5) wipe data

6) wipe cache

7) wipe dalvik cache (advanced -> wipe dalvik cache)

8) format boot (mounts and storage -> format boot)

9) format system (mounts and storage -> format system)
arn't these steps obsolete?
when i wipe data/factory reset i can see it formats all those things:

formatting /data
formatting /cache
formatting /sd-ext
formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...

When he says Wipe data thats factory data reset then you need to wipe cache. It does not format the boot nor the system. You still need to do that. Following these steps makes sure you have a clean wiped system and that nothing is hanging around. Truly what is the big deal an extra few steps. This was common practice with the G1/MT3G/Slide heck with most Android phones. Trust me its better when you wipe everything fresh when you are flashing a rom even if you are coming from the same style just upgrading.

DON'T SKIP ANY STEPS !!!!!

(while it is technically mostly believed that wiping data wipes the cache, it's been debated whether it wipes dalvik, it does not format the boot or system and certainly not format the actual sdcard which is optionally recommended...and it DEF never hurts to clear the cache more than once)

DON'T SKIP ANY STEPS !!!!!

Been running for about 10 minutes. Its fast and smooth, liking it a lot. Battery life is awesome. lol

.... I love when people post about battery life after 10 minutes of running a rom.

crickets yo. what gives?

(downloading now)

I'm curious about battery life in this version. For whatever reason, I was plagued with not so cool battery life with RG1.2 and the latest (as of last night) build of SA kernel.

I switched back to CM7rc2 and new faux that came out today and after 4 hours, the battery life was noticeably better for my phone and my setup.

I'm eager to try 1.3. Would just like to hear if the people that noticed the battery drain as I did, see an improvement.

Finally :D Time to flash. Btw does dumfuqs kernel work with this?

Sent from my MT4G running CM7 :D

it should .. but in my very humble opinion - you'd be a raving inbred lunatic to use anything but the kernel that's included

..but it's YOUR phone so, by all means, have your way with it

it's my experience that this pretty much happens to all of us flash-addicts once in a while .. i believe it's usually due to either

A) just a bad take on the ROM/kernel (some bit or piece from a previous kernel/ROM got left behind somewhere on the device or SD or just some isolated partially wonky install...almost all of this should be completely eliminated by following the installation instruction on the OP)

or

B) your battery doesn't know which end is up from all the flashing and it's time for a drain down to 1% / wipe battery stats / charge (ideally while off) back to 100% calibration cycle

if everything is functioning as it should - you should most definitely be seeing VERY good battery performance from this ROM on any version.

especially the latest :D

I second this! I'm hoping that 1.3 battery life is better than 1.2. RC2's battery life is far and beyond better than 1.2's.

So far so good. Version 1.3 seem pretty fast and I have not encounter any issues yet other than not having my Genius app, but I can either suck it up and use it or go back to royalglacier. Thank you so much for bringing us such a great ROM.

Thanks for the advice.

I wiped for both version exactly as the OPs stated...SD card and all for each

I did the batt cal cycle you suggested with the last RG release with SM kernel. Actually, I did it twice as another post said to do. I did NOT wipe batt stats for installation of CM7 and Faux 2.10.

I'll ride RG1.3 for the weekend and see if the battery life improves over what I was getting with 1.2. It's really more of an OCD thing with the battery anyway. I can't remember the last time I was stuck without a charger and AC to plug in to.

I was being very overly-harsh/sarcastic to make a humorous point.

Dumbfuq's kernel was and still is awesome. However, last I checked, it hasn't been updated in a long time.

Faux has released like seventy-eleven updates since the last dumbfuq update and Faux's kernels are specifically built and tailored to these ROMs .. every single tweak and adjustment and feature he's built in and made to his kernels are all done seeking the optimal balance of speed/performance AND battery life.

He's got the latest core kernel versions (several versions ahead of the other kernels) for CM7, he's got all the latest/updated drivers from HTC for wifi, video, usb, bluetooth, battery, optical trackpad, camera, sound, AND screen/touchpad. The compiler is optimized for these ROMs and our phones, the file system components are all up to date and newer, the DMA engine is all tweaked and adjusted, the CPU frequency and voltage tables are all updated and optimized, there are additional governors available in Fauxs, he's adjusted the sampling rates and every other aspect of the governors, especially smartass to perform at it's highest potential, he built in a BFQ/IO scheduler, he's built in a SLAB allocator w queue for the speediest kind of memory allocation possible on a linux based system.......

.....shall I keep going?
