@davidmueller13
Clean install with pico gapps and Magisk went well.
First boot :good:
Thanks again for working for our device.
Same here. First time bootlooped but another clean install fixed the issue.

BTW, after the installation the device is not encrypted. When I encrypt the device after setting it up I get errors from almost all Gapps. Any solution for this?

Hi there I was wondering if I could use this for p605k...if not can anyone tell me the reason
p605k = SM-P605K(orea) variant.

This ROM should install if it is a "lt03lte" or "lt03ltexx" device.
You can check it from a Terminal (eg., TWRP -> Advanced) window by typing/executing this line:
Code:
getprop ro.product.device
or
Code:
getprop ro.build.product

great OS! / LTE works now / problems with Magisk EdXposed Framework + Android Webview

Hi David!

I've been testing heavily for the last 3 days and the OS is running very smooth. The fixed LTE permissions helped with internet access :) The tablet is as fast as my 2 year old phone, maybe even faster. And I can finally use my passwort manager with android autofill functionality. S-pen works with LectureNotes and Squid. In two days I got the same amount of screen freezes.

Some apps seem to have trouble to invoke permission to access storage, they tell you to manually allow storage access and open the corresponding setting page. But there is no entry for storage access (for example com.ea.gp.fifamobile). Or they don't ask and can't write to sdcard. I think the error is in the apps itself. All "proper programmed" apps work, at least when storage access independent of manifest is set in the development section in settings. No reason to fix this, but the reason I tried the following to get XInternalSD working:

Something related to Magisk and the EdXposed Framework (not for you to fix):
After root with magisk and riru core module installation everything works fine.
After installation of EdXposed Module (YAHFA or Sandhook, only alpha versions 0.4.2.3 at the moment possible) Android Webview is not working any more. I got back part of the functionality by installing the newest Google Android Webview. For me, I wait for updates to the EdXposed Framework.

So:
Apart from missing camera and hotspot functionality I consider the tablet to be fit as a daily driver. Thanks for keeping the tablet alive:good:

For those who need EdXposed Framework here are more details:
After installation of Google Android Webview (75.0.3770.67, older versions 72 - 74 didn't work) the following apps are working:

fdroid, yalp, octodroid

with nova launcher I had to open nova settings and change the tab view to classic and back to material to make the top right menu in the app drawer readable.

To be able to use the recent app list I had to wipe davlik / cache in recovery.

Still not working (most annoying and the reason I abandoned EdXposed for the moment):
FOSS Browser (even newest version 6.4)
via browser (this app even says something is wrong with Android webview)

Google chrome has no problems :)

@tusch00101 the webview thing I find peculiar for it isn't installed on mine and Fdroid and FOSS work with no problem.
Didn't have the problem with nova launcher either.
No freezes at all.

webview is part of lineageOS

The webview app is - my guess - necessary for displaying webpages within apps. From former "experiences" deleting this app on clean systems I know that those other apps don't work. This is true for at least Via and FOSS Browser and I think also Fdroid (not 100 % sure). Via browser even tells me there is a problem with webview and therefore it can't display any pages.

The nova launcher did its job, just the top right menu in the app drawer was empty (or white on white?). When I deinstalled the EdXposed framework and deinstalled the added Android (Google) webview everything worked fine.

As far as I know a form of Webview app comes with lineageOs though I don't think it's from google (in /system/app/webview/, there is even in settings an option to choose, if there is more than one webview app). I don't know much about these things, I'm not a developper. Just at the moment I was reading through the pages of OpenGApps project. There they said something about patching the system for making opengapps work in Nougat+ with arm processors (for the OS developer) and there was also mentioned that there are now different webview apps because OpenGapps needs(?) to replace original google functionality. So there might be an issue. Sadly I haven't fully understood it and there is no way I can make any patches anywhere in the OS. Far from it. So lineageOS webview works as long as I'm not reckless and try to do things like installing EdXposed framework.

And the only reason for trying all these thing: I want to give one of my SM-P605 tablets to my 10-year-old nephew as a birthday present. The one with a not-working bluetooth / wifi IC. So he can't have internet access without a sim card. Unfortunately his favorite FIFA app can't write to storage and doesn't trigger the permission dialogue. So no app start. I had hoped that I could use XInternalSD Module with XPosed framework to access any sdcard. I guess I have to find another way.

Otherwise the tablet is great :)

Thanks anyway.

Flash a Nougat ROM with Xposed (not edXposed). I'd recommend Resurrection Remix Nougat 5.8.5 - stable as can be and everything works. Research first (=read the thread(s)).

Hey Guys,
Installed the ROM yesterday and am loving it... Was wondering if any of you are experiencing similar issues to me with the s pen... No matter what notes app I used, when I am writing I cannot have my hand on the display or the text instantly disappears...
Would appreciate anybody who knows a solution to this problem
Regards
Jonathan

As you mentioned your problem I just realized that I have also seen something weird with the S-Pen. Although I haven't used it a lot:

I was testing handwritten text in LectureNotes. When I was writing very fast often the last movement / circle / line / part of word with one stroke (whatever the English word for it is) dissapeared right after it was shown on the display. Only when I repeated that stroke again more slowly it would stay on the screen. Sometimes I had to repeat the input several times to finish the word.

I can rule out that it was my palm causing it because in the LectureNotes app you can reject the hand movement while writing with an active stylus. I tried not to touch the stylus button although the faulty behaviour looked like I was hitting an "erase the last input" or "undo" button.

But this behaviour could also be a problem in the app.

Does that sound like your problem?

Hi Patricia

Can you please let me know how did you fix the LTE issue?
his is the only thing I still need to take full advantage of this ROM.

Thanks a lot.
Fernando.

Upgraded to the latest version. Works pretty good but one thing is odd. The battery drain is huge. I watched a YouTube video with good WiFi signal and the battery went from 65% to 18% in a few minutes.

Tablet was restarted right before watching.

Anyone knows what could cause this issue?

maybe use newpipe instead of youtube app?

I don't know the reason but newpipe app doesn't have the problem. I suggest you use this app until you find a solution to the battery drain.

You can get the app on fdroid or - better - on github.com (here with automatic updates in case YT changes code - search for TeamNewPipe). Not in PlayStore - only fakes there.

The app only parses the YT-website and does nothing more. So as long as you don't want to login for writing comments a great and small app, for login you can open the browser with 2 taps from a video. And you can download videos (maybe not legal for google).

edit: my tablet - the one with working wifi and lte - lasted for hours with a lot of apps installed and my nephew was watching YT videos quite a long time yesterday with this app. But I don't have gapps on it, only microG and a restrictive firewall. I think that helps tremendous to save battery.

camera not working because of missing permissions?

So, finally a new build for Pie.

Unfortunately still no working camera.
I spent many hours finding the issue, but no success.
I dont' find anything usefull in the log in the middle of the usual camera blob spam.
Oddly enough on SM-P905 (Note Pro 12.2) the camera works while the camera blobs are identical (practical also the rest of camera related stuff).
Hi David!
I'm pretty sure you spend days not hours on this. Just in case you haven't checked the permissions:

I was playing around with Briar app to see how it works. For adding contacts with other devices it needs to authorize these e.g. with a qr code. Although I gave the app all the permissions in settings I got the message that the camera access is still forbidden.
I don't know if you get that always with errors or if it hints to the reason why the camera is not working. (All other camera apps freeze without a message). I just append screenshots. I think German is not a problem for you :)

Maybe it helps finding the reason for the camera not working. If not - just ignore this post.

LTE issues

David thanks for amazing continued support on our favorite tablet. I've been on your lineage 14.1 without any issues. Out of curiosity I tried the latest 04.06 build, but it seems to have still have the LTE issue. My tablet in SM607T (US tmobile variant) that is connecting to Tmobile towers. I tried the following with no luck
1) wipe all, install Rom, install Magisk
2) wipe all, install Rom
3) after install reset network and manually set APN

It seems like there is always X by the Celluar bars when it is not connected to Wifi. Is there any logs I can provide to see if it's the same permission issues? I tried looking at logcat but there is a lot of stuff, is there a filter I can use?

Thanks!

@temijun
When I had that issue I used the logcat extreme app (scd.lcex) to record the error messages for my post. I opened a floating window, turned off Wifi and LTE and started recording. Then I turned on lte and opened androids browser which tries to connect to google. Immediately afterwards I turned off recording. The file is saved on the internal sdcard in the logcatX folder (or similiarly named). If necessary the recording can be restricted to error messages of one app. I desided against it because I didn't know where the problem was. If the file is too big and contains too many unneccessary messages you can always delete some lines for posting.
I don't know if David used this to fix the LTE in my case but the file said somewhere something about missing permissions.

I hope that helps you too.

edit just checking: have you turned off any firewall and dns-over-tls in settings-network-advanced-private DNS? Because you see the same behaviour if port 53 is blocked and DNS service is not working. In Germany T mobile is a bit special with their DNS servers. There are reports that people have issues when they try to change DNS servers. You can check by opening the terminal (after activating in developer section in settings). Ping an ip address.
Better - if you have access to a sim from a different provider you might want to test lte with that first.

Thanks for the helpful tips. I turned off private DNS, but its still the same. I was able to capture the logcat maybe some more selinux issue.
