I don't know. I am using Malaysks rom since I got the radio and I don't want to install the stock rom, because there is option for a Nandroid Backup.
Ok, we'll if someone here still has the stock firmware could maybe check to see if it works. The Chinese manufacture probably removed the codec from the device, most modified roms are based on stock OS from that manufacturer as this version of android is Very basic.

Installation Instructions:

1) Settings - Backup&Reset - Factory data reset - Put a tick on Erase SD card - Reset machine
2) Install the ROM from inside the Recovery and clear data or from inside the ROM Settings> About machine> System update (clean data)
3) Go to Recovery - The second paragraph from the bottom - Wipe data
4) after reboot Settings - Backup&Reset - Factory data reset AGAIN
5) Reinstall the ROM AGAIN

If you have any problem repeat step 4 and 5 again and check your ROM Download.

Notes:
Check: Go to Settings - Partition Info (second paragraph from the bottom) and a section view DATA - It should be the size of 1.96 GB
Activate Xposed Module by installing it.
How to enter Recovery: Each unit is different, please search the forum for that
1) If you have Physical button/knobs: usually Holding the Power button or knob as soon as the system turns on will get you to Recovery (you can select items in Recovery by press and HOLDing the Power)
2) If Touch Buttons: Put something thin and press and hold the Reset button as the Unit turns on (you can select items in Recovery by press and HOLDing the reset)
Are we sure this is exact for every head unit? Followed 1-5 and the firmware updated, but I do not see a "DATA" in the Partition Info at all.

If You already a FUSE ROM user, than You don't need to do a wipe. Just do a simple update ... But, in this case You also need re-activate some feature, like Xposed framework, PCV ....

I went from the stock rom on the Joying 10.1 to the latest Malak firmware following the above steps

Yeah, at first time, must do all steps, carefully, explain as readable at the first page. Wrote the author, Malaysk ...
It looks like it went successfully. I have the Malak mod, Xposed framework, PCV, etc. I just don't have a "Data" section at all in the Partition info, which the directions said should be checked to make sure it changed from 1GB to 2GB. I'm assuming that my model headunit does not supposed to have a Data section, or something is amiss.

Just followed the directions and mine has no "DATA" section either. Did you resolve the issue? Which Joying model are you using?
That's because this FW uses FUSE and it doesn't has separate DATA partition, instead it uses whole internal memory - Internal_SD. So it's OK.

BTW, what is PCV? It's some kind of autostart utility? Which options has to be enabled in PCV and why?

Does the stock firmware have this codec and work with android auto.

Hi bsavoir22 and alex1301

I can confirm that the stock Joying firmware does NOT support this. My system is a rk3188 1024x600 and I have tested with stock and Malaysk ROM and both crash identically, and the same way alex1301 described it.

It seems raw H.264 support across many systems including windows is not so good. It looks like the support in android improved in 4.4 but these chinese head units use a stripped version of Android. For example, no lock screen, no multi user support, etc, all standard in 4.4. If Malaysk can find the raw H.264 API from a full 4.4 and integrate it, then it should work, depending on the right h/w integration. I believe my unit is Mali400 GPU.

I would really like to get Mike's Headunit app to run, as I can not get the Easy Connected app to run reliably, no matter what I do.

It seems easy connect is hit or miss with the units after a complete reflash. I know the processor supports it and there are tablets that use the mali400 gpu that also support the codec. We'll have to wait and see.

Any chance you could post a md5? The rk3188 1024x768 rom is not working. I have downloaded it and extracted it more than once. It isn't detected as a valid update.img file for me. I am using your march 9th release currently.

cheers

Malaysk, great update.

Just because a lot of people are asking, once you have a FUSE version of the rom installed update like this:
1. Download new FUSE rom.
2. Unrar the .img file to microSD.
3. Insert card into GPS slot.
4. Navigate to settings, About Machine, System Updates.
5. Do not check box to wipe.
6. Press ok.

System will reboot into recovery and install upgrade, then reboot and you are good to go.

Did u managed to get 4G usb dongle work? Where did buy it from
Make sure you go to PPP Widget 1 forum and check which ones are compatible. In the US I am using the E3276-s500 and I cloned the IMEI of the phone I got for free on the modem and I get unlimited 4G LTE. Not sure which one works on UK.
