[ROM][RK3066/RK3188][SD/HD] Factory firmware - share place link with all

@dsa8310 I have a quick query if you'd be so kind.

I'm using what I think is the latest 4.4.4 ROM you released for the MTCB RK3188. I'm using the firmware tools to try to remove as much bloat as possible from the original unit (including all Google Play Services). However, it seems to break a few things and I wonder if you could answer one or two questions I have.

If I strip out all of the Google Play services (gmscore.apk etc) I seem to lose the auto-brightness functionality via install_recovery.sh. Does this script depend on the Google Location service or simply GPS data?

Once I've finished stripping apps out, I seem to lose root access (despite superuser.apk being present).

I've attached screenshots of what I've stripped out. Anything here I should definitely be keeping to maintain core functionality? I have resigned apk's of the Google Play apps that I use so I have no need for the Play store or any other Google apps.

Does anyone know how to install google maps (Maps.apk from lollipop version not google play one) on my DSA's lollipop latest rom?
I tried:
copying maps folder to system app
installing this apk
but at the end I always get that there has been a mistake and that I have to reinstall.
Why I want this version? Because it's less ram friendly and also quicker and smaller app.

Maps.zip is the maps folder you'd need. You don't have to install anything, after placing it in /system/app/. Whether I had erased something else related to it, I can no longer recall (I don't think so).

I tried this before but was changing permissions so I probably messed up something, now I just copied and reboot and it worked, thank you!

Oh my God.

Thank you so much for pointing out the obvious! The RK3188 firmware tools I was using was resetting the permissions to 0644 on everything in /system. Manually changed the permissions on the unit itself via Root Browser and the script executed perfectly - brightness worked as did the early start of the mtcservice.

I can try to help, What make is the unit and if you recall, what version or date. GS, JY, KGL, KLD, RM. etc

Ok i download and i test ( JY_4.4.4_800x480_150415_root ) .. But is my step correct? You have to paste the image in the micro SD, and insert the GPS location , Then in the menu as in the picture choose Update ??

Yes, the filename is update.ing and it goes into the root directory of the microSD card. Not in any folders.
Also I think you might have a RK3066 device and not a RK3188 device.. Dual Core vs Quad Core.

I wish you went into the "about device" and recorded all the info and into Factory Setup and recorded that info.
That the very 1st steps before you do anything...

Alex, You have a RK3066 not a RK3188 I do not think @dsa8310 will work with 3066's. You need to find this out from him.
Since its a 3066, you need 3066 image at 800x480 and either 4.2.2 or maybe 4.4.4 will work.

Yes, 4.4.4 will work, @dsa8310's earlier images are all on the fileserver.
