Newer build?

Hello,

I've just successfully downloaded and installed this ROM. Works great!

Has anyone seen or built a JB4.2(CM10-1) ROM yet?

I've started playing with the build instructions on the OP without luck but haven't spent much effort yet. I always like to build my own ROM for my Android devices.

I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

Cheers.

Hey there, the rom in this thread is actually old. Strange Peer has been continuing development of CM10 here:

DADOES CM10 ROM for SGH-I757M

In regards to 4.2, I am currently working on that one with Strange Peer. I currently have the rom booting (however there is no boot animation), but when it loads the welcome screen after a fresh flash, it freezes and nothing can be pressed working on this part at the moment.

I've been doing some research in regards to this and have not yet figured it out, but I'm very determined to port 4.2 (CM10.1) to our beloved forgotten SGH-I757M. Any news of it's dvelopment will be posted to DADOES thread, so you can follow along there :) Welcome to our small family (SGH-I757M users)

What's the point of trying to get the latest and greatest... Why doesn't someone take the working excellent cm9 and tweak it... Customize it... At custom options etc.

Cause JB is still just JB

The cm9 as you say is solid. So those who like it will keep to it. And the developers who want to work on it will tweak it as they see fit.
But the updates for our phones are ment to make our phones run smoother and better. But being free to customize is why we switch to cmX. The developers choose to take the updates and bring them over to cm for us, and work to make it smooth for us again and "solid". Cm8 or 7(not to sure what was out as I've joined with the cm10 release) I am sure was very stable before as well. But then development for cm9 had come. Now it's cm10 and cm10.1 turn. Once a new version update comes out, we will try to update again, but ecentually there will be a point where updating will slow our phone down. The developers will constantly work until they see the phone has reached its max potential. My father has a Motorola atrix where the final update was gingerbread 2.6 or something like that. Cm7 was it's last official update. They related alphas and betas of cm9, and now betas of cm10, and in my opinion the phone runs better than on gingerbread, even though it wasn't ment for jb. The point is to get the most out of our phones.

I would not recommend flashing anything that does not exactly match your model number. I have not heard of that variant.

Are you sure that is your model? I can't find anything about this model at all.

To double check, open settings and click on about phone. It should list your exact model number. Is it actually SGH-I857M?

You should still be able to root the phone, although I'm not sure if that affects your unlocking the phone. I don't think it does though.

Just follow the instructions at the recovery thread to get cwm flashed so you can flash a custom Rom.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1707126

Unrooting is the process of removing the Superuser.apk and su binary, so yes, it's very easy to unroot. Chainfire's SuperSu also has a one click function to remove root.

You need to read the instructions in the link I provided. It tells you that you need to access download mode by pressing volume down+ power until the phone vibrates and displays a warning message. Then you press volume up to get into download mode.

Once there you can flash cwm with Odin as described in the OP of the link I posted.

You can't flash those things in stock recovery. Like I said, you need download mode. If you can't access download mode, nothing is possible as the device is locked from the stock recovery.

Turn your phone completely off. Then pull out the battery. Then carefully put it back in without hitting the power button. Then first press and hold your volume down button and while holding volume down puss and hold your power button as well. Keep holding both buttons until the phone vibrates and you see a warning screen with a message telling you to press volume up to access download mode.

Opening post has the info you need. ;)

You gotta read up, study, learn and understand what you are doing......or it'll be that much more likely you'll wind up with a bricked phone someday.

Also another thing is that the system reboots itself spontaneously sometimes:
1. After uninstalling apps
2. When phone RAM too high
if you guys could make a update for cyanogenmod 10 for the SGH-i757m that would be great.

We are no longer working on cm10. You can look for dadoes ROM which is the latest cm10 available and does not suffer from random reboots. Kit Kat is also supposed to lunch at the end of the month and I plan on building that for the SGH-I757M as well ;) now we'll have choice of cm10/cm10.2 or kit Kat :)

Here's the link for dadoes ROM:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175777

Here's the link for my release of SlimBean (based on cm10 but slimmed down):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418590

You'll be used to dadoes ROM as it's mostly stock cm10, but SlimBean has its benefits as well.

EDIT:

In both Roms mentioned, vm notifications do not work and YouTube overlays still require hw overlays to be disabled at each boot. In my latest cm10.2, both of these are no longer issues, however, it does suffer from other bugs. Read the OP's and take your pick ;)
