Install the new launcher you want to use then use root explorer to rename the original launcher. Done.

still has the gingerbread dialer. I really hate that dialer and would really have liked to see an integrated phone dialer similar to MIUI or HTC that has the contacts built in with search features and quick search and dial..
The dialer is my only real hangup with gingerbread. I found an app that has somewhat helped me get over it though. Try "Google Gestures". It's free on the market, and an easy way to sort through your contacts.

mmmm, thats some good gingebread. I love the stock feel it has. I love how smooth it runs. If adw ran as smooth as this I would probably use it.
ADW ex runs as smooth for me if not even faster if you tweak it right ... not sure about just plain ol' ADW as i never liked that enough to leave it on my phone. ex is the shiz though.

you might also try settings > royalginger settings > performance > then enable 'lock home in memory' .. reboot and see if that helps speed up adw at all to your liking.

**** ALSO ****
(this is necessarily directly in response to your post but reminded me of something i meant to post earlier when i first released)

- my general recommendation to everyone so that you can really see how fast this puppy is launcher wise - is to either A) turn off all animations in settings > display > animation > no animations .. disable the screen on and off animations (which should be off via 'no animations' in display settings anyway but this is found in royalginger settings / display) then go into spare parts and make sure both window and transition animations are set to off ... then press the home button and tear thru the screens, open/close apps, the drawer, multi-tasking from one app to another, etc.

OR

if that's too boring for you

leave the animations on in settings > display and just make sure spare parts window and transition animations are set to fast and turn off the screen off/on animations

i'm pretty sure they made these transition and window animations just to dress up the time it took the device to give you what you wanted (aka open the app, close to app, etc) but now these things are actually holding back the ROM/device because it's capable of near instant call up on just about every normal system type process or app you can throw at it

also, the more of these animations and such that you turn off - the better on battery it is :D

..but hey - at the end of the day it's YOUR phone and this thing is already so blazing fast and battery performance is so over the top compared to just about everything else out there - that's there's nothing stopping you from keeping as many animations on as you want. it'll still prob be the most silky smooth / responsive ROM you can find right now (with incredible battery life for most on top of that!)

... just wanted to throw that out there for those who like their amps to go to 11 like me

:D :D

on 1.5, still getting a strange freeze occasionally when waking the phone. I use my trackpad to wake, and my locked display will be upside down and frozen. I'm using ADW Ex locked to portrait, if that matters.

Anyone else experience this or know a fix?

Thanks!

guys ... also i'm going to be coming out with either a patch or an update to v1.5 sometime real soon ... with everything that went down during the 48 hours or so leading up to the release a couple of days ago, I kind of rushed that last build out just so you guys weren't left standing around with your viennas in your hands forever

even though the previous eleventy skillion working builds got tested like crazy, the final release version only got to be tested for an hour or two. and so many things play off of one another in the background with all these various systems and hacks going on constantly that even if you've tested everything for weeks, you can go in and make one seemingly insignificant change and set off a butterfly effect chain of weirdness that would make Ashton Kutcher blush

long story long, i've already tightened up some screws on my build and am trying out a couple of other different ideas/tweaks and am going to see which one has the best impact over at least a couple day period of time or so .. mainly looking at what kind of an effect these various setups have on battery life and such. (which can only be done over the course of a day or two .. or more)

Im getting really unreliable radio signal. 3g and even edge. Every 2 hours it gives me an X as no signal. Rebooting is a must. I even deleted the apns and made one thats in the FAQs. Same problem. It used to be stable before this rom. Help? :/

Not sure on that one... aside from the expected speed slowdowns from being an aosp rom (they all have it... all aosp roms).... I have had no issues with signal dropping.

Can you get a logcat if it dropping so we can see what is going on?

Thanks so much for this ROM CK. Only problem I encounter is my data connection. Sometimes it.goes gray up top meaning I'm not synced to Google. I have to log in through gtalk for it to work. But it happen s only like once or twice a day. Usually it happens after I end a phone call. I even had to reboot once because I just completely lost connection where I always have connection. Never had this problem on 1.4.1 so I don't know if I just need a reflash?

on 1.5, still getting a strange freeze occasionally when waking the phone. I use my trackpad to wake, and my locked display will be upside down and frozen. I'm using ADW Ex locked to portrait, if that matters.

Anyone else experience this or know a fix?

Thanks!

i've posted on this many times including just a page or two back ..

a) i'm really shocked it's occurring at all for anyone on v1.5 because it looked like faux had nailed down the source and had it fixed in his last couple/few rounds of kernels ... and also - i've got a tester on the team who has one of these small percentage of mystery devices that will freeze/lock like this .. and he's pretty much able to get it to do it on cue ... and he wasn't able to get his to freeze on the last couple of tests builds no matter what

but after spending A LOT of time troubleshooting and investigating and putting together any common threads i can on this here's what's up as far as i understand it at THIS point (which is as well or better than anyone else in this area as far as i can tell) :

it is a weird magical combination of:

- screen on/off animations

- waking and/or unlocking the device

- certain kernels (esp. fauxs .. likely since his are super high performance and highly tuned/tweaked .. it appears that it brings out weaknesses on a small number of devices that may not normally be uncovered if we weren't trying to make it perform at such a high level)

- what i'm pretty sure is a weaker chipset (or some other unknown moving part on the hardware side) in a handful of you guys devices (this is almost certain since seemingly 90+% of us or more can't even MAKE our phones do this no matter how hard we try and completely mirror your setup/chain of events, etc.

SO ---- all that said .. here is what has worked for the couple of people I've found that would actually send me logcats, follow instructions, and stay in communication with me in the past from when this popped up on earlier builds :

1) for v1.5 - i'd like ANYONE who's experiencing these issues to try and flash faux's 2.4.4 kernel (DOWNLOAD IT HERE) and let me know if that helps or stops it by itself

(flash the new kernel this way : first, turn off 'set on boot' in setcpu if you are using it...download the kernel, put it on your SD card, reboot into recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions, install/flash the kernel zip file , reboot, SETTLE 5 min upon initial bootup, reboot, SETTLE another 5 mins, now go into setcpu if you are using it and hit menu, autodetect speeds, hit ok etc., you can re-enable set on boot...finished)

-- if it still occurs --

2) set your minimum clock speed to at least 368hz

2b) alternately you could also set the gov to interactive instead of smart ass .. this seems to help but at the cost of some battery life

3) TURN OFF SCREEN ON AND OFF ANIMATIONS!! (royalginger settings > display) .. you should turn these off anyway if you're having this issue because it looks like the issue is strongly and almost certainly tied directly to these

4) flash dumbfuqs kernel from here

one and/or a combination of these things should reduce or eliminate the issue

I can't imagine this rom getting any better. This is the most responsive rom I have ever used with this phone. I thought UD was fast..this is just rediculous! To top it off, its stable as fvck! Thank you for your hard work and time put into this. If I could hit the thanks button infinite times, I would :D

I am sure this must have been asked before many times but what's the best/easiest way to turn off the shutter sound when taking pictures?

Thanks for this great rom btw. It is super fast.
