock recovery.img if you have previously installed twrp.

    1. Extract the zip to your adb/fastboot directory, reboot to bootloader and open a CMD window.
    2. Reboot your device into fastbootd mode.

    Code:
    fastboot reboot fastboot

    3. Flash boot, system, product, and vbmeta images.

    Code:
    [/B][/B][/CENTER]
    [B][CENTER]fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system system.img
    fastboot flash product product.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

    4. Wipe userdata.

    Code:
    fastboot -w

    5. Reboot, Profit.
    (OPTIONAL)
    6. If you want to install TWRP/gapps/magisk, do so after you continue through the installation steps to the home screen.

If you have the Moto G8/G Fast and your display cutout is not right, enable the overlay via ADB:

    Code:

    1. Starting screen casting/mirroring causes a reboot.

    2. The in-built screen recorder also causes a reboot when started.

Dodgy Screen Recorder Fix : Download and install the attached apk below, change the quick setting tile to the new one at the bottom of the list, and you should be able to record. (Its the screen recorder app from BlissRom, nothing malicious ;) )

    3. Let me know :good:

If you have a major bug to report that has not been reported already, please take the following steps to report it to us. It will save you, Team Resurrection Remix and me quite some time.

Download the MatLog app from the Play Store.
After downloading the MatLog app, go to the app settings, and change the log level to Debug.
Clear all previous logs and take the exact steps to produce the error you are receiving. As soon as you receive the error (probably a force close), go straight into MatLog and stop the log recording.
Copy and paste the entire log either to Hastebin or Pastebin
Save the log, and copy and paste the link into the thread with a brief description of the error.

Not sure if this helps but I have XT2041-4_SOFIA_RETUS_10_QPMS30.80-63-6-8-3_
Update 2: I was able to go back to stock rom by first using
"fastboot set_active a" command man what a headache lol

Great! I just realised myself and edited my comment.

So Fastbootd is for flashing custom ROMs and
Fastboot is for flashing the stock firmware and unlocking bootloader etc...
