I mean the su update. You said it works fine even on touchwiz, but the last few su updates have not worked for most people on touchwiz. It messes everything up.

I see why I confused you. I made it look like I was talking about updating touchwiz

Okay -- sorry. I see what your asking now.

I've always kept the SuperSU app updated from the Play store and when I did it almost always wanted to update the binaries. I don't have an exact recall of when it was updated, but it always seemed to update regularly - at least monthly I'd guess.

I never had any root problems running the stock rooted TW 4.4.2. The reason I switched to CM11 was purely bloat and general slow performance of the stock rom.

If it was any longer ago than the past month or two then that would explain why you hadn't experienced it yet.

And I never really faced that issue of slow stock. Even on the S5 feat with a 1.6gb installer.
I'm running cm now and there's only a small difference. Cm is more customizing and fun...but I end up missing all the functions and specials camera tuning pen stuff and keyboard....the s3 and note 2 ruined cyanogenmod for me

Well, I spent most of the day dinking around with my phone (rainy day), so I restored a nandroid from 8 days ago of my stock rooted TW NE2 ROM. Several apps updated from the Play store, including (much to my dread) SuperSU, and then SuperSU wanted to update the binaries (more dread), but to my shock and surprise everything is still running great, including root access. I actually tried to break it by using the in-app SuperSU option of uninstalling SuperSU (to switch to a different app), then reinstalled SuperSU, updated the binaries, and still no problems with losing root.

The TW ROM I'm currently running (and have been running) was, I believe, Rwilco12's stock MK4 and then I upgraded it with the MK4 to NE2 update and been running that ever since. So it has ALL the bloat in it, which I believe is why CM11 seems so much faster to me in comparison. I don't know if that explains why I've yet to be affected by this loss of root glitch that's happening to all our TW ROMs now or not, but I do know it's completely stock other than rooted and de-knoxed. I don't know if using a deodexed ROM ends up causing this or it's some other mod, but I don't seem to be encountering it on plain vanilla odex rooted NE2. I may just stick with this NE2, using Titanium Backup to clean up the bloat, and trying to tweak a few more custom features into it.

My latest CM11 experience has been great! Using NoteBuddy and the CM S-Pen add-on I was able to get back all of the S-pen functions that I typically use. I'm using Papyrus for an S-Note replacement and it honestly seems a little nicer, allowing for better organization of notes, as well as exporting the notes to PDF, jpeg, etc. I've also set NoteBuddy to automatically switch "keyboards" when I detach the S-Pen so it switches to handwriting recognition just like in TW. I have it switch to the MyScript Stylus Beta "keyboard" and the handwriting recognition actually seems more accurate than TW. I've always had a big problem with not having a dedicated number row across the top of any keyboard as well as arrow buttons (the TW Note 2 keyboard spoiled me, too!), but the Swiftkey keyboard offers that option now, and also includes a Swype-ish method of typing, so that works well for me, too. This time around with CM11 has been my best experience with CM to date, and I've been trying it since the days of CM7 on my HTC EVO4G but could never quite get it to the point that I could use it as my daily driver. I probably used the multi-window feature on my Note 2 about 1/2 dozen times, and most of those were to show other people the feature rather than actually using it. But you can even get that back in CM11 if you use Xposed and the various multi-windows/floating window add-ons. I use the heck out of multi-window on my Note 10.1 2014 tablet, but I've never used it much on the Note 2. Honestly, I don't even use the stylus much on the Note 2 compared to my tablet, but it's nice that the stylus works so well in CM11 now.

CM11 would be my daily driver ROM without reservation except the bluetooth isn't quite up to snuff. For whatever reason, Google has decided to mess with the bluetooth standards and it has all the automobile manufacturers royally ticked off because none of the newer Android phones (running Kitkat or newer) can fully connect to the bluetooth head units anymore. In my case, I get media and phone audio, but no text or email notifications, which I used to get with Kitkat TW ROM. Again, not incredible deal-killer for me, but it admittedly was kinda nice when driving down the road to have any incoming text message read to me, and I could even send canned replies back using voice commands, too. Oh, well. I may just have to get over mediocre bluetooth. We'll have to see how my trimming down with my NE2 TW goes.

Oh so you are one of the lucky. I'm still waiting for the one day of a true bridge of cm and touchwiz.

I hope this helps in the future.

I am running version 1.1.
I came from NE2 officially, bought it with it installed already.
I used Odin to flash Philz recovery, version 6.48???
I flashed 1.1 as my first ROM on the phone. I let it install what it wanted, just left it alone.
Sense auto update was enabled on most of my apps it updated a bunch of them on it's own, including SuperSU. I updated the binaries via normal, or what ever it calls it, not thought recovery.
I found the few apps it didn't install for me and went looking for another kernel, that's another conversation :)

I'm not sure it could be related to the different basebands, left over knox bits, or what. I'm mostly saying it isn't happening to me.

Something I have noticed with 1.1 and 1.2 and audio streaming Pandora one (using higher quality streaming )..

Scenario one, streaming in background with maps or GPS app in foreground no skipping / popping. ..

Scenario two, running Pandora in foreground with screen off popping and skipping happens pretty often. ..

I am going to try 1.3 and see if it happens in that one too. ..

Just tested on the way home. . Screen off and popping and stuttering from Pandora. .. I open naked browser in the foreground leaving the screen on and not one blip or stutter while streaming. ..

I do not use any power saving settings at all so that is not the cause of this from me setting them...
I haven't been able to log with the screen off but, I my thought is this is probably not buffer related...

I think this could be related to processor throttling from some power saving function from within the rom causing the stuttering when the screen is off. ...

Again I have not tested this theory with logging software or diagnostics...

With that said, either flame on or confirm. ... [emoji1]

Thank you for sharing your findings! I'm still not certain what it was that did it but I believe that it's caused by something in the base I used for 1.1 and 1.2. I just posted a new beta 1.3 yesterday that I believe corrects the issue. Check it out and let us know?

I'm runnning 1.3 now. I'm wondering, is the skipping just while playing streaming music, or should I be looking for skipping while playing from the SDcard?

Luckily not with these ones but I actually had that on a few ROMs just the stock music app. Increasing minimum CPU speed didn't even help.

I actually had to change the governor and scheduler to the more single task focused ones. Noop or deadline I think.

That make a lot of sense.
Noting that I didn't have any skips on my lunch break while listening to Pandora. I've always ran pegasusq for the governer and haven't looked at the I\O scheduler.

And while I have the floor
Has anyone been able to get the Note4 browser to install? I think it's because we're on 4.4.2 and the place where I downloaded it from said it needed 4.4.4 for full functionality.
I get a 'not enough memory' error. I'll probably go with the S5 browser as it looks the same and I know it a little.

Good to know, I was speculating on the processor throttling due to the stuttering happening with screen off..

Good news whatever was changed from 1.2 to 1.3 has fixed 99.99 percent of any stuttering while streaming higher quality music in Pandora....

Sweet! Of course when done walking or whatever I would have to switch it back because it wasn't as good for regular use and multi taking.

I generally use milk for that though. But I had not really used Pandora much before so I was not really accustomed to it..

Gonna try out 1.3. Any suggestions on getting the dual boot kernel working. I tried looking for the files JL suggested and making sure everything seemed right and tried 3 different versions and none would boot properly.
Just normal setup not dual setup.

I downloaded the Community ROM and stole it from there. I didn't look into the dual booting, but I would imagine it would be like it's listed on the kernel thread.

And sense we are on the subject. Does anybody know if there is an incompatibility with system tuner pro, or another app for that matter? I tried the community rom and my mix of RW1.1 with the kernel mixed in and it will always lock up. I always did a full clean and didn't even get to playing with the kernel setting much.

Sorry. The dual boot kernel was more an op question.
Most roms have to be set up and Knox free and in certain state for it to work.
Not sure about the tuner pro

You need to use the devil kernel app located in my post in the devil kernel thread (or community rom). Also make sure you
are using devil 3.0 (more stable) not 3.1.

I am guessing you are talking about the shift kernel. Not sure what version is posted but the newest ones support knox roms so it should work better. In a couple of days I will have I will try and see what is going on with the kernel/rom combo.

Yeah the shift kernel. The last version apparently didn't boot. Even op posted that. And I tried the last three versions even after checking the files you posted and I could not get it working on here version 1.1 of the rom. Or even classic priest which is the one you said you got working. Think I tried one other one.

If I feel froggy I'll reload the ROM with the kernel cooked in and not restore any apps.

Is the kernel in the community ROM 3.0 or 3.1. I'm sure which release I got, but I can look when I get home.

I think I baked in 3.1 in community. I don't remember if 3.0 is linked in OP.

    Rwilco12's Mostly Stock NE2

As many of you know, I've spent so long dealing with all these stock ROM's and never really branched out into the world of custom ROM's. I can never find a ROM that is 100% what I want. I find a lot that come close but never 100%. So I decided to branch out and try my hand at making my own custom ROM. I got what I wanted for my S5 and was then asked to port it over to the Note 2. That being said, this is my ROM. I made it for me. I'll take requests and do what I can but ultimately I'm building a ROM that is my daily ROM and does what I need it to the way I want it to. I'm sharing with everyone but I'm putting myself at your mercy to play nice. So without further ado...

I have completed the process of rebasing the ROM to incorporate pieces of both @jlmancuso and @Chaz187 base ROM's and have added a few new mods. I'm planning on taking some time off next week and hope to get it out then.

Is the Updater app the best way to check for releases?
    There and here. :)

I'll let you in on a secret though... It's gonna be posted tonight. :)
