Thanks for the answer!

I have another question for which the answer may be the same; but, I'm not sure.

I added three e-mail accounts and placed three corresponding shortcuts on the home page (I'm not sure if that is the correct terminology). When I get new mail, the shortcut icons don't show how many unread e-mails I have. Moreover, if I have receive e-mails in more than one of the accounts, the notification only indicates that I have new mail in 2 or 3 accounts (whichever is the case at the time).

I assume this is a function of the e-mail app that is included in this ROM (which I assume is the standard Gingerbread e-mail app). I want to be clear that I am not criticizing what was included in the ROM. I love the ROM -- thanks to the developers!!!! -- so I am going to keep it on my myTouch 4G; but, I would like to replace its e-mail app with whatever e-mail app I had with the stock ROM that would indicate in each shortcut icon how many unread e-mails I had in the corresponding e-mail account. Is that possible? If so, how do I do that?
there are different ways to accomplish this .. sms unread count is one app that will make an icon for you that will show you unread counts on sms and mail. also, both launcherpro and ADW (with the add on app - ADW notifier) show you unread icon counts also ... not totally positive about the it differentiating between multiple accounts within the same mail program but you may find something on the market that meets your need .. (for example, gmail label notifier or something similar allows you to setup different icons and/or labels that will alert you independently, etc. but that's just for gmail as far as i know)

Yeah I did. I came from cm7 nightlies, and ever since I flashed to this rom it's been giving me problems with flash.

did you do a full wipe before you flashed RoyalGinger? (including data)

if you came from nightlies #29 + , they are having some real video issues right now. i have not had any video issues myself with flash or otherwise.

so if i were you i'd do a full wipe (even if you already did, sometimes i will wipe x2 or x3 just to make sure it got everything...sometimes cwm recovery is not 100% on this stuff) and reflash the ROM ... make sure you follow ALL steps carefully on OP on how to flash this ROM and you should be OK

So does wifi calling exist on this ROM? Never had a reason to use it before but I am down south and have no signal at all, but great wifi. I don't see a wifi calling app like I did on the stock ROM. Someone help me out?

yeah, there's a couple minor orientation/rotation bugs in the new android gingerbread 2.3.3 stock launcher ..

i'm working on an update now ... hopefully i'll be able to find a fix for these couple orientation hiccups ..

another alternative - A FEW have had issues with these 3rd party launchers - but I personally have zero issues and love ADW EX with this ROM. I get added customization (custom screen transitions if you want them, homescreen gesture support..BIG for me..i can lock the homescreen into portrait, custom icons, custom docks, notification icons for SMS, phone, & gmail (via adw notifier), you can change your # of rows and/or columns on homescreens to fit more or less icons/widgets ... it's got a great backup/restore utility so if you flash new ROMs and have to full wipe often (like daily for me) this thing can restore your homescreens/icon/app configuration with the push of a button (all but widgets, those you can to do manually, but most of those have backup/restore capabilities within them for their settings and such) ... among many other options ...

I know a couple guys who really like launcher pro also ...

if you have titanium (everyone who's rooted should) - you can easily 'freeze' the stock launcher2 if you start using one of these 3rd party launchers so that you don't have multiple launchers running in the background.

i'm also planning to rebuild the baseline to the latest CM7 so that we've got the newest video and other drivers (as well as faux's newest kernel..only compatible with nightly #29 and forward) .. however they are having some funky video issues right now and i wanted to roll all of this into one update so i'm kind of laying low and keeping my eye on what's going on in CM world so that I don't rebase on something that isn't stable.

ya, it's there.

wi-fi calling..should be at the bottom of your apps in the apps drawer

it's def bundled in the ROM

weird, maybe uninstall flash player, reboot into recovery, wipe both caches, then reinstall flash from the market

REMINDER: EVERYONE - PLEASE USE YOUR SEARCH BUTTONS IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION/ISSUE BEFORE POSTING ON THE THREAD!!

This thread is up to about 100 pages now and chances are - it has been asked before. and more often than not - answered before. This helps us cut down on unnecessary duplicate posts, the overall size of these massive threads, and also the MANY hours a week that myself and other team members (as well as other loyal community members) put into maintaining these threads and trying to make sure everyones devices are running as smoothly as possible! :D:D

k, looks like it's 'teach a man to fish' day ... here we go ...

these links below are basically the equivalent to you pushing the search button and entering the phrase that I've typed ... good practice for next time :D

<<EDIT - sorry the search links appear to be expiring, just click the 'SEARCH THIS THREAD' button at the top of this thread and enter the keyword that I entered and follow my instructions from there for answers to these questions!>>

I've been having a strange issue lately where when I wake my phone up, the lock screen appears, except it's upside down and the phone is frozen.

Any ideas?
Search for keyword 'froze' .. look at my response 3 posts down with fixes

is there a way to turn off auto rotate for the home screen?
Search for keyword 'rotate homescreen' .. click on my post at the bottom / 3 down .. and also the other posts on that page that pulls up after clicking on that initial post

Do I need to use setcpu to use the smartass governor like it says in the OP or can I just use the integrated cm CPU settings? Do people find they get the best battery life with smartass? I am not overclocking

Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Search for keyword 'setCPU' .. from this results page, go to page 2, should be the 4th one down, by me, titled 'setCPU QUESTIONS (AND ANSWERS!)'

PS - brian and a couple others I've seen mention this - I have always gotten the best battery and performance balance with smartass gov left at default settings (see my setcpu questions and answers post for more details on that) ... the only thing ive heard of where i believe someone credible said they were getting better or similar results was on min/max governor with profiles enabled (for different battery levels, screen on/off, etc.)

but for me personally, I use smartass with no profiles, default settings (1.1gHz max / 245hx min)

hope this helps everyone....

as always, happy flashing!

:D

Thanks ckisgen,

Hopefully it's a CM7/Kernel issue, because I'm already using ADW Ex as a launcher. I'll try updating to a newer Faux kernel and see how it goes.

ROM is absolutely excellent.

thank you for the compliment on the ROM.

did you follow the link and view the post with the fixes for the freezing/upsidedown screen issue?

that didn't really have anything to do with ADW ... i was posting that for someone else that wanted to disable the homescreen from rotating landscape ... i never heard back from most of the people that were saying their phones were freezing before , but i know those two fixes stopped the issue for my private test group ... it should work for you as well (it was only happening on a small minority of peoples phones to begin with)

BTW / FYI - FAUX'S NEWEST KERNEL V2.2 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ROYALGINGER AT THIS TIME!! that is only compatible with the newest CM nightlies ... the most recent faux kernel for this ROM is v2.1.5 .. i'm running it on mine as I type this and it's rock solid. (i posted just a few posts back that we're planning on updating to the newest CM baseline shortly, but until then make sure you don't flash fauxs v2.2 kernel onto this ROM!

just thought I'd mention, I'm so hooked on this rom that after my most recent switch back I deleted all the other back ups I have on the phone. (was keeping .zips for rc2.1 royal mint, the 1.4 and 1.4.1 royal ginger, and three or four CM builds on the sd root just in case, but now only 1.4 and 1.4.1 Royal Ginger)

May not sound like a lot but that's a huge step for me, I was WAY addicted to CM. This is seriously the rom I was meant to run! Thanks guys, you rock!

quick question

If i install after full wipe (fastboot erase system -w plus OP suggestions, minus SD card) set everything the way I want, nandroid backup. then install a different rom (in this case I tried out Royal Mint) following the same cleaning procedure described above. Decide I don't like it/have issues, and re-install the nandroid of Royal Ginger, is there going to be residual from Royal Mint left over or does it clean everything back to before?

Long phrased question I know, but I'm curious. The nandroid ran sorta twitchy so I just rewiped everything totally and fresh installed. better safe than sorry, but I was curious.

Thanks again for the great rom!

Quick question, do texts make the phone vibrate on royal glacier? I don't remember cause I went to CM7 but the fact that my phone doesn't vibrate for notifications is bugging the hell out of me...

The main question I had was if I even need to use setcpu. I also use the default profiles so there is really no need for me to have it. I have smartass set from the cm performance settings and I was wondering if that works...just curious so I don't even have to download setcpu. If that makes any sense :)

THIS was the post I was trying to lead you to from my other post ... however, I think the search link that I posted for your particular questions got screwed up somehow...

I believe that technically, you are supposed to be able to use the CWM restore from nandroid feature without having to do a full wipe first. However, unless I'm in a pinch/hurry, I usually do a full wipe anyway.

And as I've spent more and more time flashing, reflashing, restoring nandroids, etc. day in and day out - my experience is that CWM is not 100% in anything it does (nothing usually is) .. and these days, I like to do a full wipe and flash whatever ROM I want to use fresh (even if I have a nandroid 'just in case' of it). Most of the more setup intensive apps/widgets pretty much all have their own internal backup/restore at this point and I use ADW EX as my launcher so that restores my desktop configuration in an instant.

I just have a much cleaner experience overall doing it that way than restoring nandroids. I seem to have little quirky bugs here and there when I restore. Def not every time and, usually even when I do - they're small and overall insignificant...usually just minor annoyances.

But most of this stuff is kind of whatever you find works well for you and your particular phone. Some people swear by restoring nandroids and not wiping and having no issues.

Hope that helps..
